SPOGS racing crosses the finish line to WiiWare and King of the Monsters smashes onto the Virtual Console.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=16284

This week's Virtual Console and WiiWare release brings us, for the fourth week in a row, a new Neo Geo title as well as a brand new WiiWare entry, a racer from D2C Games.

SPOGS Racing, this week's WiiWare entry, features classic arcade racing with simple pick-up-and-play controls. Players can gain new parts for their SPOG (Sports Player Object Gyros) on the fly with the featured Crash N' Grab system. Players simply need to drive close to opposing racers and they can snatch brand new parts from their opponents for their SPOG. SPOGS Racing will also feature future downloadable content in the vein of new racers, modes, and tracks. SPOGS Racing is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB and is currently available through the Wii Shop Channel for 1,000 Wii Points.

King of the Monsters for the Neo Geo is a fighting game, pitting giant monsters against one another in Japanese cityscapes. Players can choose between six monsters and various Japanese cities and battle until a three-count pin. A variety of moves are at the players disposal including the standard punch, kick, and throw maneuvers as well as special maneuvers such as fire breath and laser shooting. Players are able to fight versus the computer or a friend in a 1v1 match or tag team style 2v2. King of the Monsters is rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older by the ESRB and is currently available through the Wii Shop Channel for 900 Wii Points.

WII-KLY UPDATE: ONE WIIWARE GAME AND ONE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

July 7, 2008 - This week's additions to the Wii™ Shop Channel are bigger, stronger and faster. It's all about excess with these electrifying titles. A new WiiWare™ offering puts you behind the wheel of a high-octane racer with no regard for speed limits. A classic Virtual Console™ game transforms you into a larger-than-life beast with a massive appetite for mayhem. Whichever you choose, there will be no skimping on the action.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

SPOGS Racing™ (D2C Games™, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone-Mild Cartoon Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Coming at you full throttle is SPOGS Racing, an all-new racer from D2C Games featuring classic arcade racing, pick-up-and-play controls, all-new racing vehicles and Crash N' Grab™ instant upgrades. Jump in, gear up and modify your ride on the fly as you compete head-to-head for a totally outrageous arcade racing experience on your Wii console. Whether you're a casual gamer or hardcore racer, SPOGS Racing features fun for all and is a must-have download for your WiiWare digital game library.

Virtual Console

KING OF THE MONSTERS (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older-Fantasy Violence, 900 Wii Points): Released by SNK in 1991, KING OF THE MONSTERS is an action/fighting game that features city-destroying battles between huge monsters. Choose one of six monsters and travel around Japan, stopping to fight in various famous cities with the aim of becoming the ultimate winner. In addition to punches, kicks and other regular moves, each character has the ability to use more devastating maneuvers, like throwing flames and shooting laser beams, to defeat opponents. Wrestling elements are also incorporated, as you must completely exhaust your opponent and get a three-count to pin him and be victorious. Along with the player-versus-computer game, multiplayer options allow you and a friend to enjoy one-on-one matches and two-on-two tag-team matches against the computer. Take on the challenge and claim the title of King of the Monsters.

King of the Fighters... I wouldn't mind seeing a game like that.

As for SPOGS, I'm eager to check that out since I like racing games.

Video for SPOGS on their website. http://www.spogsracing.com/

It seems pretty bland looking, but it is WiiWare. In terms of game play, I'd give it a 60% of being okay.

SPOGS looks interesting although it could either be really cool or awful.
60% seems about right...

King of the Monsters is an old favorite of mine. If only NeoGeo games worked on my TV without my having to switch component for composite. That's kind of a pain in the ass, so my enthusiasm for picking up KotM is dampened because of it.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

SNK Arcade Classics: Volume 1 for Wii releases this week on PS2 and for some retarded reason the 22nd on Wii for $30.

it currently has EVERY SINGLE NEO GEO game released on virtual console a a few more I think.

I guess they are in a rush to get them all out of VC for the foolish to buy before the collection is released. Considering the fact that the games are $9, and take up a ton of room on Wii if your a fan of Neo Geo you should serious consider this.

the other game seems MEH.

Why didn't they release Super Mario RPG yet? Come on now I know they love Japan but this is really pissing me off why release quality games and give us garbage, or few games every week.

Thanks for the heads up Adolpf, I knew it was coming soon but not this soon! I'll have to pick it up for PS2 because the Wii version is $10 more which makes zero sense.

You know what? Thinking of racing games now, I'd really like to see Uniracers (SNES) on the VC. My brother had that game and it was awesome! We need that.
