What I want to know about all these late sequels, is what takes these studios so long? Where were they in the 90's? throw a $150 million at everybody involved sometime in the decade after the last movie came out, not thirty years later!

Unfortunately, we can blame Bill Murray for that one. He outright refused to sign onto decades of proposed Ghostbusters 3 scripts, and being one of the owners of the property he had veto power over any sequels.

That's why they eventually went with the 2016 reboot, since Bill Murray couldn't veto it. It's probably also why they had a ghost kill his cameo in a particularly mean-spirited way. It's also why a lot of people have said that the Ghostbusters 360 video game is the real Ghostbusters 3, since all of the original cast were in it for the final time in a script penned by them.

If this is Ghostbusters 3, I wonder what they said to him to get him to sign off on it.

Jason Reitman says  “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ’80s happened in the ’80s, and this is set in the present day.â€

I like the Halloween 2018 approach.  It was the approach Aliens should have taken with Neil Blomkamp.

I avoid all information of movies that I know I am going to watch. I love going into it as blind as possible as it is much more fun. I know John Wick 3 is going to meet the usual standards of excellence.

They said it takes place in the same universe and the events of GB and GB2 have taken place.

Edit: dang it, forums did that stupid thing where it opened on the second to last page of the thread.

That game is the real sequel. I don't care what anyone says.

Glad that game is getting a film sequel though.  Would also like to see the cartoon formally canonized in some way.

Word going around now is that the movie will star kids, so we might be getting that Extreme Ghostbusters adaptation I wanted.

Did any of you watch that show Happy! starring Cristpoher Meloni and his imaginary friend voiced by Patton Oswalt?

If not, go check it out
What I didn't know, is that it got picked up for a S2, and it comes out this March.
I hope it has more of everything that made the first season so fun to watch.... which was iirc, pretty much everything. LOL

Well.... WTF would have put money on this happening 3 months ago....?
Aquaman is now the HIGHEST GROSSING DC MOVIE EVER - passing Batman

edit: Aquaman still doesn't come close to the Top3 of last year, but it is firmly set in that #4 spot, beating out Venom by at least $150M

I checked BOM and only found inflation numbers for US Domestic. DKR + $72k
It didn't come out that long, so Inflation isn't gonna that much higher.

But I was just looking for something to watch tonight, before I remembered The Punisher S2 came out. Ran across this show called Kingdom.

It has been 10 years so a bit past the definition of not long. US inflation since is 16.63% so you need to add that onto DK numbers. Inflation is a big reason why we are getting so many "Billion" dollar movies instead of hundreds of million, much like how we have more "Billionaires".

$100 million use to be big budget back with Titanic. Now it's sort of medium. However that has increased far more than inflation.

While significant, crossing a billion isn't quite what it seems now days. It's still said that the quality of movies has fallen that much. Honestly 2018 was a bad year.

It wouldn't surprise me if Aquaman pulled in decent numbers simply because word got out that DC made a decent film for the first time in a while, which probably got more casual viewers interested again. Definitely have to say it's hard to imagine it being THAT much of a box office powerhouse when the plot is basically Black Panther under-the-sea edition.

Considering Marvel is probably going to see a very altered cast and Black Panther is received a ton of nominations/wins, this would not a surprising phenomenon.

Aquaman is also filling a pretty large gap that Marvel's left for superhero films.  Ant-Man and the Wasp came out in July and we're still waiting on Captain Marvel in March.  It's also the first December in a while that doesn't have a Star Wars movie.  Into the Spider-verse may be the superior movie, but I think being animated hurt it a bit and it seemed to be way less marketed to me.

It's like The Rock in The Mummy Returns. They need to make it looks less like Will Smith, or make it look more like Will Smith. It's in some really weird in-between place right now.

Lets face it. Jon Favreau didn't direct this one.

This might be one of those cases where the Asylum version ends up being better. Actually, I should give them a call and be like "Look Guys I can direct a good one of these" The source material is public domain, so it should be given a go.

Better Choices for the Genie would be
Terry Cruise
Jaleel White
Isaiah Mustafa
Chris Diamantopoulos
Eddie Murphy
Jamie Foxx
Shaq
Gabriel Iglesias

Also should Aladdin be a 27 year old man? Shouldn't he be a teenager? Like 17ish. Like an Arabian Tom Holland? Then again the original tale took place in China. The hallmark version did that. I also can't help but think about how similar Aladdin and King Arthur are as stories.

edit: well im stupid. They ARE making a Mockbuster.

Someone suggested Jack Black, who would makes a great genie, but casting a white guy in the role doesn't make sense if they're going with the "has to look like the actor" route. The original was modeled after Robin Williams's face but wasn't made to actually look like him.
