Sure I may be sounding like a boomer but we're coming up on the 20th anniversary of the Gamecube's Last Gasp and we should all celebrate or memorialize it. The death of F-Zero and RARE (sold 1 month later)! the rebirth of Metroid! the Capcom Fiv.. I mean Two! a sleeper hit franchise (or 2?) are born! and boy was it a fun ride:

s- the 19th letter of the alphabet
t- the 20th letter of the alphabet
r- the 18th letter of the alphabet
a- the 1st letter of the alphabet
i- the 9th letter of the alphabet
g- the 7th letter of the alphabet
h- the 8th letter of the alphabet
t- the 20th letter of the alphabet

A few other terms....

Hetero- it means the same thing but it's in Latin.
Binary- like some kind of old computer code or something.

We are gathered here today for the memory of our long-departed and flaky friend, the Capcom 5, whose initial announcement came on yesterday's date in 2002.


And what a splash it made! The site whipped out the rarely-seen "BREAKING NEWS" capslocked headline and gave a solid rundown of the sparkling innovation: Viewtiful Joe, RE4, P.N.03, Killer7, and Dead Phoenix (hat tip to a young and talented Jonathan Metts).

The director's comments describe the game as being all about action and the fluidity of movement; the goal is to make it feel like you're really controlling a superhero.

Director Hiroki Kato says he wants to create that "flying like the bird" feeling in this game.

The few quotations in the article suggest the Gamecube was a great tool to experiment with creative gameplay opportunities, an art that has long since died. You just don't hear developers talk about games this way anymore.

General Gaming / Crossover Game/Switchin' Up Tired Franchises Idea Thread

Lots of great ideas being thrown around lately:

Animal Crossing in a giant world would be awesome one which once you have your friends code your little town or village is plopped onto a big Breath of the Wild sized Map. 

Sounds fun. They'd need to speed up the running and create warp points. Maybe update the graphics a little; what do you all think? Does AC realllly need to keep the N64 style?

I think it'd be cool if they centered the next original Smash Bros. entry around Sakurai's own take on the tagging mechanic we see in some fighting games (they could literally call it... "Smash Bros. Switch"). It would allow them to keep the core mechanics of the series intact, at least in some fashion, but it might also give Sakurai room to add enough new mechanics and gameplay changes that it feels like a truly significant change to the way Smash Bros. is played. It would also fall in line with the frenetic, ridiculous action the series is known for. Bring some Project X Zone staffers on board to write the dialogue (or, better yet, make a full tactical RPG/Smash Bros. crossover story mode) for maximum random crazy bullshit.


And, yeah, I'd also like to see the next Animal Crossing entry move towards a bigger town. I enjoyed the core mechanics of New Leaf well enough, but the size of the town kind of took me out of the game. I don't think it has to be gigantic, as that might take some of the sense of community out of it, but I would like to see it expanded.

Someone mentioned they're tired of the Smash Bros knock-the-opponent-off-the-screen formula, but I can't find the post. I wouldn't mind getting back to basics. Scale back the # of characters to a whopping TEN and make sure they're balanced as heck. No moving environments or flashy backgrounds.
