Gamecube has stronger lineup this year?
« on: May 08, 2003, 05:24:33 PM »
What do you think? It had a very good one last year, everyone can agree. But look at all the killer stuff popping up this year that's exclusive, and notice how it's a lot more than 5 or so Nintendo published games:

Tales of Symphonia
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
F-Zero GX
Mario Kart Double Dash!!
Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg
Wario World
1080: Avalanche
Pikmin 2
Kirby's Air Ride
Star Wars Rouge Squadron 3: Rebel Strike
Pilotwings
Game Zero
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
Mario Tennis
Sonic Adventure DX
Star Fox Armada
Viewtiful Joe
Dead Phoenix
Killer 7
P.N.03
Gotcha Force
Unnamed Donkey Kong game
Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life
Mario 128
Virtua Fighter Quest

Not to mention surprises, plus games that will be coming in 2004 like Resident Evil 4, Too Human, and Metroid Prime 2.

That's one big list...and on top of that I probably forgot some stuff. And don't forget the surprises...Oh and these are all exclusive as of now remember...

EDIT: Fear and Ground Zero were hoaxes and have been taken off the list..

Here's to hoping that all those come out this year (even though my budget won't be able to handle it too well).  But some (Kirby's Air Ride, Pilotwings, Fear, Ground Zero, Mario Tennis, Harvest Moon, Mario 128; just to name a few) probably won't be out in the US by the end of this year.

It's a lot stronger in the sense that it plays more to Nintendo's strengths.
I think 4P party games are Nintendo's biggest asset. These are the games that will convince PS2 owners to buy a Gamecube as a second console. They are also Nintendo's strongest link to casual gamers. Last year, Nintendo just made the big mistake of relying too much on 1P games to sell consoles. I suppose Super Mario Sunshine was suppose to be the console's big system-seller but, the problem was, there were already plenty of 3D platform games on the PS2.

"Super Mario Sunshine did go on to sell over 2 million worldwide...."

I didn't say the game didn't sell well, just that it didn't cause that much of an increase in hardware sales.

Well actually it did, since a lot of those 2 million were because of the pack in deal....

Well, actually I'm thinking Harvest Moon will be out this year. This very site has it coming in September and I'm pretty sure they keep their dates up to date.
As for that list, yes, there are some that won't make it out this year but well over half that list will and as has been pointed out, people can only buy so many games a year and that's just a list of exclusive games (of which I think Wrestlemania XIX should be added since it seems to be much improved this year). Add in the multiplatform stuff and the lineup looks quite good.

So Gamefreak edit them out of your list, it's still gonna be a badass year for the Gamecube.

As for me Im gonna support 3rd party more....Madden, DX, Soul 2, F-Zero, Megaman Transmission, and PN 03.

That is below expectations.  Yes, I know the figure is phenomonal, but they expected Sunshine to sell almost as strongly as Mario 64 did.
I got some killaz on my payroll.

"Game Zero, Gotcha Force, Unnamed Donkey Kong game"

Wow games we know like absolutely nothing about!  Gamecube really has the stronger lineup this year!

Honestly I'm getting pretty tired of these threads that list every Cube title imaginable that might even be slightly good and proclaim that the Gamecube has the best lineup or whatever.  I'm sure any Xbox or PS2 fan could make up a similar list.  A good chunk of those titles will probably be at best good but not great.  In the end probably only like five or six of those will be must-own titles and the rest will be cult hits that some like and some don't.  Including a title like Wario World, which got ho-hum impressions at last year's E3, as part of a "killer lineup" is pretty fanboyish.  Aside from it being a Nintendo game their isn't any evidence thus far that suggests that it's going to be an amazing game.

Of the titles listed, heres what I'm planning on:
Tales of Symphonia
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
1080: Avalanche
Star Wars Rouge Squadron 3: Rebel Strike
Pilotwings (possibly)
Viewtiful Joe (possibly)

Plus Enter The Matrix, which I now have enough money for, just have to wait til next Thursday.  Wait, "Gamecube has stronger lineup this year?" are you talking about this year or next year?  Because as far as I know, half of those are supossed to be released next year.

Ian, by "stronger", I didn't mean "better". This list is intended to show that we have more exclusive games this year...I guess you misunderstood. Those are all the exclusive games we get this year, and compared it last year it's a big improvement...
