I unsubscribed a few years ago since I didn't really play games anymore.

I bought a Switch a few weeks ago.

Re-sub.

Hi.

That's all.

Please continue.

One layer of strategy removed.

And I'm almost always against any changes in any game that over simplify strategy.

Nice.

Speaking as someone who only owns a 3DS and hasn't owned a (any console) for 10 years, down with the Wii U, all hail the 3DS.  :P:

560 points and forever waiting for something worth spending to points on for the 3DS.

1. Fire Emblem: Awakening
2. Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
3. Super Mario 3D Land
...
...
7-10 ???

I'm sure I could find and list 7 more titles for my list, but they don't really matter that much to me.  The gap between my #3 game and whatever my #4 game is, is so huge, it almost doesn't matter.  I had so much more fun playing these 3 games in particular that the rest kind of doesn't matter.

(Surprised Fire Emblem isn't on the other lists that were posted.)

With me and my friends, we always played with all items off, except for Pokeballs. :)

And most of the time, we would play on Pokemon stages. ^_^

Just follow up on the Melee discussion, if you watch Part 2 of "The Smash Brothers" documentary, the subject of using items in game comes up and is a big deal.  Basically, the East Coast players turned all items off and the West Coast players played with items on.  The legitimacy of the tournament results comes up and the need to standardize it became important.

I posted this in the EVO announcement thread, but I'll post it again.

Even if you're a Nintendo fan and care nothing about eSports/competitive gaming, you really should watch "The Smash Brothers" documentary.  If you're a fan of documentaries in general, you should also watch it.

It's broken up into multiple parts.  Here's a link (just start on part 1): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tgWH-qXpv8&list=PLoUHkRwnRH-KTCH3tJ9WvsWWPEgUu-y6d

It's broken into 9 parts and each part is 20-35 minutes long.  So the entire thing is 4+ hours.

I've watched a ton of Starcraft 2, but I never followed SSBM.  After watching this documentary, I feel like I have a pretty good grasp of the scene (in general) and can appreciate EVO and MLG a lot more when SSBM comes back.  (Starcraft 2 is also coming back to the next MLG, btw.)

Anyway, I highly recommend watching it.  I know it's a lot, so just watch it one part at a time.  You won't regret it.

There was actually a dual announcement;

Super Smash Bros. Melee is coming back to both EVO and MLG.

Also, I never followed the Smash eSports scene at all in that past, but a couple months ago I watched the "The Smash Brothers" documentary that was made, posted on Youtube.  It's really well done and I'm actually looking forward to tuning into both EVO & MLG when they roll around.

TalkBack / Re: Physical Games vs. Digital Games: The Face-Off
« on: February 19, 2014, 07:42:33 PM »
Why can't we have both? Why can't we all just get along?!

I should also add that I recently bought a nice 3DS case from Amazon that has pockets for 6 games.  So I do have physical copies of Crono Trigger, Lego Star Wars Complete Sage, Lego Star Wars III, and Dragon Quest IV.  I'll probably end up buying Dragon Quest V and VI.

If these were available in digital, I would get them digitally.  But I they fit nicely in the case I got so I don't mind having 7 physical games (no more!).

100% digital in all things that are available in digital.

I want to own as few physical things in my life as possible.  Digital movies, streaming online television shows, digital games, etc.  I haven't owned a TV in ~10 years.  If I can't play a game on my laptop or 3DS then I'm not interested.

I came to this change in my life after I cleaned out drawers & shelves worth of plastic Gamecube crap from my room and wondered what the hell I was doing.  Moving it all sucks, sifting through it all sucks, and losing a copy sucks.

Whatever I can do to have less physical stuff, the better.

Speaking of one of my favorite NES games of all time and speaking of things the game doesn't explain...

Here are a few important things you should know before playing; not really spoilers, just mechanics:

Whenever you see a crystal jewel thing (shaped like a diamond), if you just gather it normally, it will just give you points (that do nothing but increase your score).  You have to use your wand on it to cycle there 3 or 4 different items before collecting it.  And you usually want to change them all into fireballs.  This is important because after the first few stages, straight up fireball items never appear for the rest of the game.  You can only get additional fireballs from these jewels.

Also, some people get confused about the items that alter your life meter (count down timer).  There are 2 types of these items: items that give you more life (bottles) and items that set your life to either 100% or 50% of the starting life (hourglasses).  So if your life is at 75% and if you get the 50% hourglass, then you'll actually lose life.

If you look at the Bravely Default page on Amazon and look at the pictures and read the comments, it looks like Amazon incorrectly packaged ALL of the Bravely Default collector's edition sets: http://www.amazon.com/Bravely-Default-Collectors-Edition-Nintendo-3DS/dp/B00GV4V8YQ/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1392621991&sr=8-2&keywords=bravely+default

It wasn't just Jon's copy that had issues.

It's funny how a lot of people , especially self professed "i'm not really into jrpg's" kind of people, are turned off by the job system.   I admit, I am REALLY into jrpg's, and i have no problem with job systems, but no one complained about the job system in 4 heroes if light, and that was the same developer.   And everyone gushed over fire emblem last year and that was most definitely a job system.

I never used Second Seals in Fire Emblem.

It didn't feel like a game with a job system to me.
k then pick your jobs and never change them. now the game doesn't have a job system. HURR

Is it possible to go through the game without changing classes?

If so, then I'll probably give it a shot.

Also: I'm not opposed to customizing your party.  I would much rather have a Final Fantasy I style game where you pick your party in the beginning, for example.  I think it adds a lot of replay value.  (Similar to the way D&D type games let you customize?)

I agree with Zach.

I was really looking forward to it and heard a lot of good things about the demo.  Downloaded the demo and the job systems kills any excitement I had for it.  I really dislike RPGs with job systems in general.  I never finished the demo.

My biggest regret is being so much of a Nintendo fanboy that I refused to buy a Playstation or Playstation 2.  I stuck with my N64 and Gamecube only and I feel like I missed out on some of the best games ever made.

Looking forward to Bravely Default.  Still haven't downloaded the demo yet.

After falling in love with the DS Layton games, there's something about Miracle Mask that hasn't hooked me at all.  I pick it up and put it down and I doubt I'll ever finish it.  I might drop the entire series for a while.
