Story Post

My concept for the story this time around would be that the Space Pirates have discovered a planet R-J6TY with an unusual crystalline structure that seems to have created holes in the fabric of space and time allowing them to jump to various points of the Metroid timeline. Through one of these holes, they were able to encounter a Metroid on SR-388 before Samus's annihilation of the species there and bring it back. They were now experimenting with the Metroid and Crystal structure to see if they can manipulate it to their own ends in conquering the galaxy. (I'd like to have done this in the style of a Pirate Log or Lore post ala the Metroid Prime series. Like a Space Pirate report to High Command on the operation and how it is coming along.)

However, this Pirate report was intercepted by the Federation who ordered a team to go out and terminate the Space Pirate base and plan before it was too late. However, within the Federation Forces, a colonel was able to handpick the team of his choosing to send on the mission with orders unknown to other Federation Forces and leaders to not only take down the Pirates but also capture the Metroid and bring it back. The squad suits up with a lot of "ok"s back and forth between them.

Meanwhile, Anthony from Other M who's still in the Federation military learns about the intercepted Pirate logs and passes the info on to Samus. She races off to the planet to ensure the Metroid is kept out of the hands of both the Space Pirates and Federation.

Announcement Post

Hey all. Thanks for being patient with me in launching this game. Finally found our 16th player to get this game going. However, despite wanting to get this game launched right now, it is getting late for me and I have quite a bit of typing ahead of me. So, I'm going to try my best to get that done tomorrow morning and have this game started around 2:00 PM EST. Maybe even sooner if all goes well. At this point, I don't think another few hours will make much difference, right?  :-\

Make sure to check in tomorrow as roles will be handed out in the morning as well and the rules and abilities will be fleshed out then also. For now, I need to get my beauty sleep.  ;)

I might as well open up the Day 1 thread since the players have now been informed of their roles. The Day 1 thread will last until Wednesday March 25 10:00 PM EST or if a majority vote has been reached before then.

There are currently 18 players in the game so a majority vote of 10 would be required to end the day early.

I am double-checking my work on the rules and roles thread. One tweak I've been on the fence all day about yesterday and today is going to affect the Federation Mafia. I've run through some scenarios and have decided it can still keep things fair. That tweak you will see under the role of The Deleter aka Godfather. I'll mention there when it is posted.

Again, thank you so much for-ta playing my game.

Thank youse fer comin' to da official Space Pirate employee meeting. Foist oider of buiisness. Folks 'ave been complainin' dat my joisy accent is makin me hahd to undestand. Those same folks 'ave been sent to the sun via an airlock. Now dat you've been wahned, anyone else with complaints about my accent will be punished fah mo' hashly.

Now on to da main topic of tonight's Space Pirate meeting. Apparently dose jokahs at the galactic federation have been mistaking these creatures fer yours truly and have been puttin' out bountys for folks to kill dem.

I mean loohk at dat hideous thing. It looks nothing like me. I am clearly far better lookin' dan dat faker.

Back on topic, supposedly dere's a whole planet with deese creatures running around, and what moah? dere's a bunch of folks called "Monster Hunters" who go around capturing or killing creatures like dat for a livin'. I'm about to swing on ovah dere and I'm gonna put a bounty for dem to capture as many of dese creatures as possible and den we'll just load dem up on a cargo freightah and send dem to Federation HQ. Dat's suire to freak dem all out and we can all just sit back and enjoy some popcohn.

And one lahst thing befoh we leave. Stop feeding da Metroids if yer not an authorized membuh of da metroid feeding crew. Getting yer head sucked off by a Chozo Bioweapon is not covahd by yer Health Insurance and Ahm not payin' fer yer medical bills eitha so don't even think 'bout it.

(I'm going to break character for a moment to explain the current situation.

As I alluded to, I am the townie who has the metroid item. I have chosen to divulge this reason for two reasons, firstly, in order to possibly form a townie alliance down the line, but secondly, and more importantly, in order to acquire the doctor's protection so that one of the Samus players can't randomly kill me off and acquire the metroid.

Voting me out now is a terrible idea for everyone involved.

If I am voted out than the metroid will be randomly reassigned to another player which may include either the Samus or Dark Samus roles which this early on would prematurely end the game unless you get really lucky with tomorrow's vote, since them acquiring the metroid would trigger one of their win conditions.

For a townie the reason to keep me alive is pretty simple. Much like the last game, I am in a situation where I can serve as the public face for a possible townie alliance, relaying information from the detective and possibly allowing some degree of coordination between the detective and the vigilante.

For the mafia, the reason to not vote me out is pretty easy as well. You know I have the Metroid, and you cannot win without getting the metroid so keeping me alive for now means that whenever you decide to kill me off, the Metroid will be more likely to fall into your hands since the playerbase will have dwindled.

Right now there are 18 players in the game. 4 of them are mafia. If I am voted out now than there is less than a 1 in 4 chance that the metroid will fall into your hands. (there is also around a 1 in 8 chance that one of the Samuses will get the metroid which would be really bad.) Should the metroid fall into the hands of another townie which is the most likely scenario, that townie will likely choose not to divulge that they have the metroid since the last guy who did that got voted out so you'll just be back to not knowing where the metroid is.

For Samus or Dark Samus like with the Mafia, you know I have the Metroid. Voting me out will almost certainly cause the Metroid to fall into the hands of another player who you don't know the identity of and thus send you searching for a needle in a haystack.

As long as the doctor is alive, the Metroid will be safely in my hands. Anyone who has any interest in winning this thing is stuck with me.)

Just reading over the rules and roles it says whoever voted out the player with the Metroid would have a chance at getting the Metroid so as things stand now. Insanolord, ShyGuy or ejamer would have a chance of getting the Metroid if pokepal does have the Metroid.

I read further in the thread and it also said that if the Godfather gets it via hit or vote out chance then they can chose to guard it or have one of their federation forces guard it but that player won't be able to go on recon.
So a few questions come to mind.

Does the Godfather actually have to be one of the players that votes out the Metroid player to be able to have a chance at getting the Metroid?   Can the Deleter(Godfather) sit back and have one of their goons vote out the Metroid player for a chance at the Metroid and bring it back with them to the Federation side but that goon who got it has to keep it till they die?

How does that work for these questions Khushrenada?

Can the Deleter(Godfather) sit back and have one of their goons vote out the Metroid player for a chance at the Metroid and bring it back with them to the Federation side but that goon who got it has to keep it till they die?

Yes to both. Let's say the Federation Trooper was among one of the people to vote for the player who had the Metroid and he won the "Metroid lottery" of having it fall in his hands. Then he is automatically assigned to guard it. The Godfather can not choose to reassign it after even if he was also one of the players who helped vote out the Metroid player. It is only if the Godfather won the Metroid lottery by voting for the player with it or acquired it from his hit that the Deleter would have the choice to keep or assign it to a part of the squad.

The way I picture or envision this scenario is like an action scene. The Space Pirates, Federation and possible Samus are all firing at each other and diving for cover in this firefight. The Space Pirate with the Metroid is trying to move on to safety with the Space Pirates but this Pirate gets hit by a laser blast and croaks. As the Pirate's body hits the ground, the Metroid in its glass holding container rolls from the lifeless body into the middle of the battlefield. It is there for the taking to which ever person in the firefight gets the opportunity. That opportunity is determined at random via the host but whoever it is snatches the Metroid from the battlefield and retreats back and the firefight ends as all withdraw to replan their next offensive.

So it is very possible that one or more mafia members could go after the Metroid in an attempt to claim the Metroid because the odds could be in their favor of obtaining it. I wonder if Samus/Dark Samus risk this sort of thing as well and end the game early? So I am pondering my vote now with this new information.

There is one other possiblity and it would be very clever.   pokepal is Samus/Dark Samus and hasn't been searched yet to confirm he is a normal townie or if he has the results show that voting him out is the best option so I am kinda conflicted. Today is Samus kill day and if pokepal is Samus then the kill won't go through. Day 2 is Dark Samus kill day so if voted out today then he wouldn't be able to kill anyone tomorrow.   Can someone confirm that he has been searched at this point?   I would feel stonger in voting one way over another if I knew the status of pokepal and if he is a townie or not.

After some thought I think I am going to vote for ShyGuy to tie things up for now.   unVote ShyGuy

Give players some options to vote for and to show up and vote.

I haven't heard one way or another on pokepal's status if it is townie or not but if I hear one way or another then I may change my vote.  Upon further considering it might be best to shuffle the board and the Metroid.    Vote Pokepal148

*wipes the counter* 'Nother day ahead of tending the bar. Seems like I get busier all the time. More time spent cleaning up broken glass than serving drinks though. Who would have thought a planet named Outlaw would be filled with such raucous characters?

My waitress, Cupcake, complains about her tips. These brigands gotta be cheap on top of their vandalism! Still, things may pick up soon. Keep hearing rumors about bounty hunters, federation  soldiers and space pirates coming here. Convention, maybe? The Brigandia Chamber of Commerce is always trying to drum up business by hook or by crook.

Just another sign that Outlaw's getting more commercial. Hear there's some kind of contest associated with this gathering and we got to vote early and often to see who gets to go to the next level. Not sure if that's a good thing or not. Seems suspicious. I'll have to consult my friend, Jamison Jones, Esq. He's never steered me wrong!

I don't want us to have a tie as that leads to bad things in Khush games (looks like the Kraid role gets to kill when that happens, and if Kraid is gone, dealers choice, and Khush makes sure that never ends well for us).

So Vote Shyguy. Also seems like a safer bet, because I think Pokepal has gone and outed himself holding important items/roles in the past, so it's not unheard of for him to pull a stunt like this.

So there is a little less than 7 hours of Day one so a quick recap of who has posted and voted and any activity.

Stratos votes for Mop it up as usual on Day 1 and usually Mop it up returns the vote until she decides to vote for someone different. Changes it to ShyGuy later on to break the tie between ShyGuy and pokepal.

Mop it up voted for Nickmitch right off the bat and Nickmitch returns the favor. Talk of bounty, roleplay and votes. Changes her vote to Steefosaurus after thatguy's post. Changes once again to pokepal for the 9th vote.

BeautifulShy voted for Lucario to start as a random vote and then changed it to ShyGuy to make a tie. I also talk about the roles and how they work and possible reasons why someone may be a certain role. I finally decide to go and vote for pokepal after much thought.

ejamer voted for Stratos to start because they posted first with their vote. Changed it to pokepal later on.  Also says he isn't sure if he can trust the comments made by pokepal about "tell me all you know and protect me" by pokepal but believes that pokepal has the Metroid.

Mr. Bungle commented on how these games start and how the end game is more about back tracking.

Pokepal first votes for stevey, claims to have the Metroid and then later changes their vote to ShyGuy for self defense.

Insanolord votes for pokepal to stop them from speaking that way.

ShyGuy votes for pokepal and says that Insanolord convenced him.

ejamer votes for pokepal but  says he likes the accent but who can resist a bandwagon

GK starts the ShyGuy vote. No other comments thus far.

stevey is curious about the interactions of how the Metroid works and if pokepal if he has a metroid can send it to someone else willingly. Votes for pokepal and notes the pros and cons of doing so.

Steefosaurus notes things in their CPU voice. 3 votes for the same person in one hour. 1st person to PM me.  Votes Mop it up.

MASB does their roleplay thing. No Vote.

Thatguy votes for pokepal and proposes to have everyone vote out pokepal as it would shuffle the Metroid around.

Luigi Dude votes for pokepal after thatguys suggestion. Is pretty accurate on last games events after he was neighborized.

The Fleece is going along with thatguys vote for pokepal and thinks it would be safest to shuffle the board and Metroid.

The Space Pirate with the Metroid is trying to move on to safety with the Space Pirates but this Pirate gets hit by a laser blast and croaks. As the Pirate's body hits the ground, the Metroid in its glass holding container rolls from the lifeless body into the middle of the battlefield.

Dealing with this metroid sounds like risky business so I feel like we should get hazard pay for this job. I say we start a space pirate union. Who is with me?

The Metroid is the only item that can be swapped among players

So does that mean poke can swap it and give it to someone else at will? Can we just hot potato it until we find (Dark) Samus and get a self destruct alert?

The person guarding the Metroid can not give it away. It must be taken from them out of their cold dead hands. The Metroid only changes hands when the person guarding it is voted out or eliminated in a hit. If the player is targeted by multiple hits on the same night then it will be a random decision who gets it like the vote.

As an aside, most likely this will not happen but I'll outline it here and now, this is the weirdest night action outcome. A townie is guarding the Metroid. That night, the townie is targetted by a Samus, the Godfather and the Townie Vigilante (Omega Pirate) at the same time. One of those three will be randomly selected to receive the Metroid. Now, if the Omega Pirate is the one who receives the Metroid there is a problem. He is going to be eliminated for targeting a townie. The Omega Pirate can not take the Metroid into the Dead Thread. What to do? I could randomly select any living player to end up with it. However, since the Townie Vigilante represents the townie side (and since I envision it as a firefight involving all three factions fighting for the Metroid at once) with the townie side winning by getting control of the Metroid in that situation, I will randomly select one of the remaining townie to gain control of the Metroid from the Townie Vigilante (Omega Pirate). Like I say, that particular scenario is rare. But more likely it would be applied in case the Vigilante targets a Space Pirate who is in control of the Metroid and thus takes possession of the Metroid but must be eliminated for targeting a fellow Space Pirate.

I have to give a vote Pokepal.

I'll take it at face value he's telling the truth. This was a bad idea, Pokepal. The last few games I played or observed involving Pokepal involved him making bad decision after bad decision. When I was Godfather, he was the one that put me in the alliance, and set up a win, providing information about who had what role, clarifying the picture of what paths I should have taken.

My advice? Everyone vote for Pokepal. Rescramble where the Metroid is. At this point, if you don't vote for Pokepal, you're only increasing the chance that an organized mafia gets the Metroid. Whereas, if everyone votes for Pokepal, odds are it goes to the townies anyway, and odds are against Samus holding it. If it goes to the mafia, there's no consequence. We'll vote them out initially.

Whomever gets the Metroid, my advice is for you to shut up about it instead of relying on a doctor we technically don't know is even playing.

Again, I don't see much reason to doubt Pokepal. I can just say revealing this information doesn't provide any safety or cover for the townies, and it's a great way for a townie alliance to have mafia infiltration from the start. It's a terrible idea. Let's reset the board, assuming he's truthful. If he's not truthful, then it's a win. This is about as close to a day one win-win the townies can get, really.

Or, you know, we could keep him alive, watch the doctor fail to protect, and watch Samus run away with the thing on the second day and go ahead and lose. That's essentially how awful a plan this was.

I'm going to say, Vote Pokepal.

In the previous game, Pokepal outed themselves early and we thought they were bluffing and that's why we tried to do a mafia hit early on thinking making themselves such an obvious target to make us not go after them.

So if Pokepal is mafia or Samus,  what better way to make the townies feel safe then by doing the same thing they did last game.  As someone who was mafia last game, and then assimilated to another mafia so had to be a double agent, but is just a basic townie now, I can't help but be paranoid about who I can trust this game.

Sorry Pokepal, you might be innocent but part of me can't shake the chance that you aren't and for the glory of the Space Pirates all doubt must be eliminated.

I was told by numerous people that you could likely be trusted so I took the chance since I figured you were skilled enough to carry the rest of the townie victory. It backfired spectacularly, everyone has been on my case about it (including the folks who told me you could be trusted in the first place) and overall it was a learning experience for me.

Last game I was forced into pretty much an unwinnable situation after being overall much more careful with PMs. The Doctor and Detective found each other on their own before they reached but overall my plan had been to have multiple smaller alliances between myself and players that I felt I could trust. That way if one of them was a turn coat they wouldn't be able to find the doctor or detective and overall would be limited in what information they receive from me.

Ironically this worked to my advantage when I was turned. One of the people in my fake townie alliance was someone who had reached out earlier with a screenshot verifying that they were a townie at that point and iirc I called on them to help with a vote. Later on because I hadn't told him that Nickmitch was the detective I was able to rope them into the fake townie alliance with Lolmonade as the detective but that kind of situation is thankfully unlikely to happen here.

Behavioural analysis suggests the organic lifeforms appear to value decision-making, even if baseless. May explain latent authoritarian tendencies. Will adjust behavioural protocols to fall in line with their desires.

Current data indicates 12 votes cast. 66.66% of votes focused on single player. Considering known hostile actors, chance of all votes cast by hostiles range: 14.52% - 21.78%.

Simulating scenarios:
1. Unleash Omega Pirate on PlayerID_Pokepal. If Samus, theory of PlayerID_BeautifulShy confirmed.
ODDS: RISKY, jeapordises future position for unknown gain.
2. Address pessimism. PlayerID_ThatGuy instigates unchallenged rift in presumed FactionID_Pirates.
ODDS: POOR. Organic lifeforms susceptible to GroupThink.
3. Force stalemate, observe Kraid actions early.
ODDS: LOW. Time constraints unfavourable.
4. Defence. PlayerID_Mop_It_Up minor threat to .Adam/Mainframe. Threats must be removed.
ODDS: PETTY.

Pros for everyone voting Pokepal: Samus and the Feddies will surely target one of the voters. The more voters, the lower their odds of hitting the one with the metroid.
