Nintendo has bias against it and I wonder if it is insurmountable.

It sometimes feels like the Revolution could turn out to be a $99 Star Trek quality Holo Deck with GTA and Halo exclusive and the mainstream gaming media would still bad mouth it and favor the competition

well, the d pad replaced the joystick and it took some getting used to the first time I played it. Everyone was used to the arcade joysticks and the atari 2600 sticks.

Super Mario kept sliding around, and I thought "I wish this was a joystick!"

wouldn't that require letting off the accelerator (A) to fire? Although I guess the go button could be moved to a squeezable handle..

I haven't gotten that far in Prime yet, I'm stuck on the giant plant boss with the  sun beam dishes

Well, the 2nd analog stick is overwhelmingly used only as a camera stick or FPS aiming on Xbox and PS2 as well. Both have duplicate sticks and it's still lousy, IMO.

I can only think of 4 games off the top of my head that had alternate functions for the C stick:
Star Fox Adv: menu system (wasn't that great)
Pikmin: rounding up your pikmin
Luigi's Mansion: aiming the vacuum
Obi Wan for the Xbox: dynamic swinging of your light saber

So what does everyone think it's going to take to please the 3rd parties and mainstream players?

I would guess 8 buttons (or button-like) and two directional inputs. Most games would be fine with 6 buttons.

The big question is, where do you fit them? the right side gets crowded with more than 4 buttons, IMO. 4 triggers are probably the best way to go, although it's a bit of a compromise, not too mention a little confusing unless they are distinct (not the like PS2 controllers)

I think an analog control pad could narrow the left side of the controller down to one place to put your thumb.

Hmm, I agree with making the controller simpler, the trick is to still include a lot functionality .

Here's my shot at a rev controller, figure I better get it out there before the real one is revealed.

The idea was to have the main part of the controller be able to flip over so it could be  either  buttons or a control pad on either side.

Sony and Microsoft have spies, everywhere, duh

I would imagine we will get a legit leak before the end of summer now that third parties have seen it.

yeah, I think a customizable controller is what they are gonna do, but how? I have no idea. Nintendo likes durable, so I can't imagine a whole bunch of moving parts.

Maybe it will be something like this:

PS2 Phoenix Revolution Controller

The reason Microsoft is requiring HD support in their games is they want to force everyone over to HD TVs.

Why? so you can read your email on a Television and the text won't look fuzzy. That way, Microsoft can sell you the hardware and the software that you use to get on the internet and do your computing. The Xbox losing billions is done so Microsoft can establish domination in the living room.

Come on, the non-game-slash-mini-game has a fine tradition at Nintendo. Duck Hunt probably sold people on the NES just as much as Super Mario Bros did. My mom and dad didn't play video games, but they gave Duck Hunt a try.

I don't know if this is happening at every Walmart, or just one of our local ones, but  I just picked up a Standard Indigo Gamecube Controller on clearance for $7.00 (US) regularly $19.82

Okay, I don't know if this has been brought up yet But Nintendo did "confirm" High-Def right before E3
http://www.planetgamecube.com/news.cfm?action=item&id=6255

Unlike GameCube, the new system will play DVD's, Ms. Kaplan said, and will feature a wireless controller. It will play GameCube games as well as a new class of high-definition games, with new emphasis on online play.

From Perrin's mouth herself! I really get the feeling that Perrin Kaplan has no idea at ALL about the products she promotes..

Okay, now according to this official PDF http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/data/pdf/fy2005b.pdf  RE4 sold 660,000 units in North America, with a total of 1.23 mil worldwide. 160k is quite a number discrepancy. Or maybe it's 500 thou in USA and 160 thou in Canada?

How come people never have these kinds of complaints about Halo? In my opinion wasn't any fun unless you had 3 other people to play with as well, which takes at least 2 Xboxes, 2 TVs.

I liked FF:CC but it had a lot of depth and sidequests you wouldn't even know about unless you read a FAQ

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Rev in Nov. Wha?
« on: May 27, 2005, 10:15:54 PM »
Well, before the pre-E3 press conference everyone expected Sony to launch the PS3 in Q4 06, I'm guessing Nintendo thought that too.

Then Microsoft starts hyping the Xbox-360 (which feels rushed by the way, like the DS felt rushed) and Sony got nervous and blurted out "Spring 2006!" Now Microsoft is scrambling and  Sony is scrambling cause I'm guessing they got a lot of work to do before launch, and what should Nintendo do? Scramble as well? Miyamoto doesn't scramble.

In my opinion, it all depends on how well the Xbox 360 sells for Christmas this year (I'm betting MS will have a "shortage" to drive up hype and get mentioned on the news.) If it sells well, then the market is ready for Next Gen and Nintendo should worry. If it bombs, or is even Mediocre, then I bet Sony delays their spring '06 Launch and Nintendo can breathe a little easier.

I think SK wanted to triple their budget, and Nintendo said "You're not worth it."
