There aren't too many of them. If Nintendo actually made more 2D games for GameCube I would get them.  I don't think we should worry too much about the future of 2D games. If the industry heads in a direction that goes without 2D, there is not much we can do. I guess I would miss sprites, but I already have some of the best 2D games on the NES line, and also on GameBoy. I also don't think 2D gaming will get any better than Viewtiful Joe and Symphony of the Night.

Call of Duty is great, judging from the demo, and I am going to get it.

It was early in development. Metroid Prime did not look that good in the first shots either.

It was Denis Dyack. He could log in as that user and pretend to be someone from GameFaqs. Pretty good disguise while he read the SK/Nintendo theories.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How to access Gamecube options?
« on: May 09, 2004, 05:54:11 PM »
This is slightly off of the topic, but I hate consoles having "boot" screens. It used to be all you had to wait for was the licensing screens, but now, you have this sequence that cannot be skipped. When I got my Playstation, the reset button gave me dread since I knew it would actually takes less time to just lose, rather than waiting for the boot up sequence, and then waiting for the load times. I noticed some GameCube games let you reset, and just return you to the game's start, so you don't have to wait for the screen, but I still don't like the idea of a boot screen. I do know that the Game Boy has always had a Game Boy screen at the beginning, but I've always been a bigger fan of Nintendo's home consoles.(Which could change.)

Nintendo did make it so third parties would not be charged royalties if they made online GameCube games. It was a good plan, but with Nintendo limiting supplies of online adaptors, and not saying very many positive things of online play has scared away the third parties. Except for Sega.

I did have Island in mind, since I have never played Story. Yoshi's Island was pretty good, and the GameCube could take the pastel sprite graphics of Island, to new heights.

This may seem stupid, but you saw it at IGN? It has been spreading like wildfire on the internet, and I wasn't sure if someone made it up. I wish someone had some proof, like a screen-capture. It would be too easy to say, "this is what Matt posted, but it was deleted!"

General Gaming / RE:Theory about $129 X-Box

They are already at $180 for the core PS2 system and $200 for the network bundle. Going to $129 would ignite sales, and I think Sony might go for that price.

A new Yoshi game is coming? Are you sure about that? That would be awesome.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Grand Theft Auto Games Coming to GameCube
« on: May 07, 2004, 01:00:27 PM »
Anyway, back on topic, it would be pretty cool to have Rockstar's support again on GameCube. I enjoyed Smuggler's Run:Warzones a lot, and I haven't heard any news of a new one, on any system. I might rent San Andreas if it came out for the GameCube magically, but at least with Rockstar, they advertise a lot and they don't seem to wait too long to port their games, like Manhunt, to other systems, so they would be an important third-party for the GameCube. As opposed to Konami, who doesn't do much for the development of Twin Snakes, and doesn't bother to advertise it themselves in the U.S., and will still wonder why it did not sell well.

I was talking about this GTA thread where a lot of PGCer's were agreeing that GTA was overrated, and you, Mouse Clicker, said that all the thread amounted to was a "GTA bash" and nothing more, even though we listed legimate problems with the game, and most of us actually owned the game. You seemed to be ultra-defensive in that thread, even though most of us said the game was good, but flawed. Surprisingly, the thread did not turn into a flame-war, and it was pretty interesting. But anyway, that's what I was talking about. I thought when Bill mentioned his dislike for the game, I thought you would have responded.

Yeah sure, it has all that crap, but does it look better? In my opinion, no.

You need glasses, or something- maybe it's your PAL format. I can't possibly understand someone thinking Twin Snakes doesn't look any better than MGS2- I was blown away by some of the textures, to be honest. I quite literally played Twin Snakes and Sons of Liberty back to back, too, and TS looks at least as good, no acceptions.

My friend and I were arguing for hours about Twin Snakes, mostly about the visual part. He said that Silicon Knights wasn't as good with graphics as some other GameCube developers, and I strongly disagreed.

I guess this guy has inside sources.  Anyway, a GTA game will be on GBA, but that's it for now. And watch out Bill, Mouse Clicker gets pretty angry when you even start to question the GTA series.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Zelda for NDS confirmed! Awesome...
« on: May 06, 2004, 08:49:30 PM »
Dang, the game that finally made me buy a GameBoy Color was Zelda DX. As much as I like other games, Zelda is the series that I enjoy and respect, since each game always offers something worthwhile, and usually is so much fun. I don't know how many times I have replayed Ocarina or Link to the Past, but it sure is a lot. With the DS, Nintendo can take Zelda in so many new directions. Sure, you could bump-map Link's clothing, or maybe make the Master Sword look better, but how long does that last? With the DS, I think Zelda's "Zeldaness" will only be better. I know I could have used two screens for Link to the Past.

General Gaming / Theory about $129 X-Box
« on: May 06, 2004, 08:40:03 PM »
I have read many times that Sony will cut the PS2 to $129 after E3, which seems possible. Which would mean Microsoft would be forced to slash the X-Box price even more to match this price, since they would have no choice but to follow Sony. So, does my theory seem realistic, or am I just too hopeful? I do hope the X-Box goes to this price, since Ninja Gaiden seems pretty good, and the X-Box has many third-party games that are not on GameCube.

18
I guess that is true. At least with Warp Pipe, you could go online long after the GameCube was discontinued, provided you could find other players. That is why peer to peer seems to be a natural choice. I can still play so many older PC games online, such as UT and even Doom 2! It will be interesting to see if Microsoft and Sony maintain a service for the PS2 and X-Box, when the X-Box 2 and PS3 are released.

19
Remember when Iwata said that users should not be charged online game fees? I still don't see Nintendo going online this generation, but two years will not be a long wait, for SSBM online. Wait, a second, yes it is! Right now it's disappointing that Nintendo did not go online, but the N5 will be online, so perhaps I could save a few Falcon Punches for you rowdy PGCers!

20
I wonder just how expensive it would be for Nintendo to make some of their games peer to peer, without a central server, like Chunsoft is doing with Homeland. I also remember Iwata saying that their online tests of Mario Kart didn't turn out very well. That is sort of weird, considering a bunch of college students could do it with Warp Pipe.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Viewtiful Joe 2
« on: May 06, 2004, 11:14:14 AM »
A vs. mode in Viewtiful Joe 2 would be awesome if done right. Of course, the players would have different VFX powers, but it would be hard to balance it. If they did do it right, it would be a cool Matrix-style fight, in 2D.

I know the two screens will be useful for Koei. I also think Sonic Team can do something creative. I agree though, I just don't see companies like THQ and EA being creative with the hardware.

This is such great news. Maybe this will stop the "OMG! Teh Virtual Boy 2!" talk that was present even before the new product's details surfaced. This news is like in Return of the King, when the Rohirim rode to Gondor to help them fight. Except add the elves, ents, and dwarves, and that is what this support is like! It's interesting that Square Enix is onboard, I bet they could do so much with two screens. I am just curious as to how creative EA will be with the hardware.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Nintendo wants your thoughts!!!
« on: May 05, 2004, 07:10:23 PM »
I don't like the argument that since Nintendo does not have an online service now, somehow that means it will disrupt their next-generation online plan. Nintendo has been experimenting with online for a long time. This N-Sider articlce, Nintendo Onlinedetails exactly how much they have done exploring online potential. It is clear Nintendo will be online with the N5, so complaining about the GameCube being offline is pointless. The argument that online would have saved Nintendo this generation is wrong. The X-Box has online play, yet it has come nowhere close to the PS2 sales anywhere.

So that makes 3 major deals for them with 3 major companies.

1. Konami

2. Nintendo

3. Activision

According to all I've heard about this company they don't exactly make the best games, so why are all these companies interested in them?

Since the three companies are one now. Kontendo Vision will be official at E3!
