General Gaming / RE: Ubi Soft being bought out?
« on: May 27, 2005, 09:54:39 PM »
A Beyond Good and Evil sequel probably isn't coming either way..

But seriously, if the next gen games are going to require an average of a 100 workers per title, only the ginormous publishers will be able to put out more than two or three games a year.

I just get nervous of Microsoft getting cocky and buying EA.

Penny Arcade deals with a similar problem

Just kidding, yeah it would make sense for nintendo to include an ethernet port, but I'm not too worried if they don't.

If you're already managing a five node network, I don't think nintendo is going to over complicate things for you here.

And I doubt the Revolution will display on your laptop, unless it has some video capture capabilities. That's just not how it works.

Nemo, what you need is something like this http://dlink.com/products/?pid=316 It's a 4+1 router with wireless capability, certified for Wifi and Xbox live, Dlink sells it for $54US (they make models with more rj45 ports too)

I honestly expect Wifi to become ubiquitous in the next couple of years, consumer networking is trending that way.

I think we should all chip in and buy Ian a wireless router just to take away his something to complain about.

And supporting a usb ethernet device is a little more complicated than just flipping a switch; you have to have drivers to interface with the various usb NIC's chipsets, or the Revolution won't see them.

Steel Magnolias: the Video Game will rule us all!

Isn't it odd that all these new Movie tie-ins are movies from the 70s? Why is that? Were the 80's and 90's films already hooked into license agreements?

But, but...  I liked the Mini Gamecube Discs...

Something tells me Microsoft is gonna have the physically biggest console yet again this generation.

BTW, isn't there already a Pacman Pinball for the GBA?

Maybe this will explain what Nintendo meant by calling the DS a third Pillar. Gameboy, aka Pillar numero two, is forging on ahead on it's own path.  A thoroughly saturated PS2 market didn't stop Sony from coming out with the PSTwo. Let's all cry "Oh noes, Sony is teh d00med-ded!"

Reggie better push this product like Hootie pushes Bacon-Cheddar-Ranch Burgers.

Ads everywhere, promotions everywhere, this is perfect for the casual non-gamer.

Two-page advertisement in Good Housekeeping magazine maybe?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Hardcore Moms?
« on: April 26, 2005, 03:55:30 PM »
Hmm this gets me to thinking, what Nintendo should do is make some of their small and simple games available for free on this upcoming Revolution WiFi network (which may or may not be on the Internet, right Ian?)

For little extra cost to Nintendo, everyone, including Mom, can play Dr. Mario anytime they want, which equals more time with the controller in hand, which equals mindshare!

Or something like that, I donno.

You know, a year or so from now I could see a million in North America, I think this will turn into one of those slow-but-steady sellers that is seen in the Gamecube Market.

You gotta give Jack in the Box props for good TV commercials. Their "president" jack is consistently entertaining.

My Guess is that the Nintendo PR people don't like to use the term online because Iwata has dismissed online in the recent past.  So they say WiFi so it doesn't look like they are conflicting "Online is bad." "Online is good."

It's all kind of a silly word spinning exercise..

I was  hoping RE4 would top a million US, but doesn't seem likely.  I'm just afraid 2006 is going to be a bleak year for the gamecube until the Revolution comes. Of course, It will probably be a meager release year for all 3 consoles of this gen.

Gonna have to get myself a DS to tide things over methinks..

IIRC, Most first run theatres in the US lease the movie from the distributor rather than own it.  Now theatres that show old movies I believe can own the reel.

More Elegant Solution than how the Japanese did it I think.

TalkBack / RE: BLAH BLAH BLAH: GameCube 64
« on: April 05, 2005, 03:59:35 PM »
Actually, I believe the reason Xbox outsold the PS/2 in was more due to the fact the Sony had a shortage of consoles.

IIRC, the numbers were PS2 694k, Xbox 719k, and Gamecube 350k. Can anyone verify?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Top gamecube co-op games?
« on: March 16, 2005, 09:04:26 PM »
You want gamecube games where you and 3 other buddies can run around beating things up?

Three recommendations

Gauntlet Dark Legacy: Arcade beat em up fun with lots of powerups

Xmen Legends: Solid game with just a smidge of character building, just finished playing through co-op with a buddy

Hunter: Dark Legacy: Horror themed hack and slash, not as good as the other two, but still a blast.

Actually, I believe that is the red spot from the 7up cans, not a piece of candy.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Let's Talk Controller
« on: January 22, 2005, 10:35:31 PM »
You know what I would like added to a controller? A scroll wheel, like off of a mouse. Maybe put it where the Z button is. So instead of having to use the directional pad to go through inventory, you can use the much easier wheel.

And I'm sure Miyamoto would find clever new uses for it as well.
