8:13:52: Hey everyone, Jonny here! We're less than one hour out from the start of Nintendo's biggest event of the year.

8:14:32: The gang's all here and I'm sitting with Aaron, Billy, Craig Harris, Jeremy Parish, and Sam Claiborn from Nintendo Voice Chat.

8:16:00: When the event begins, I'll be focusing on posting the facts as quickly as possible. If I have an editorial comment, it'll be preceded by "Ed:"

8:16:53: And now I'll go quiet for a while to conserve batteries -- plan to be back in half an hour to cover the final countdown.

8:30:43: Video feed is live! Refresh if you need to.

8:34:43: Wii U consoles spotted on-stage.

8:53:23: Wi-Fi is flaking... 4G ftw.

8:59:54: Jonny here, back on the case! We're just a couple of minutes away now. The visual trivia included the U.S. Super Metroid box art. Clue???

9:02:02: Miyamoto video... he picks a suit

9:04:02: Test TEst test

9:04:49: Ok, liveblog is working now! Miyamoto and Trinen are on stage talking about Wii U's concept after a quick intro showing Pikmin (but not the game yet).

9:06:07: PIKMIN 3

9:07:01: Pikmin 3 has realistic HD graphics. New types are Rock Pikmin.

9:07:48: Basic controls: Remote/Nunchuk. Shake Nunchuk to charge. Pointer directs the reticule to throw Pikmin.

9:08:53: Wii U GamePad always shows the map, even if you're playing with a different controller. You can also play with just the GamePad. Now there are four leader characters, but Olimar is not one of them! The reason is secret.

9:09:46: Challenge Mode has you collecting as much fruit as possible in the time limit. Has replays. Want people to remember the fun that deeper games can offer!

9:09:46: Challenge Mode has you collecting as much fruit as possible in the time limit. Has replays. Want people to remember the fun that deeper games can offer!

9:10:38: Miyamoto pulls a red pikmin doll out of his pocket (reference to the video intro from before).

9:11:14: Reggie enters the stage (at Miyamoto's whistle!) as Shigeru and Trinen leave.

9:12:03: Reggie promises 23 Wii U games on the stage today. Everyone who watched MS and Sony should be relieved.

9:12:32: Presentation showing pics of the black console and controller as well as the familiar white version.

9:13:11: Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Amazon Video announced

9:14:13: "In the near future, we'll see how Wii U will integrate and innovate your living room." But E3 is all about the games and how Wii U connects you to others.

9:15:27: Pics show that the GamePad's home button has a blue LED ring -- probably to help you find it in a dark room?

9:15:56: Reggie announces support for two GamePads (like SNES)

9:17:30: Begin guided tour video to the GamePad controller itself. Stylus included.Rear triggers are ZL and ZR. IR sensor is on the top edge. Front has camera/mic and stereo speakers. Headphone port too.

9:17:48: And of course, motion control is built in.

9:18:20: Reggie is summarizing Miiverse. For a show all about the games, they've only shown one in 15 minutes.

9:19:42: Looks like there is an icon in the lower right corner of Miiverse to access the tile-based system menu (looks similar to the grid for Wii Home channel and 3DS home channel).

9:20:29: Mario is coming. Reggie notes fans always want one for launch.

9:21:09: New Super Mario Bros. U -- pic shows flying squirrel suit and baby yoshi

9:21:48: Reggie talking how Miiverse enhances NSMBU. Shows pic of the overworld with Miiverse comments that we saw in Nintendo Direct.

9:22:03: Flying squirrel suit appears similar to the cape.

9:22:41: Yoshi an inflate to let you float like a blimp. More texture on many of the pipes and other objects than we saw on Wii.

9:23:03: A fifth player can use the Game Pad's touch screen to place blocks as obstacles for the other four on Remotes.

9:23:28: Batman Arkham City logo shown. This game is almost a year old...

9:24:02: Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition. Harley's voice intros Martin Tremblay from WB Interactive.

9:25:55: Reggie calls this a unique version of Batman AC. Tremblay intros a video of someone from dev Rocksteady to show some footage. Menus on GamePad screen, also can motion control the remote batarang.

9:26:57: Wii U version is being made at WB Montreal studio. Yet another dev comes out to explain more. Batman's armored suit absorbs kinetic energy. When the "BAT" meter fills, Batman can deal even more damage.

9:27:54: Use the touch screen to detonate multiple explosive gels in any order you want.

9:28:22: ScribbleNauts

9:28:39: jeremiah Slazcka from 5th Cell coming out

9:28:56: His shoes are red as hell

9:29:16: Scribblenauts Unlimited is "the definitive exprience"

9:30:24: Graphics look like Scribblenauts... but on the tablet, you can drag pieces to create new objects like a dog with wheels. Share new items with friends. New story mode.

9:31:18: The Unlimited must refer to ability to create your own items... give them a unique name so friends can invoke them by typing in words like any other item?

9:31:54: Third party reel time: Darksiders II, Mass Effect 3, Tank Tank Tank!

9:32:36: Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Trine 2: Director's Cut, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, Aliens Colonial Marines

9:33:03: Not all of that footage was actually running on Wii U hardware.

9:33:44: Reggie talks about stepping onto the Wii Balance Board 5 years ago. Says some of us were laughing. "Yes, my body was ready!" hahaha

9:34:35: 43 million Wii Fit and Plus have been sold around the world. "Wii Fit U adds another valuable peripheral."

9:34:50: Vitality Sensor coming?

9:36:03: New trampoline jumping game. Water spray game looks a bit like Mario Sunshine. Luge. There's a pedometer that syncs with the GamePad.

9:36:56: Also shows the guy doing lunges while the girl watches a TV show. He is looking at the game displayed on the GamePad. The new accessory is called Fit Meter.

9:38:13: Sing (working title) Freestyle Games is a karaoke game with words shown on GamePad so you can face your friends while performing. Also detects your dancing movements while singing.

9:38:36: Looks like she's using a USB mic connected to the wii U console.

9:39:09: Reggie introduces Scott Moffit (NOA) to talk about 3DS very quickly.

9:40:03: Refers to the 3DS Software Showcase tomorrow night. First and third party games will be there. They are live streaming it. We'll be there too!

9:41:12: Showing three first-party titles. NSMB 2 -- "clearly different from the Wii U game". It's all about the gold. Coins all over the place. Racoon tail shown -- you can fly just like in SMB3.

9:41:45: paper Mario art shown. Surprised to see this here. Paper Mario Sticker Star is the title.

9:42:42: Stickers are the big new element. Pull them off the environment and they become your battle commands. Look like they slowly fall away as you use them, so limited usage.

9:42:55: Arrives physically and digitally this holiday season

9:43:24: Luigi's Mansion 2 is the third game to be shown here. New title: Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon

9:44:09: Multiple mansions and greater challenges. Rainbow flashlight shown in footage. Launches this holiday season.

9:44:56: "Tremendous slate of 3rd party games coming to 3DS" Here comes a reel.

9:45:43: Castlevania Mirror of Fate -- yes it's 2D. Epic Mickey Power of Illusion. Scribblenauts Unlimited for 3DS. Kingdom Heearts DDD

9:46:14: Reggie back talking about Lego City for Wii U. Was announced last year.

9:46:56: This looks like an open world game. Lego GTA? Also has platforming with wall jumps and trapeze moves.

9:48:11: Use GamePad screen to scan environment for criminals. Choose a disguise and go undercover -- gives you different abilities. Kung Fu cut-scene based on The Matrix. More open world gameplay. Looks a lot like GTA!

9:48:59: Eclusive portable version of Lego City Undercover for 3DS -- same franchise but different game. Not actually shown.

9:49:29: Reggie: "From the hardest of the core to the newest of the newbies." Who wrote this?

9:49:43: Reggie introduces Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot

9:50:50: Yves talking how awesome Wii and Wii U are, He's speaking directly to Reggie but looking askance to read the teleprompter. Weird setup.

9:52:12: Yves intros Xavier Poix from Ubisoft French Studios to discuss Just Dance 4. Reggie will be Puppet Master for the dance crew coming out now.

9:52:52: Visuals look exactly like other Just Dance games. Reggie is picking the lineup of dance moves for other players.

9:53:22: The guy dancers are dressed like Mormon missionaries; the girls are in 70s-style cheerleader outfits.

9:53:54: Reggie: "Being the puppet master is like running Nintendo of America!"

9:55:19: Zombi U now. Actual game footage. GamePad screen shows sonar or inventory or scanner. When inventory is open, game camera zooms out to third person. Also becomes your sniper scope, door hacking interface, close-up view when zombies get on you.

9:56:32: An A.R. feature lets you hold GamePad camera up to your face to transform you into a zombie. Reggie demonstrates, says in zombie voice "I like French food!" Now Ubi's game reel.

9:57:13: This is the same reel of games that Ubi showed yesterday. You can watch it on our site.

9:58:20: Reggie: Welcome to NintendoLand. What if all Nintendo's franchises came together in a theme park. Comparing to Wii Sports Tennis.

9:59:28: There are multi-colored gates and icons on stage now. Includes the Raccoon Leaf, Triforce, a DK girder, Ninja star, and the bat enemy from Dragon Quest??? Eguchi on stage now.

10:00:32: Your Mii visits the theme park and puts on a costume for each attraction. 12 in all. Five are here at E3. Zelda Battle Quest; Animal Crossing, Luig's Ghost Mansion. DK's Crash Course and Takimaru's Ninja Castle

10:00:54: Takimaru is a very old Nintendo character, missing for about 25 years

10:01:30: Eguchi wants Nintendo Land to be fun when played with friends or competing by yourself.

10:01:58: Will explain how Miiverse integrates with Nintendo Land at tonight's developer roundtable event. We'll be there, too!

10:02:53: Eguchi talking about 5-player mode with asymmetric gameplay. Example is Luigi's Ghost Mansion: Haunting Hijinks.

10:04:01: Immediately this looks a bit like Pac Man vs. Overhead perspective on both displays but only GamePad player can see everyone at once. Main screen doesn't show the ghost.

10:04:40: Remotes rumble when ghost is near. Teammates have to talk to each other. You can't see someone's remote vibrating - this is smart way to require ccommunication.

10:05:23: Remote players are basically playing multiplayer Luigi's Mansion. They have flashlights to search for the ghost. they don't have vacuums so the ghost is defeated when enough light hits it.

10:06:16: but the flashlights have limited batteries. Refill by picking up batteries on the map -- ghost can be lying in wait. Players can also revive each other.

10:08:10: The icon I thought was a DQ bat must actually be a Luigi's Mansion ghost. Now a video of Nintendo Land. The hub seems to be a big place with a train that takes you to all the mini-game attractions. There are other Miis walking around. It's very colorful.

10:08:45: Reggie announces Nintendo Land will launch at same time as Wii U -- but doesn't say it will be packed in! Wonder if that might still happen later.

10:09:39: Reggie says you can watch video of four Wii U games right after this event at e3.nintendo.com

10:11:12: Reggie repeat the motto: "Together Better" Seems to be end of the show. Ending with one more walk through Nintendo Land -- final video. Wondering fi there might be "one more thing" after this.

10:11:44: Final video is just fireworks and music. Where's Retro's game? argh

10:13:21: Weird bug in the audio -- we heard Iwata's voice for a second after the show ended. He must be talking to a separate group elsewhere in the building. So that really is the end. Crowd seems to be grumbling with disappointment overall.

10:13:58: Jonny: I thought there were some cool things shown, but it was a very weak finale to the show. Ubisoft blew some of the load yesterday, perhaps.

10:15:03: We're signing out -- will be looking for playable demos here but they didn't say anything about it. So now we're heading to the media room to write up a lot of things and watch for the press kit to drop with a lot of minor announcements. Keep checking NWR for much more today!
