Title: A dozen new Virtual Console titles for Japan announced
Post by: MegaByte on December 27, 2006, 02:09:22 AM
The January release list gives a hint of things to come.

Nintendo has posted twelve new games on their Japanese Virtual Console web page.  Each of these games will be released in January, though specific days have not yet been set.

First up are four Famicom (NES) games.  Ikki, published by Sunsoft is the only new third-party game.  Ice Climber, Hikari Shinwa: Palutena no Kagami (Kid Icarus), and The Legend of Zelda 2: Link no Bouken (The Adventure of Link) are the other three games, all of which happen to have Famicom Disk System editions.  Each game will cost 500 points.

One Super Famicom (SNES) release, Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu, is the second Fire Emblem game to be released on Japanese Virtual Console.  Players will be charged the premium price of 900 points to experience the RPG.

Nintendo 64 VC games are seemingly releasing at a rate similar to the original games, with only the second game announced for the platform, Mario Kart 64.  The popular racing game will cost 1000 points.

Two Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) titles, Bonanza Bros. and Gain Ground, will be making their way to Japanese gamers next month for a price of 600 points.  Both games are System 24 arcade ports featuring 2-player cooperative play.  Bonanza Bros. is a stealth platformer, and Gain Ground is a vaguely Contra-style action game.

Finally, four PC Engine (TG-16) games are scheduled for January with a cost of 600 points.  No surprise are Alien Crush, which is already out in the rest of the world, and R-Type II, which is the second half of the first arcade R-Type game and already included in the English version of the game.  Moto Roader, an overhead-style racing game and Soldier Blade, part of the Star Soldier shooter series, are two new Japan-only releases.

In addition, Contra Spirits was originally scheduled for a December 19th release, but has been delayed with no specific new release date.

I really want LoZ2 here.  Mostly because of the suspend feature.

am i the only one here excited by Bonanza Bros.

I played this game at least once a month at this public park that had a community fun center sort of thing to combat DRUGS AND VIOLENCE of all things, and played a lot of other Genesis games there such as Road Rash lol.

Listen up! The world needs to know:

Gain Ground and Bonanza Bros (along with all the Golden Axes, two Sonics, three Phantasy Stars, two Vectormans, three Eccos, and many many more) are available in the Sega Genesis Collection for the PS2. If you have a PS2 (and if you don't, shame on you) JUST GET THE DARN DISC for twenty bucks and don't buy these games at 8 bucks a pop on VC.

Or if you have a Gamecube (or a Wii, hurr) Sonic Mega Collection has every Sonic related Genesis game, plus Flicky, Ristar, and depending on where you are, Comix Zone and The Ooze. Sonic Gems Collection features both Vectorman titles.

Wow Nintendo is being bastardy in Japan.
They really did release R-Type in it's original two part form.

That's because the original TG16 games came in 2 parts in Japan, but when they brought it to North America they had managed to get it on 1 Hu-Card. Nintendo said the games would be exactly like the originals, and so far they have done just that (for better or worse).

Sigh, Japan has a kick-ass VC line-up and is continuing to improve. We still haven't even gotten Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario World here.

I hear you Nintendogamecube86, Japan does have some nice stuff that we don't.

Well I hope someday they give us the Fire Emblem games, at least.

capcom needs to dish out super low priced megaman games, the collection is out, but they could still release 2 dollar games and make hugenumbous profits
