TalkBack / RE: Revolution
« on: December 09, 2005, 02:48:55 PM »
I call BS on being easy to port to. I'd think going from one system to one a half or a third as powerful as the rest won't be easy. Third parties developed for the lowest common denominator with the PS2. But with Nintendo, and a system so much weaker than the rest, I don't see that happening. And, there do seem to be quite a few smaller game developers releasing games on Live Arcade.

TalkBack / RE: Revolution Controller Still Has Secrets

Of course they say it has secrets. They don't want to let the hype die down amongst Nintendo fans. It's probably the shell that makes it like a traditional controller though. Either that, or that extra controllers will cost $30 or less. That would be nice.

Why is Wario Stadium new? That was like the best course on Mario Kart 64. And no WEP is even worse, of course. Hopefully, Nintendo will hire some experts when designing Revolution online.

Some one would need to like...sit outside of your house scanning your network for a few days in order to crack your code. Just keep a look out for white cargo vans every couple days or so, then you'll be fine. I don't know much about your arch nemesis, but I doubt they will target your network when they can easily target any of the other 5 million unsecured networks within a 1 mile radius. If you have a problem with hackers hanging out on your front porch, just use MAC filtering.

Few days? Make that a few minutes. (Ignore the april first date. This is legit, look at the Tom's Networking site.) There are step by step tutorials on how to crack WEP. MAC filtering is also a very weak form of protection, as someone can just clone your MAC address. WEP does make you a less appealing target though. Many people will probably just go to one of the numerous other connections that's not encrypted at all. Still, relying on that is not very secure at all.

No WPA? Screw you, Nintendo. Will you be liable when someone hacks into my network and gets all my information? Will you do that for everyone?

They better support WPA. I'm getting really worried that they won't. And I hope they at least have some form of webbrowser, so I can log in to the network on campus. It needs SSL encryption support as well then. I'm very pessimistic that they'll implament either though.

I still don't know if I'll pick this up. I don't really like the 3D Metroids for some reason, which is funny, because I do like the 3D Sonics. And I've grown acustomed to dual analogue.

I have never heard of "smurfs" in matchmaking before. Of course, the biggest experience I've had with matchmaking is Halo 2. People cheating is a HUUUGE problem, and I hope Nintendo takes steps to make the system as unhackable as they can. I have experienced people on my team suiciding so they can rank down to face easier opponents, which really pissed me off.

I'd rather have something like a live service. Where you have one name in all games, and you can add people to your friends list by their name. Hopefully, there can be a universal name as well as game nicknames, and you can choose which to display.
And I don't like him mentioning WEP. It NEEDS WAP. He mentioned playing at work (silly itself) which would probably need WAP, so hopefully they realize that.

Also, from the article:

Then if you have a friend with whom you can't meet personally but want to add to your buddy-list, there's of course a way to do that online.

You put Nintendo was planning to release Twilight Princess worldwide by the end of 2004. I think you meant 2005.

Also, since there's no screenshot talkback, why does PGC put their logo on the screenshots? As well as a lot of other gaming sites? You guys did not make the screenshots, you didn't even take them yourselves. You got them from Nintendo. Do you have some special premission to put your logo on it while displaying it?

Mine took a while. It hung after the progress bar filled. But the connection times were weird. The first was like 2350 MS or something like that. The rest were "-". And it didn't get my UPNP stuff.

You probably have to be a sage

A:
Sages are hand-picked by Nintendo. There is no formula for becoming a Sage. To be considered, you should participate regularly in Nintendo's official online forums, or in Nintendo Power chat, offer intelligent, constructive commentary, be an upstanding member of the community, and you may be invited to be a Sage.

Hopefully this will be like armageddon or world party, and not blast or something like that. And it should be like advance wars, where you can pass the DS around for multiplayer on one system. I'd surely get that.

Does this allow it to use avc? Can I use Nero Recode to encode it? Would I have to use the mobile or portable profile or something?

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw PD0 on the DS. Remember the rumors about the DS and PSP hooking up to the Xbox 360 to play Microsoft games online or some other connectivety thing?
