This week's show features tons of games, hot topics, a fat stack of emails, and a special announcement that you don't want to miss.

This feature-rich podcast starts off with a smattering of impressions for Rhythm Thief, Metal Slug 3, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, NHL '94 Online, Tales of the Abyss, and Xenoblade Chronicles. We also spend part of New Business going over some current issues in video gaming. And all that is probably the least interesting stuff you'll get out of this episode.
We return to Listener Mail this week, and the bag goes deep as we've had an overabundance of fantastic emails; it may take a while to catch up with all the best ones, but here's a sampling of five to get us started. We cover topics such as StreetPass gluttony, Mario revisiting SubCon, the downsides of Nintendo's new digital release strategy, how to continue gaming in a foreign land, and the unsung majesty/absurdity of Pandora's Tower. Keep 'em coming, please!
We finally end with a very special announcement that you'll definitely want to hear. More next week!
I have a larger response to make, but to Ceric's question, Guillaume is in Canada. So no, all of RFN is not in "the States."All in NoA territory. Nice to have an Active Canadian. *whistle*
(For what it's worth, I've got a warning tale on what happens when you lose a 3DS, but I'll save that for Listener Mail...)
We finally end with a very special announcement that you'll definitely want to hear.
Farewell Greg; you are awesome. Good luck in the future.
I've wondered for years why EA hasn't done a remix NHL 94 with 20XX players... especially for the Wii. The Wii is the first Nintendo console in 20+ years of console ownership for which I didn't buy a hockey game.
NES= Ice Hockey and Blades of Steel (and got a Rom in 1999 or so of the Technos Japan hockey game)
SNES= NHL 94 and 96 (later 95 and NHLPA on the cheap)
N64= Wayne Gretzky's 3d Hockey '98 and NHL 99
GCN= NHL 2003
PC= NHL Hockey (first year... 1992 maybe?) NHL 97 and NHL 2001
I would LOVE it if EA did a 2D/ Sprite based hockey game again. I'd gladly pay for a fully featured (season/manager/owner mode) game. I've long felt that the transition from 2d to 3d took a lot of fun out of hockey games.
Or a good download service with online play and tourney support. I mean think about the league that Lindy is in. I good base infrastructure and you could buy the base game then just year packs, because people just want roster updates not mechanic changes.Farewell Greg; you are awesome. Good luck in the future.

My assumption is that the market for such a game would be so incredibly small that EA wouldn't think it would be worth their time.
The only place I could see it working well would maybe be on cellphones.
I doubt that NHL Hits or any of the NHL 2K games on Wii really improved the bottom lines of any publisher.Farewell Greg; you are awesome. Good luck in the future.
