First DS Game Box-Art Revealed
« on: September 28, 2004, 03:26:42 AM »
It's up at DS-Insider, for Spidey 2.  They're all worked up about it, but personally, I don't think it's that great.  Don't know if this is fake or what, but it's worth a look-see.

If that's real then the DS box art looks a hell of a lot like Dreamcast boxes

Can't they adopt a DVD-size casing for the DS, too? After all, everything but GBA games is sold in DVD cases. The smaller cases somehow seem more backwards in comparison. Besides, they don't fit anywhere reliably.

Hm, any word on whether DS games will include protective cases for the media again?

That looks like ass.  It also looks pretty fake.  I imagine that Activision doesn't yet know what the box will look like so they slapped together this mockup.  I remember when the Rogue Leader boxart first surfaced it didn't match what the final Cube box design turned out to be.

Mmmmmmm...ass...

I think it looks okay, but I predict it's a mockup.  Anyone could have come up with that in an hour.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Does it really make sense to use GBA-sized boxes when the games are only slightly larger than SD cards?  I thought I would never say this in a million years, but Nintendo should make the cases like N-Gage games.  Just shrunken down DVD cases.
If I want realism I'll go outside.

If the cases look like that, mainstream casual players will see the DS as just a gameboy, as it's cases are virtually indentical other than Nintendo DS replacing GBA on the side, and many people will only see the cases in stores prominently, with the consoles tucked somewhere below the games or behind the counter, etc.  Seems Nintendo is going the cheap route here, like using the same control pad on GC/GBA.  Not good news.

Well, it might be a preliminary design and the designer was simply assuming they're using the same size again. Considering they were talking about putting GBA games in DVD cases that's pretty unlikely.

No! Haven't any of you seen the pictures of the DS game cases that were displayed at E3?!? They are like little shrunken down DVD cases! I agree with the mainstream casual players seeing the DS as a GameBoy if the boxes were to be the same... but they aren't!

I hope, they have small plastic boxes for the games, that come with game cases. The gba boxes, get crushed too easily.

Eww. That kinda... sucks.

Well, Nintendo was smart enough to put US Cube games in DVD cases, so I kinda doubt this is the final design.

Games stores are too overcrowded as it is. I think most will just take more space from already-limited GBA games to wedge in a DS section. So they'll probably have smaller cases. The GameCube should have the smaller cases, but Nintendo needs to impress Josh Public, so I guess you can't blame them. ;¬]

That's what I meant. And it probably was NOA, not wanting the GCN section to look inferior. Bah. Give me my little Cube cases.

A wise decision by NOA though. Think of it, the Cube might be thought even more of as a toy if they'd launched with those tiny cases.

Besides, the instruction books would be freakin' TINY.
