Movies & TV / Re: Rate the last TV show you've seen
« on: March 13, 2014, 10:13:22 AM »
I just discovered Till Death on Netflix, I am a sitcom junkie and I thought cool the guy from Raymond who could actually act. So far I am mid way through season 2 and it's losing my interest already. Season 1 was a slow start but it got going near the end, season 2 just kind of feels forced.

I am waiting impatiently for Netflix to get the last season of How I Met Your Mother, I missed the first half, watched a couple random episodes and decided not to watch anymore till I can see them all and Hulu does not have them all so I might catch the finale and then go back once Netflix gets them all.

I have Green Arrow and a couple other super hero shows in my list to watch but I am saving those for the summer when I have more time.

yea but Boogerman had ONE game, EJ had a few stinkers to taint his name. But to be fair your probably right in that regards.

the topic was to introduce gamers to the widest possible game play experiences, where else is that more evident than Boogerman? Nostalgia has nothing to do with it, I hate the game today its clearly made for kids and immature adults who like Beavis and Butt head. Also it captures the 90's console experience perfectly. If I was basing my list on nostalgia it would be entirely different, games a gamer today would seriously not at all care about. Honestly I used this list because those are the games I initiated my nephews on and they all turned into hard core gamers by the end.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Watch_Dogs officially delayed... on Wii U
« on: March 13, 2014, 09:34:50 AM »
It wasn't just this forum, its the entire internet, everyone was screaming wait till watch dogs that will bring 3rd parties back, and that was before they announced actually adding gamepad features, which I would think should get people excited for the game again. I know the whole 3rd party situation I was there all the way through n64 and GC, things were bleak then but they look rosy compared to now.

I doubt there's any game that I'd argue all 7 billion people on Earth should play, so it becomes a matter of degree

Sure there is, Tetris, but that's already been done...

OK so pre-launch they come out and say they are not using the Gamepad it's a straight port and every one praises it as the savior of the Wii U, then it gets delayed to add gamepad support and now it's garbage that should have just been canceled all along? Did I miss something because that's how I been reading all the comments about this game for a while now. I think if they really can use the gamepad in a meaningful way that could be a big motivator for some, I know it got me to take a second look at Wii U after I had written it off as a purchase I would make second hand down the road.

I guess what I meant was I am surprised the system dropped so much so fast, I mean sure it has game shortages but that hasn't stopped anyone else from buying it the hype alone is mostly what's sold it till now the games are all down the road. Is it because the Japanese don't buy into hype and promises like Europeans/Americans do?

My sister says she is bipolar but I still don't understand what it means. I first though it was something her lawyer made up to get her off the hook but she swears its a real thing.

As for being alone, I think we all feel that, why else do we look for friends on the internet? I think that is a part of our modern society for all the connectivity we have online it just makes us more distant in person and I think it's going to lead us down a very dark path sooner rather than latter. You are right about a close knit family I got that from reading the post about the guy who lost his wife recently, sounds like the people here all care about each other and that is one reason why I signed up, I could use some of that in my life being more open to other peoples needs, being more social even if it is just online.

One good way to feel better is to get into a church, even if you do not share their beliefs its a good place to find real support, I used to go to a church that had an addictions outreach program and I saw a lot of people turn their lives around even if they didn't convert to the faith.

Movies & TV / Re: New Movies/TV Shows we should keep an eye out for!

I am so looking forward to DC getting their crap together and making a good Flash movie. I will settle for a decent TV show until they do though. I used to read old Flash comics, the ones original ones with Hawkman I would kill for them to do him justice in a movie or tv show, even a cartoon if thats what it takes. But the Flash was also pretty good, I even kind of liked the show from the 90s even if it was short lived.

I didn't even think Hulu ever lost stuff I thought it was run directly by the studios, I guess I was wrong I signed up this past week and a ton of shows I used to watch with my mom are all gone.

So I been lurking for a while getting a feel for the place, twisted my arm to signup for that March Madness stuff. I found this site via Google a while back searching for news on Wii U games and have been checking it out daily ever since.

I am a lapsed gamer, my last console was a Wii, I got it for the Wii Sports and the Virtual Console I loved that little thing until my parents hijacked it and I just lost interest in video games altogether for a while. I kept going with cell phone games and last summer I signed up for Steam to buy the AVGN game and have been slowly getting back into gaming. I just purchased a GBC and grabbed a few classics, Mario Land Centipede/Milipede, Galaga/Galaxian, Tetris, and some Ninja Gaiden game Shadows something or other.

What finally has me on the fence for Wii U is remembering how fun Wii was and wanting to get back into some of those games but also since Wii U can play Wii games I might as well get the newer one, also Hyrule Warriors really has me pumped. I know Wii U is going to be a slow start but I figure with the few good Wii games I missed out on its almost worth it just for that. Plus my PS3 is essentially just a spare Blu Ray player/Netflix machine (I love Max that app is totally worth it alone even though he can't figure me out to save his virtual life)

I haven't been in a position to hook my TV up since November but I am looking for a place soon and first thing I want once I am on my feet is a Wii U.

I love these kind of questions, they really make you think. Like asking a movie fan who is just getting into films where to start or what are the essentials, obviously everyone has their own lists but it is fun to speculate which ones each person thinks are essential.

As for me, I think it is sad that most of you are starting with Super NES or NES, shameful you kids must not remember the awesome that was Atari, because AVGN and Youtube have sullied Atari's once great reputation it is almost a crime to admit you actually like them, not liked but still do.

Anyways rant over, here is my list.

Pong, any, all, as many as you can get your hands on these games are just pure fun and really remind people that video games are GAMES at their core.

Pac-Man
Cenitpede
Asteroids (any but I highly recommend the VCS version as it is easier to play for newbies)
Galaga
Pole Position
Q*Bert
Frogger
Missile Command
Adventure (VCS)
Donkey Kong (arcade and NES)
Popeye
Mario Bros
Super Mario Bros 1-3 (leave out the folk lore and let them enjoy SMB 2 for what it is and go back to the pre-internet ignorance that allowed us to just enjoy game instead of analyzing them.
Legend of Zelda
TMNT (arcade either one but the first one for sure)
Double Dragon
Castlevania
Tetris
Sim City (any but the SNES one also)
Super Metroid (skip the NES one its been redone better)
Zelda Link to the Past
Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic 2 and 3 for sure but really any of the classics)
Final Fantasy 3(6)
FF 7
Super Mario Kart (SNES original and any of the 3D ones should do)
Resident Evil 2
Street Fighter 2 (again any addition but work your way up to Super)
Mortal Kombat Trilogy (for us old timers sure the first three were great but to a young guy Trilogy is all you need)
Tekken (any but 3 is a good place to start)
Virtua Fighter 2
Pokemon (GB)
Gauntlet (1 + 2, Legends)
D&D Tower of Doom
Knights of the Round
Golden Axe
Altered Beast
Space Harrier
Ghosts N Goblins
Contra (NES forget the arcade)
Super C and Contra Hard Corps
Mega Man X (sure they are all great but to a newbie X is the place to start)
Doom/Wolfenstein/Duke Nukem 3D ( in THAT order)
Star Wars (Super NES, Arcade, Knights of the Old Republic)
Silent Hill
Gran Turrismo
Kirby Super Star
Diablo
War Craft 2
Eye of the Beholder 2 Legend of Darkmoon
Wizards and Warriors
Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind
Smash Bros (or Melee as a good initiation)
Metroid Prme
Sonic Adventure DX (probably to show them a 3D sonic game can be ok but not to get their hopes too high)
Sonic Advance
Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance (then get to Armaggedon and then the newer ones)
Metal Slug
Crash Bandicoot
Gex
Super Mario 64
OOT
Boogerman
Superman (n64 YES I AM DEAD SERIOUS)
Quake (or Unreal or any of them games)
Columns
Bust A Move
Prince of Persia (on a PC or Sega CD)
Donkey Kong Country
Super Mario RPG
and finish it off with some NBA Jam

that is the essentials ever gamer should play before they die, in that order for someone who has never experienced the classics.

I think everyone knew the PS4 was going to sweep the Wii U under the rug in Japan, that was to be expected, but to see the PS4 dropping so drastically after such a huge start is kind of odd. I don't know if it will be in May or April but Nintendo can count on me for one more Wii U sale now that I have seen how great DKC:TP is and that I have found out about Hyrule Warriors I have some new found hype for the system I had given up on.

I can chime in on the topic at hand, well the OP anyways. I think the Vita is going to fade away and be forgotten maybe not like the N-Gage but more like the Game Gear, whereas the Wii U has the potential to at least reach levels somewhere between Dreamcast and Game Cube, and will make a mid-generation bounce back once the games start rolling in and the price comes down.

I don't know about everyone else but the Vita does not have a single game I am interested in that I can not get elsewhere, but the Wii U has at least three games out now I am aching to buy and at least two more on the way that for me make it very appealing. The games out now are Sonic Lost Worlds, Super Mario 3D World, and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, the two for sure that have me interested are Watch Dogs and Hyrule Warriors. I know Watch Dogs is multiplatform and I will likely get it on PS3 unless I give in and get a PS4 but Hyrule Warriors looks like the Zelda game I have been waiting for, a game that focuses on the action, and hopefully has minimal side quests. As for Watch Dogs, with the recent announcement they are really trying to make use of the Game Pad has changed my mind about it having potential to be great. I just hope it isn't delayed too far down the road or else people forget about it.

I never tried PS move, but I felt that with Wii the motion controls were great at first but after a while the magic wore off. I had high hopes for that but in the end they released too many party games and mini game collections to really stay hyped for too long. I am seriously considering a Wii U but I understand the motion controls are no longer a major part of that which I think is part of why it is selling so poorly, nobody knows what to make of it. Sure the people who complain about the waggle were excited for a more "traditional" controller but what about the people who bought into the Wii because of motion controls? It's like Nintendo has this amazing industry changing idea and instead of shaking things up all it does is turns the world on it's side and turns everyone into bitter enemies.

I would like to see what Nintendo could do with improved motion controls and virtual reality headsets like everyone is talking about, that would be great. Maybe scrap the Wii remote and build an improved motion scheme into a tiny glove you wear no not a power glove but something that just gives you full motion tracking like with Wii but is in your finger tips and if you want to hold a virtual controller no big deal that can be programmed in. why can't they do something like that make everybody happy?
