Crash 'N The Boyz Street Challenge? Now there's a game I wouldn't have guessed would hit the Virtual Console! It's too bad it doesn't support 4 players like the original does though.

This makes me wonder if they're eventually release the unreleased Crash 'N The Boyz Ice Challenge. As far as I know the game was finished...

Art Academy doesn't count as an App IMO and is a game, and of coarse VC games count. None of this matters though.

Well, I haven't played the DS version, but I'm sure it's similar.  It's classic Arkanoid (Breakout with power-ups), but with ingenious level designs.  After beating each level, you can choose to progress left of right.  I believe there are 30 sets of levels each way, 60 total.  You double the number of levels for $2 more in-game.  The game really tests your skills, and forces you to aim that little ball as best you can down narrow pathways.  The 2-player mode is very fun (at least for me and my girlfriend).  The graphics are very classic, rainbow blocks and simple backgrounds.  The music is kind of annoying techno circa 1996, I should see if there's an option to turn it off.  I love the game, but I was a big Arkanoid fan to begin with.  I suggest playing with the Classic Controller's larger D-pad.

Final Fight II for SNES on Monday!

Is the sequel as gimped as the original SNES one was?

Well, PAL regions got Final Fight 2 this week, so that's good.

Nintendo Life has a review of it. Unlike the first SNES one, the sequel DOES have multiplayer in it. However, the only character returning is Mike Haggar. They gave the game a 6/10; saying it's basically the first Final Fight game, but not as good. http://vc.nintendolife.com/reviews/2009/10/final_fight_2_virtual_console

I should point out that the game can't be "gimped" though. It was created just for the SNES, there was no arcade version or other console version. The SNES version is the only one created.

It's better than the original, in terms of mechanics and programming.  Its strike animations use some more frames than the original FF1 Arcade, so attacking and collision feels more responsive and less flimsy, more along the lines of what Street Fighter II accomplished.

The bosses are mostly big buff dudes that hardly animate, with less variety than FF1's.

But Rolento's fight is absolutely killer and more interesting than he was in FF1.

Also added was a throwing mechanic that allows you to finish off a combo by throwing an enemy behind you (your vulnerable side).

MAYOR MIKE HAGGAR also upgraded to the Spinning Pile Driver, proving he's the greatest sidescroller fighter to ever grace your TV.

NINTENDO DOWNLOAD: THIS WEEK'S DOWNLOADABLE LINEUP TRULY SPARKLES

Nov. 2, 2009

Why just take photos with your Nintendo DSi™ system when you can have access to a virtual photo booth? Sparkle Snapshots™, a new Nintendo DSiWare™ application, lets you customize pictures with fun extras like fancy frames and stamps. On the other hand, if you're more of a fan of Nordic pillaging and/or dragons, you're going to want to check out this week's Nintendo DSiWare offerings of both Viking Invasion and Battle of Giants: Dragons – Bronze Edition.

Three fun WiiWare™ games are added to the ever-growing library, including Carnival King, which turns your TV into a carnival midway. And the Virtual Console™ delivers its usual quality classics, including Fighting Street®, a port of the original arcade version of STREET FIGHTER.

The more you defend yourself, the more ferocious they'll become. Before you know it, they'll be invoking legions of fantastic creatures straight out of the mythical land of Asgard. Fortunately, the experience you gain will help you to build even more powerful defenses. Thwart all your assailants' ruses and unlock new kinds of buildings: tornado-blowing windmills to repel the ships, monoliths that strengthen your fortifications or canons that shoot studded shells. Discover more than 10 levels, tons of units, a Campaign mode, a Survival mode and three difficulty levels. There's even a little surprise at the end. Can you rise to the challenge and stop Olaf from taking your treasure home to his sweetheart Olga?

Still, it's nice to have multiple VC releases 2 weeks in a row (especially since this past summer had 2 weeks in a row with ZERO Virtual Console releases).
