Ask me about E3 2007.

My every answer: Despair.

On a side note, Melee is NOT one of the games, meaning that game's run in the tournament scene is finally over.

No, there will still be plenty of big tournaments that feature Melee. And there will always be a scene for it, just like every old popular game. And it will be at Evo as a side tournament. It just won't be featured on the main stage anymore.

Podcast Discussion / Special: NWR Book Interview with Steven Rodriguez
« on: December 07, 2016, 05:08:17 PM »

Hear the full story of how trivia guru "WindyMan" went from answering a competitor's mailbag to becoming Nintendo World Report's leader during Wii launch mania and a prolonged website redesign.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/43736/special-nwr-book-interview-with-steven-rodriguez

Welcome to a series of special podcasts, hosted by your friends at Radio Free Nintendo. Former podcast host and website director Jonathan Metts is sharing his extensive interviews with current and former staff members from Nintendo World Report [the very site you are now reading, which is also still widely known as Planet GameCube (which is one of the long-term prices we've had to pay for the privilege of changing our name at the peak of our popularity).] These interviews are part of his research for an upcoming book about the long-running website, focusing on its vast array of dedicated, all-volunteer creators. This paragraph is painfully thorough because I want to reuse it for each subsequent release from this series, which is planned to continue throughout 2016 (and now 2017)!

This interview features Steven Rodriguez, also known as "WindyMan". It's the first book interview with a Director, the highest position at our website. Steven took over for myself in late 2006 and was replaced in early 2009, so we get into lots of details about everything happening around that time, including the Wii launch, redesigning our site as Nintendo World Report, and even the 2008 financial crisis. Other stories include Steven's early days at Nintendo Nation, becoming Planet GameCube's trivia guru, serving up scoops as News Editor, testing games for THQ, and covering the infamous E3 2007 -- solo!

If you haven't already, subscribe to Radio Free Nintendo with the links above to automatically receive all upcoming interviews in this series.

I must protest the last part of this podcast due to a gross omission on the 1/10 reviews.

Charlie's Angels for the GameCube, may we never forget.

I'd be shocked if they didn't at least pull a Twilight Princess on it.  I mean, given the timing, it would seem kinda crazy to me that they'd limit the install base by the Wii U's.  At worst, maybe it's a game that comes out on NX in the future as a digital download option.

It's coming out on Wii U. Let's end the charade that it isn't.

Let's dispel once and for all with the fiction that Nintendo doesn't know what it's doing, it knows exactly what it is doing. The new Zelda game is going to come out for the Wii U and NX, just like Twilight Princess came out for GameCube and Wii.

The only question is whether or not Nintendo will push the game as the last must-have Wii U game or the first must-have NX game. After it became obvious the the GameCube was kaput, Nintendo positioned Twilight Princess as a Wii launch title and basically ignored the GameCube version when marketing it. I'm sure questions will be answered at E3, but it seems to me that the writing is on the wall at this point.

Losing the Wii Remote controls is a BIG negative because it's why the Wii version was so much better than the GameCube version. I think they should have based it off the superior Wii version.

This is my big dilemma at the moment. I don't think people fully appreciate how integral the pointer controls were to the Wii version and how much it elevated the game. Being able to use the bow and arrow as fluidly as the sword opened my eyes, big time. Not having that on the Wii U HD remake is giving me pause as to whether or not I want to buy it.

Thing is, I desperately want to go back to Twilight Princess. It was the ultimate Zelda game for me. I was so thoroughly satisfied with everything about it—the scale, the combat, the controls, the hard bonus dungeons, etc.—that I didn't feel the need to pick up Skyward Sword. Why play another Zelda game when I had already played the Zelda game, you know?

I could always go back and get the Wii version again, but I'd love to see it in HD. Too bad I can't get it all on the Wii U.

TalkBack / Re: Newest Smash Brothers DLC Character Announced
« on: November 12, 2015, 07:20:54 PM »
I'm freaking out about this, guys. Really freaking out. Having never really got into FF7 as much as most people did back in the day, I'm not freaking out about this because Cloud is going to be a playable character in Smash. I'm freaking out about this because all of the bad history between Nintendo and Square (Enix) regarding that game, about that character — history which completely altered the trajectory of the entire industry — is suddenly a part of the compendium of Nintendo history which we know as Super Smash Bros.

I can't even. I can't even even. I just…can't.

In this context, Sonic being in Brawl was a mind-blower for me. Cloud being in Smash 4 is a world-ender.

Holy ****, I just realised that means a Cloud amiibo will be made...

End of the World, Exhibit A.

I recently picked up Twilight Princess for the Wii again, but haven't really had the time or motivation to sink my teeth back into it. I want to, so bad.

It was such a complete experience for me, with the motion/pointer controls and the utter scope of the game at the time. Of the kind where when Skyword Sword came out, I was like, "why do I need to play another Zelda game? We're done here." For me, it was the ultimate, and I want to see how much of it holds up today.

What I'm trying to say is, hurry up with Twilght Princess HD for Wii U, Nintendo. (And Zelda Wii U.)

At this rate, I'll be playing as Shovel Knight in two other games before I play as Shovel Knight in Shovel Knight.

Reminds me of the Capcom "exclusives" for the GameCube.

At least we got Resident Evil 4 out of that. (And this.)

Finally got a Wii U. You know what you are doing.
