Mighty Mafia Power Rangers - Game Over
« on: May 26, 2010, 11:57:28 PM »
Eh, there's no point in hiding anymore. Do or die time. Sessha, Thatguy, and ThePerm are the Power Rangers!

With that, Bulk wins the game with her second guess.  Did anyone catch her first ninja-edit guess?  I didn't until she pointed it out to me!

Man. This was the BEST mafia game I've ever played. I had a ton of fun.

Maxi, I would like to publicly apologize if I hurt your feelings or made you feel bad about your actions.

Does anyone else find it hilarious that the best thing that the townie could've/should have done to win would have been to kill a ranger and complete destroy all the info we had gathered (since everyone came up townie :P )

I caught it, I also had a deal with her.

We decided we'd trade our roles with each other, with me not realizing Zedd and Rita knew the Power Rangers, for some reason.  I made the deal I wouldn't go after her if I knew her role, but she'd have to supply me with whatever investigation info, and give up her accomplice, basically, in addition to the deal role swap.  Additionally, I let her know who Zordon was, as part of the deal.

Since she knew my role, and I knew she and stevey weren't communicating, I went after the mafia first and foremost, and the result was what happened on the day when three people were voted out.

The next day, the hope was to land on the right target for the sake of just finishing the game, but we missed with Plugabugz, since we had no way of knowing who was who, and we thought it could've been Plugabugz.  That's why Mop it up guessed the way she did yesterday, believing it could've been the end of the game, and her last chance.

When we got to today, I realized we'd have a relative final stand.  The truth was, the mafia couldn't stall another day.  If they did, and did not vote off a power ranger, then there'd be no course of victorious action.  Since I knew Mop it up was close to knowing who the rangers were, early in the day, I contacted Toruresu, and later vudu and Dasmos, to let them know of their situation, numbers-wise.  The plan was basically we'd be pretty close to dead-lock in the votes, depending on how Mop it up voted, but if I knew who Rita was, I could at least get the Power Rangers to manipulate their votes to confuse Mop it up.

Instead, vudu acted too late in the day, and so the other two Power Rangers acted in solidarity, voting for Dasmos.  Mop it up saw this, and figured out that it was ThePerm, not Dasmos, the last ranger she had left to investigate (She found Sessha today, actually,) and thus, after some thinking, she came to her list, and we all lost.

Doesn't bother me, though.  It was a good game, but one that took a long time.  At the end, I'm almost glad Mop it up won, because it meant Pale lost, and I think any game Pale loses is a game won for us all.

Really, we correctly investigated only one of the Power Rangers, and that happened last night. The other two were from the process of elimination, because we'd investigated pretty much everyone else! It was essentially a 50/50 shot... I got lucky.

From where I set, it actually ended up being a pretty close game for everyone.  Things looked dire for the bad guys, but let me tell you, what Rita had planned... it was pretty devious.

i guess voting ended at 8? I was making starship troopers stuff and taking a dump, this game was lame. During the halt I was just thinking about coming out as a power ranger and ending/quiting the game because it was so boring. I was barely playing at the end. I just got the message to change my vote from thatguy..sheesh

Three people were voted out on one day, and all of them were against the Power Rangers.  Why didn't you even ask how that happened, even just to know if it was by luck or by knowledge, you didn't have fun and felt it was boring because you didn't hardly participate.  Even though we ended up on separate sides, me, Mop it up, and Toruresu had a lot of fun with the game.  It's your fault for it being boring.

Edit:  Did vudu's plan look anything like this:

I know it sounds like I'm fishing, and given the spelling problems, I probably am, but if you're Rita, you need to take a look at the numbers:

Assuming full participation of the Rangers and Zordon, unless a Ranger is voted out today, the mafia loses.  Even if it's Mop it up or a townie who's voted out, instead, the end result is still a mafia loss.

The rangers can protect themselves from one specific monster's attack each night.  Since tonight, there will only be one monster, the rangers are assured invincibility.  Since the only way to gain another monster is to convert a townie, and there's only one townie left in the game at this point, a townie absolutely cannot be voted out tonight, nor can the monster or Rita.  Any of these cases would directly result in a mafia loss, since having only one monster means no chance to kill power rangers.

Given that, one might think the proper route is to target Bulk, Mop it up, and try to get the rangers to target the same player, but this, too, is a mafia folly.  The next day, the rangers would vote out the townie, monster, or Rita once more, and prevent any chance of two monsters being in play at once.

Unfortunately, that means that the last chance for Rita is today:  A ranger must be voted out.  Additionally, that means that Rita must reveal her(him)self, in order to do that move, which seems contradictory to common sense.  The reason I'm sending this message out and helping the enemy?  I'm ready for the game to end.  If Rita is revealed, then there's a chance for the townies to win the game today, too.  It's the fastest scenario for a game over, and the only scenario for a mafia victory.  Currently, I'm the only ranger out there that's pretty widely known, so I would, in fact, recommend you target me if you are the monster or are Rita, rather than one of the other ones, since that would give Bulk an extra hint, and an extra chance for both the mafia and the townies to lose.

Have a nice day!  Also, I'm sending a slightly altered version of this message to the non-ranger people, so don't feel too special vudu, I really have no idea which of the three players is Rita.

With a "Kill Mop it up" also part of the night for Toruresu?

I'm not sure what it was, but I knew it involved killing me. So this was my last chance to get it right, which made the decision way too hard... If the Mafia had an active monster the day before, I'm sure I would have been the target then. Which wouldn't have been so bad, it'd at least save me that time I spent deliberating...

Well I was right about I think 3 of my guesses. Mop it up, Nickmitch, and Vudu. I figured  that those 3 were bad.
Toruresu eh I'm kinda upset that everybody didn't take my offer. As I said it would give Bulk and Skull more time if you voted me out and I was right.

Here was my reasons for voting for Mop it up. She wasn't really active during the day. She only came forth when she was being voted for. The reason why she wasn't really active was because she was playing online games with some people. She was deliberitly avoiding the topic. Another thing Unclebob said that night actions were to take place after the day thread was closed till the next day was put up.That gives anybody with a night action free reign to send it in whenever they want. They didn't have to participate much.

Toru it was Nickmitch that picked me. Didn't you guys notice that I kept on posting Zedds name before Rita. That was my way of telling you who turned me into a monster.

Here's where Rita could win though...

Did you remember that Rita had the special ability to disable Zordon for two days?  Voting out a Ranger would have meant no replacement would have been picked.  Tomorrow, Zordon wouldn't have been allowed to communicate, vudu and Toruresu would have gotten to vote for one of the Rangers, the two Rangers would get to vote for either vudu or Toruresu and, assuming all four of you participated, it would have left Dasmos to decide if he trusted the real rangers or the fake Rangers.

Even beyond that -  vudu could have simply sent a message to Dasmos - "Hey, we're the bad guys.  You won't win a prize as a townie - but, if you join us and vote against a Ranger, I get to pick another monster tonight and I'll pick you and then we'll win and I'll share prizes with you!"

Right, but he absolutely had to make a stand today.  Had he gone on any longer, he would've lost.  What he did after that point was of no concern to me.  I just knew we had to figure things out today, and it would be better if he and I had negotiated a bit about things earlier on in the day, so that Mop it up wouldn't wind up with the easy pickings she got from ThePerm and Sessha's move.

I just don't know if he knew it had to be today or not.  Also, I don't think he realized the main purpose I sent him that was because I didn't want to make victory easy for Mop it up.

No, on day 1 I really was distracted and not paying attention, but I can see why no one would believe that. On day 2, I wasn't home all day, so I didn't visit the site as a whole that day.

When the game restart is when Thatguy came to me asking for help, so I got pulled back into the game.

I asked Pale after our little back and forth why he was acting that way and he said he was invincible. I asked him if he could point out who Zedd and Rita were by letting me know who the power Rangers were. He said that it was on a need to know basis. Here is what I would have done if I were Zordon. I would have played normally and if there was some votes for me I would of tried to get someone else tied with me and the next day everybody would know who I was.

Blocking Zordon did three things...  It (in theory) kept him from communicating with the Rangers (or anyone else).  Obviously, I couldn't enforce this, though.  Second, he couldn't vote.  This could be handy.  Finally, he couldn't pick replacement Rangers.

Even if he did cheat and talk to the other Rangers/players, the second two things were a bite in the nads that would have hurt.  To make things more fun, I was going to tell Pale that he couldn't communicate with the players *at all* in regards to anything to do with the game.  He couldn't even reply with something like "I've been blocked, I can't talk to you." - the Rangers would have had to figure that out for themselves and, hopefully, not be expecting Pale to come in with a last second vote somewhere...

There will not be a next time.

This Mafia was way, way too overly complicated.  I like to think I added some neat twists, with the Doctor role, the way the monsters picked weaknesses, the detectives that were working only for themselves...  But it was just too much.

Then, y'all jerks had to be jerks and vote out Halbred on the first day of his first mafia game.  That was mean. ;)

Halbred wasn't voted out. He was turned into a monster, then shot by a Ranger (Thatguy claimed he did it).

So even if I didn't die, it would have been meaningless since Mop was going to let me waste my investigation on thatguy. Ugh...
To be fair, at that point I wasn't convinced Thatguy was a Ranger. I would have been happy to confirm it.

I was voted out on the first day. Not Halbred. :P

Was quite interesting to watch. Usually if I go out early I just don't pay attention much to the game until the end but I found myself checking several times a day when available to. Quite interesting with all the twists and turns and drama.

I don't think the whole game was a disaster. Just work on streamlining it a bit and cutting out a few of the more complicated parts.
