Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendo lost momentum
« on: September 14, 2006, 05:38:50 PM »
... Look more in to it.

$200 would have been nice... but with the Nunchuk and wii-sport it is worth the $250 price, even more if it brings the component cables...

And consider the technology in the controler and the fact that the machine itself is more powerfull than the cube...

Besides... there is more than a month to pick up momentum...

... So you think that making the CPU more eficient and yet more powerfull than the Cube's CPU is cheap...

Or the graphic card... Or the remote and its sensor... or the self loading drive bay... What about the plastic? I read they are using a cuality plastic...

And the game... thrue, it could go for $40 by itself...

... Besides, they are not making a huge profit... most likely $10 per console... or even less... but a profit none the less...

So... they make profit... maybe this should have been directed to share holders and investors alone, to avoid people from complaining about them making a profit...

Lame... weak...

... And... I remember that the N64 costed $250 when it realesed! It was that price for a short time since, short time... Then it was $200. They made a profit...

The GameCube was lossing like $7 for a few months... then it made a profit shortly after...

... for the GameCube to play 4 player games with Wavebird is about $160 (asumming the price of $40 each)... $120 asumming the GC came with one.

For the 360 it is four wireless players starts at $200 ($50 dollars each)... or $150 asuming you got the $399.99 360...

... and the Wii... Well... like Kairon said, $180... for 3 sets of controllers ($60 the set)...

Now... remember, multiplayer games start at two players! The diference is of $10, for a more advance controller... And, not all games will use it... so it could be $10 less than the 360 for a mutiplayer game...

The games will make it worth every penny...

Also, like Kairon said, wonder about the PS3 controllers... they could come close to $60.

At the end of all, wii wiin!

Well... you know, the console will come with the Wii-mote and the Nunchuk... I think that developers will have no problem at all considering that set-up since every console owner will have at least one Nunchuk. Besides... a good deal of Virtual Console games will need the classic controller. If it sell for $20... or $25 considering it has 2 analogs, for the completeness of old games, thats an extra expence that I will take without complain. I don't see this as much of a problem.

If atachments stay bellow the $30 dollar mark, preferably $25 or less, it won't be all that bad since it will mostly make the game experience a complete experience... And the atachments will work with a good deal of game types... you won't need to worry soo much... And, think about third party hardware manufactures! They will make a killling by selling replicas of old controllers, many will wecome those!

Now... I think we will se a $199.99 price for the Wii in 6 months time... no game included! Hopefully it will (should) include the Nunchuk atachment... if not then developers might have to focuse on wii-mote or asume the player is willing to get the nunchuk if the game needs it... I don't see this as a problem though since  Nunchuk will cost so little by itself...

I do agree that a $50 combo of wii-mote and nunchuk would be nice... but there is loots of tech and the Nintendo quality behind each accesory that justifies the price...

hudsonhawk, I think that the 2GB SD card is not nesesary... But as you see, the 360 wireless adapter is pricy...

It is hard to compare... untill we get to experience the games.

I feel that the Wiimote might end up at $30-35 by next year... The nunchuk? Well... it has an analog stick and acelero... thingies?!?! ... and a wire... short wire. Now that I think of it... The Wii-mote has many things in it, acelerometers, rumble, speaker, pointer... wireless... If you take all that in consideration, I makes the Wii-mote and Nunchuk conbination a well price... Compare to what the others have, last gen controllers but wireless... and in one of them, acelerometers (thingies) and no rumble...

I nead to reasearch a bit more to make a better statement on all three...

The price game!

Nintendo Gaming / Wii compare!

Now that we know the price, I wanted to make a thread that focuses on the prices among the next-gen consoles. Just for kicks... ... If anyone can find more details about the other systems, mainly PS3, add the info (copy and paste this list and add the info). Forget the technical spec mumbo jumbo.

Wii $249.99

- Wii Console
- One wireless Wii Remote controller ($39.99)
- One Nunchuk™ controller ($19.99)
- Wii Sports
- vertical stand
- HD AV cable (included?)
- WiFi support

360 $299.99

- XBOX 360 console
- wired controller ($39.99)
- standard AV cable
- white faceplate
- Live Silver Service

360 $399.99

- XBOX 360 console
- 20 GB Hard drive
- wireless controller ($49.99)
- HD AV cable
- ethernet network cable
- wired XBOX Live headset
- white faceplate
- Live Silver service

PS3 $499.99

- 20 GB Hard drive
- Controller

PS3 $599.99

- 60 GB Hard drive
- WiFi support
- Controller

Now... Am missing lots of details on the PS3 but am sure some will clarafy that info.

For the important part of this thread, price comparations... What does the price includes?

The Wii controller cost $40 same as the wired controller for the 360. The wireless 360 controller is $50... Of cource that will be compared against the Wii controller in conbination with the $20 Nunchuk... Now, one interesting bit we don't know yet, the other atachments? Will they be in the $20 range?

Games will be on the $50... for the Wii. I wonder if third party games will be the same, but I think not... This leaves game prices simillar to the 360. Sony on the other hand will most likely be at $60 minimum. That make me wonder about profit margin on games for the PS3 will be. Am sure third parties, the small ones atleast, will have a hard time... Hopefully they will see the Wii as a viable platform. I read that Microsoft take a big chunk on royalties from each game so maybe the profit marging on the 360 (per game) is not as high as with the last generation. Again the Wii is said to cost the least to develop for and as such the games should make a hiegher profit marging than the 360... All of this from a developer's point of view, not the customer/gamer's point of view...

All am trying to start in this thread is the economical aspect of each console for the developers and the gamers...

What do you make of my cheap analissy of a post?

Edit: I type sllowww... Now I see a post were I could have posted this... oh well... lets see what will happen with this.

There will also be original games offered true the download service...

Imagine if they come and realeas games that were canceled at one point or another, sequels that never made it to retail... ideas that weren't put in to action but were already develop in an early stage...

Sequels like those could become extremly desireble! I would bet that many would be all over them... even if only for nostagia...

And consider that there is a market for old games as well a s new ones... people like me might be interested by old and new alike... there are some that could care less for the new consoles and their new games but would love to regain their old favorites... and there will be people that hate the past and just want, what they think, is new... There will be no problem because of the old games... there will be loots to chose thats for shure... and I will have my hands full...

Hope I manage to get the Revolution soon after its realease or on day one...

it seems we will be on the look out for fun games we had little chance at playing in the past...

At least I had a few Nintendo Power magazines to keep me bussy, dreaming of becoming a game developer... lets see if I ever make it...

In the mean time I will try to catch up with the rest...

NES games should be a $1 or $2. SNES would warrant $4-$5 pricewise. N64 $8-$10.

About the whole graphics thing. It'll obviously look better than GameCube, it WILL look better than Xbox. The specs don't blow me away but the end result will be just about what was expected. Really good-looking SD games. Not much more power is necessary on an SD platform anymore. My concern is more about Nintendo's art style with many of their characters -- The low-resolution, low-polygon characters just don't impress or push the limits. But the hardware itself can push poly's fine.

NO it is not SD (Standart Definition, 480i)... The Revolution WILL display at ED (Enhance Definition, 480p)... Unless all you have is an SDTV, but considering the cost of an EDTV set, upgrading to one would be far easier and apropiate for the next few years untill HDTV standarices itself and becomes more afortable... By then Nintendo will be releasing their NEXT system...

The diference is noticeble betwing SD and ED... Thoug EDTV can display an HD signal...

Besides... EDTV can LOOK just as nice as HDTV in some cases:

Quote

Theoretically, higher resolution plasma TVs should always look better with an HD signal, but with video picture signals - signal processing, interpolation, conversion and contrast(i.e., how an image is displayed) has more to do with picture quality than resolution does.

Case In Point: At past Consumer Electronics Shows (2001 and 2002), manufacturers would stage "plasma shoot outs", often pitting earlier-generation HD sets against ED ones. The outcome? A Panasonic 853X480 plasma beat several other manufacturers with higher resolutions (1024X768 or 1024X1024) even with an HD signal displayed. Contrast, video processing, and conversion have much to do with plasma technology.

Besides... HD is, in my opinion, not yet standart for me to fork out big bucks for a set that will display less than half of the bradcast... and with so many variant high resolutions things get confusive for the costumer... And Then there are this facts to consider:
Quote

   (1) DVD material may look better on an a good brand of EDTV 853 X 480 than it would on a third tier brand in a 1024X768 resolution. At DVD quality resolution, the image output quality depends more upon the manufacturer than it does the resolution.

   (2) 80% of the content available to viewers -- whether on TV or on DVD -- is NOT high definition. However, this story is changing.

   (3) If deliberating between a 1st tier EDTV resolution plasma purchase compared with a 1st tier HDTV plasma resolution purchase, consider that you will likely get around a 20% bump in picture quality with the HD unit when watching a good incoming HD signal. An EDTV plasma can display and HD signal, but only at its native pixel resolution after down conversion.

   (4) The manufacturer quality should be of more concern than the resolution of the plasma display. Purchasing a plasma from a quality manufacturer can make the biggest difference of all. I would rather have an EDTV 853X480 plasma TV from Sony, Panasonic or Pioneer than an 1024X768 HDTV plasma from lesser Taiwanese, or Korean manufacturers even for the same cost.

I will buy it... and and EDTV when I get the chance...

What I want to know about are the games themselves... But I won't let pas the oportunity to play past consoles games... and talk about systems when there will be Sega's and even posibly other consoles... I know Nintendo won't desapoint...

And... ports can/are a doble edge suord, even for the other consoles... I don't want ports of games that are crapy from the start on its debuting console... ...and I think some know waht I mean...

Why is it that everybody (or to many) think that the Revolution will not have nice graphics... It will be much, much better than the GC...

And saying that thats a selling point for those of you who have those fears would seem to imply that you won't buy the Nintendo DS because the PSP has better graphics! ... It seems many miss the point...

It is true that we need to see something soon so that those in fear have a better judgement... thoug an unfair one since we won't play the games untill they are realeased... Will have to draw from what others say... and so far what has been said is positive... Forget about the supose power, think DS vs PSP...

I will buy it as soon as I get the money...

The games should/will be gread (Nintendo will lead the way, like they do ofthen)... what we have to worry is os lazzy/lame programes/produsers that pomp out garbage with increadible ease...

Nintendo Gaming / RE: No original Rare games on the Virtual Console?
« on: March 30, 2006, 01:40:31 PM »
Rare...

They rarely delivered on time...

Their games rare... Freking few, and rather hard at times (battletoads, Or golden eye's inposible invincible mode) or the OVERDONE item colectiveness of Banjo Kazzuy or DK64... or the cheap loses in RC ProAM ... the Dloble runs (returning to the same parts to collect something of some thing again) more (GFG) ... or ... bad cheazy commedy (I did not find Conkers'BFD fun, in no way fun...) ...

Actually what did they had, Golden Eye... PD... and Killer Instink ... Blast Corps... RCpro AM was cool but I HATE those cheap loses where the other cars would run 3 laps in 3 seconds!...Diddy Congs Racing was fun untill half way true the game (dodle run, @#$@#$# coins, and $#@%%% $#$#$%%$ hard boss, moust anoying gaming moment besides Banjo and DK) Starfox Adventures was BLA... oh look *furry buts and tails* ...bland...

I won't miss them much... It took them ages to realease a game, look how they are on the XuxsBox and XuxBox Flush... How many Games will they manage this generation? 4... Yup PD0.5 will come out 2009... and Conkers Hurd Hours Cantina 2020...

And their past offering for Nintendo consoles have been few and far ... even if good games they where few... and Nintendo still holds some of the IP... maybe not much but if they want they can realease from those IP's they (Nintendo) still owns...

Rare is no big deal in a way... Shure it would be nice... but not terific etcep for a few games...

Nintendo Gaming / RE: IGN Leaks Some Rev Specs Again! 3/29/06
« on: March 30, 2006, 10:19:14 AM »
I for one, will buy the Revolution... If I have the money by day one, I will buy it right away!

............................................................

I have notice that all to many are still refering to SDTV instead of EDTV in many comments about the Revolution's power... Progresive 480 resolution is EDTV... Enhance Definition TV. There are a bunch of Digital TV sets that display EDTV and not HDTV... But to many are been fooled by the HighDef... and many think that Digital TV sets are the same as HDTV sets, but they are actualy EDTV...

With that said... What the heck... I am economicaly BROKE... econnommy is bad... it will take me more than 3 years to improve my status... because of various reasons... So am happy I won't miss good gaming because I can't buy that HDTV someone thinks I need... The news lady looks good wile showing the weather on my TV set... will HDTV let me get real with her... NO... so my SDTV is good and if I manage I will get a better TV, one that outputs 480p (EDTV) and a Revolution...

This specs are much better than the GAMECUBE's ... so we will have better than the GC games... it is not like if the SNES had horib games because the GENESIS had higher clock speed...

Actually... if specs were so important, computergames would rule... But... wheres that industry? It is not dead, but it is not growing as much as the PC market itself... and in most part because those who are exclusive to PC gaming and puch graphics tend to just push graphics... And... most of the Gaming PC hardware gets somewhat wasted... no one of them PC game makers have gotten the juce out of the last graphic card... always jumping to the next big thin... Thoug consoles are diferent I feel games are meant to be played... and if a good gaming experience comes in blak and white then be it, do I care for the most realistic crapfest with bland substance, NO...

Even I, as a developer wanabe, have been pondering my ideas... as long as the gameplay is involving, graphics are secondary... even a text adventure would be enyoiable... And I tell you, no one can make better graphics than an Interactive Fiction (text adventure)... NO ONE...

Power Me Silly! Bring on the GAMES!

How about:

NRES, Nintendo Revolution Entretaintment System... Or simply RES... Revolution Entretaintment System

They could just name it NES 2...

GameBrick... along the lines of GameCube... (nahhh)

Nintendo Rebellion...

Nintendo iMoron (why not... !!??!?!?... ummm)

iNintendo (errr... ok, to much apple similarities, not good)

Nintendo Genesis (it sounds sorth of nice...)

Pretendo (old joke from GamePro)

Nitendo (man I hated when people said Nitendo instead of Nintendo.)

Nintendo Jaguar (*runs for cover... "please don't shoot, I am joking about that name!")

Nintendo Ian (there "Ian Sane" would be proud... and we would be doomed... )

Nintendo Bloodworth (there thats mature enought... and better than the ubove one)

NN... Nintendo Nintendo (like Mario Mario)...

Nintendo Pipin (*ahhhh... no... why are all of you with bats... this ain't no baseball game!...)

Nintendo XXX (now... thats mature.... 3 X's are neat... its like 1x2x3x... multiply baby... errr....)

NES-SNES-N64-Cube (try say that 10 times fast... ok lame)

Nintendo Linux (... ok... I need to stop... that makes no sence)

Nintendo Millenium (that sounds just as devilish as the Millenium series...)

Nintendo Magic.......... (nahhh...)

NN.... Nintendo Nuclear (look, the wepons of mass destroction...)

GameTriangle (they just need to cut it diagonal....)

Nintendo Nitro.... Nitrogen... ...... Nintendo Mushrom

Mintendo (from that video...)

Jade.... (for all those jaded players out there)...

...ummm am tired now.... need sleep.... have fun!

20
me  to, me to...!!!

err....

About the need of them publishers needing to go multy platform, I think your analisies are a bit wrong. You see, some of the reasons why there were few ports to the cube were because of them focusing on the platform(s) that would (idealy) get the most sales in... and them redusing the develpment to one or two consoles...

Now... I think it that even more than before there will be some resiliant to do that many multyplatform games, etcept from the big guns. This mostly because the consoles this time around will have more diferences in their architectures (CPU's) which will need more time with each individual console... so there will be some that will think it 2 times before commiting a proyect to several platforms...

Atleast, in a good way, the Revolution is (should be) simple to program for, and cheaper to them developers/publishers. The 360 is said to be somewhat easy to develop for but still the amount of money requaried for big teams will still give the Revolution the advantage. The PS3... will prove to be the "N64 or Saturn" of this era in some respect, producing games for it could prove to finacial gambles to small developers... thoug it might just be a tad more dificult (seven core nigthmare) than the 360 (2 core) to program for, it chould be a chalange...

With that said, I think that saying that "namco and banday" must stay/go multyplatform is somewhat wrong in the sence that it could be the other way around since they need to generate profit... they should focuse on one console or focuse specific proyects to one console instead of utilizing their resorces on all console with most of their proyects at the same time (proyects time frame)...

In a way, multiplatform proyects will not be the most used strategy this time around! There's to much money needed this time... I think there will be loots more mergers, buyouts... and dead development houses thant in the previous generation...

...........................

And... it would be nice if Nintendo could influence "Banco" (bandai-namco) to make a few more games to Nintendo's platforms... that should be as far as they would need to do... influence them.

It would be a thing of, "if it is posible they will do it" kind of thing...

I wonder...

Will there be a redesing of the GameCube.... imagine if they made it front loading like the rev, but of course it should end up a bit smaller than the rev in some ways... maybe not as thin but its with should be smaller... and its legth... only a bit taller (compared to the Revolution) to place the controler ports at the front...

Ummm.... mokup frenzy, lets try and redesing the cube... for fun.

asides from that.... I wonder if the Revolution will get smaller than its curent (proposed) size... the DVD would limit its reduction... but if they forego the controler ports it would allow for an small reduction in size I guess.... still it would be a bit hard to visualize, but posible...

mokup frenzyyy....
