Considering that their is a single player mode there will be story associated with it.  How full of story is still shrouded in mystery, and I'm not expecting to hear anything about it until shortly before it release since they are pushing the multiplayer aspect of the game.

There is but im worried it will take a back seat to the multiplayer.  Or be something like unreal tournament where the single player mode is just multiplayer against the computer with a little bit of story behing it.  Hopefully this is not the case.

From what I gather the story in first hunt is kind of a prequel to the story mode for metroid hunters.

Probably the reason we havent heard a lot about the story mode is that Nintendo has been concentrating their metroid efforts on multiplayer so that it will be ready for First Hunt at the DS launch

Ugh.  Remember several years ago when a lot of us were freaking out about Metroid turning into an FPS?  Of course things turned out alright for Metroid Prime but that "fear" is still present for me when people start suggesting making Metroid similar to Quake as if that's a good thing.

I see all these comparisons between the touchscreen controls and mouse aiming, and talk of Samus fighting in tournaments, and Metroid Prime Hunters is starting to sound like the very game we were all afraid Retro would make only ironically it's not being made by Retro.  And everyone is getting excited about this as if making a generic FPS and throwing Samus in it is a good idea.

If MP: Hunters is in fact just a generic FPS with the Metroid franchise thrown in (and with touchscreen controls) I'm going to be very disappointed in Nintendo.  The single player better play like a REAL Metroid game.  If they're going to just make a "Halo killer" then they should make it something brand new instead of tainting Metroid's legacy with an unrelated game.

The fact that the morphball(and in turn, puzzles) again will prove important in Hunters leads me to believe that won't happen...

I'm thinking a mix of exploration and arena(as in enemies in a large field) combat...

you know something, I like the idea of a metroid FPS.  All these years we've been told that Samus is this bad ass bounty hunter and I have yet to once get some bounty.  I've been running around doing the federations dirty work clearing out metroids and preforming genocide on space pirates.  Let me collect my bounty.  Let me and Ridley duke it out for the big bucks on some million dollar sleeze.  I really am surprised that nintendo hasn't capitalized on the fact that samus is a bounty hunter.  I've seen falcon collect more money than samus.

How about this for a Metroid FPS Adventure.

Each level is a different bounty.  You must explore the world.  Find clues to whom you are hunting and how to find him.  In the process you are fighting gangsters, and stopping other crime in the city.

The world and societies would be fantasy cyberpunk, with intelligent creatures/monsters (similar to space pirate designs) within the games.

Each level or case would be on a new planet, and a few later ones may revist locations.  As you explore to get ungrades you must enhance your suit.  When money at a arena battle pit will help you enhance your suit allowing you more access to the worlds and to finally solve the case.

Boss battles will be huge arena battles against these bounties.  I would love this game so much and would round Samus out so much.

Its frickin genocide.  I'm surprised no one has scene the fact that samus is commiting genocide.  While its the best genocide in video game history, its still genocide.  I don't care about the federation paying her between games, I want my money in game.  I want to play a game as samus in between federation missions.

If you've played all the other Metroid games, then you have already been playing in between missions.

All kidding aside, I know what you mean.  I don't think it'll be a good idea though, because to me, this will be like Metroid Fusion in a way.  I hated having to report to the computer every 10 minutes.  I'm taking into account that you've already finished the game, are on your second or third time through, and already know where to go.

If I have to report to the Federation everytime I accomplished a mission,  this would be the shizts because it would take time out of playing.  I disliked the reading parts in Fusion, especially after I already know what I am supposed to do, and the game designers didn't think think ahead far enough to allow the player to skip the text.

You know what would have been better?

If they really wanted a Metroid with multiplayer, this is how I would have handled it.

The single player would be a standard Metroid game. You play as Samus, blah blah, they give you tons of control schemes, and everyone is happy.

Now with the FPS multiplayer, I would dump Samus out of the picture and focus on the rest of world of Metroid. You pick which race you want, Humans (Galactic Federation soldiers) or Space Pirates. Maybe even throw in more races if time permitted (Chozo, Luminoth, Ing). The Humans/Pirates thing is actually a lot like how the Human/Elites work in Halo. Anyway the humans would have their own weapons, different types of soldiers to choose, their own vehicles, etc. Same for Space Pirates. The game would play like an FPS. Tons of options for customizing your multiplayer game. Imagine an 8 on 8 LAN mayhem humans vs. pirates game, anywhere you want. Say, after school before [band, football, whatever] practice starts. And you wouldn't have all the crazy "hardcore" fans screaming about desecrating the Samus legacy stuff.

I hope FPS's become common. I'd love to play Timesplitters, Halo, Unreal, or whatever in random places when I'm bored. And Halo is entirely possible since Microsoft has no problem in having its games on GBA, and if Bungie is like ever other developer they will probably go nuts at being able to make games for the DS.

Just because Microsoft has allowed Jet Grind Radio and Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee on GBA doesn't mean Microsoft would allow Halo to appear on the DS.  I think Microsoft might think twice before allowing their only major franchise on another system.

i just recently got into the metroid series with metroid prime. and i think i have a great idea for the franchise. Assuming next gen consoles will all be online and have built-in hard drives, metroid would make a good MMO (minus the multiplayer) for instance after you beat a planet (like talon) you then get back into your space ship, what's it called? and you fly on to your next mission. while flying to a new planet your GC2 would be downloading the content of your next adventure. It is unreasonable to assume that this would be free, but i think it would be alot less expensive than producing and distributing game software on CDs/DVDs. perhaps while flying in space you could meet other people say orbiting a planet and you could exchange game data/ meet up for multiplayer co-op? Also not on the same subject but i personaly would like the ability to play 3rd person i.e. zelda or mario. or is samus' character to tall for it to be efficient?  sorry for the rambling but i have no life, and it's my birthday so leave me alone   :-D

The kind of game Metroid is would make a 3rd person adventure very frustrating and annoying...What Retro has done with the morphball and screw attack is by far the only 3rd person a 3d Metroid needs...

I don't know about you guys.  But I CAN'T Play games in the third person.  To play in the third person, I'd need a.... I think...a camera and another TV.

I can play games in third person.  As long as the camera is intuitive and player controlable 3rd person is good.
