Teenage Michael Bay Ninja Turtles!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/38210/this-week-in-releases-august-3-2014

If there was one franchise I don't understand it is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. To quote myself instead of writing something original, on October 20, I said, "You know I don't understand the appeal of the Ninja Turtles. I neither grew up with them or care to learn more about them, but despite that, the 3DS gets another licensed game and I have to tell you about it."

3DS

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles  $29.99, August 5

Based off of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a new film from visionary director Michael Bay ("film" and "visionary director" are used loosely) this is looking to be your typical movie tie-in 3DS game. Released by Activision, a publisher which thrives on Michael Bay-ish games, this hack and slash title is sure to please somebody (or at least I hope so since it costs money). Some of the features of this game include playing as different characters, earning XP, and turning on the game system with your hands.

Maybe this week you should just hide in your shell. I'll be back with more game releases as they are released.

Do you know what a Justice Beaver is?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38199/two-new-games-indie-games-are-coming-to-the-snes-alongside-the-wii-u

Indie game developer/publisher Collectorvision is releasing two games onto the Wii U eShop along with cartridge copies for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

Not much has been said about these games other than their titles: Justice Beaver and Sydney Hunter & The Caverns of Death. Their cartridge releases on the SNES are not as surprising as you may think when you take a look at Collectorvision's background. They have worked on many games including new releases for the Atari 2600, Colecovision, and Intellivision.

Other Sydney Hunter games are  currently in development for multiple retro systems including the NES and Sega Dreamcast.

Start building up some excitement for a constructive game experience.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/38161/this-week-in-releases-july-27-2014

Only one game this week, but it's one I'm sure everyone has been looking forward to.

3DS

LEGO Ninjago: Nindroids  $29.99, July 29

A sequel to a 2011 DS game, LEGO Ninjago: Nindroids follows the story of season three of the popular TV series LEGO Ninjago. Expect a lot of stud collecting and Spinjitsu something or other. Since this is a LEGO game I'll take a moment to remember LEGO Island...

Ok, so maybe I lied in the first paragraph when I said you were looking forward to this game. The important part is, you read the story and made it to the end. Not only has your video game knowledge grown by one game, but you also learned a valuable lesson in believing what you read on the internet.

Wii Sports Club takes a swing at retail.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/38114/this-week-in-releases-july-20-2014

Wii Sports Club marks the return of the Wii Sports franchise to Retail, this week only on Wii U.

Wii U

Wii Sports Club  $39.99, July 25

Originally released as seperate eShop releases, these HD remakes of the Wii Sports games added new GamePad features only possible on Wii U. The original Wii Sports served to bring many new gamers into the fold, and while it may not rock the gaming world like it did in 2006, Wii Sports Club still offers motion control fun for the whole family.

One release this week, but if U are like Mii it is a good one..

He's gonna take you back to the past.

Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures is hitting the Wii U "very soon", with the 3DS version to come out sometime after.

This news comes from AVGN Adventures developer's Twitter, FreakZone Games, where it was stated that "AVGN ADVENTURES IS COMING TO WII U VERY SOON, AND 3DS AFTER. Thanks."

Based off of the popular web series starring James Rolfe, AVGN Adventures is a 2D side-scrolling platformer, with the same sense of humor as the web series. The game is currently available on PC right now, with a release in Europe to come sometime in the near future.

One game, One Piece.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/38012/this-week-in-releases-july-6-2014

Just one 3DS game this week, One Piece: Unlimited World Red. It is also coming to Wii U, but it's eShop only.

Nintendo 3DS

One Piece: Unlimited World Red- $29.99,July 8

The newest One Piece game is another facet in the One Piece franchise of Anime, Manga, and of course video games. This installment has players partaking in many side quests, facing off against bosses, and encountering characters, some of which are all new for the game. There is also co-op mode allowing players to battle and fish together.

So not much this week, but with summer comes the usual lull in game releases.

TalkBack / Pier Solar HD Delay Detailed
« on: July 02, 2014, 02:19:26 PM »

Even with a delay, Pier Solar HD brings many new additions worth getting excited about.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37980/pier-solar-hd-delay-detailed

Pier Solar and the Great Architects (referred to as Pier Solar HD) has been delayed after failing "internal requirements" by Microsoft for Xbox 360 certification.

This directly effects the release of the title on Wii U because developer WaterMelon Co. wants to send in the game in to Nintendo, along with Sony for its PSN release, as "clean" as possible in order to avoid more delays. In a blog post about the delay on the dev's website Magical Game Factory, more details were given on this new version of Pier Solar and the Great Architects. Unlike the original (a 2010 homebrew released for Sega Genesis) there will be multiple endings. The story has also been beefed up with 16 more pages worth of dialog added. A robot dog that was left out originally is in the HD release along with new sidequests.

TalkBack / Stealth Inc. 2 Gets a Potential Release Date, New Details
« on: June 26, 2014, 11:11:00 AM »

The game may sneak on to the Wii U as early as October.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37946/stealth-inc-2-gets-a-potential-release-date-new-details

Curve Studios is aiming to release the Wii U exclusive Stealth Inc. 2 this October.

A 2D platformer focused on sneaking around, Stealth Inc. 2 features exploration-based "Metroidvania" areas along with the ability to post messages on Miiverse that will appear on other players' walls. Curve Studios has infused a dark sense of humor into the sequel, though unlike the original it will be more apparent from an earlier stage in order to let players who don't finish the game experience it. A level editor is included which, along with advanced sharing capabilities, will add to Stealth Inc. 2's extensive content.

The first title in the Stealth Inc. series was released on multiple platforms, including PlayStation systems and mobile devices. However, it never came to a Nintendo console or handheld.

Transformational farming.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/37898/this-week-in-releases-june-22-2014

Transformers and farming are the two main topics this week in releases. Will the two collide into an all new genre? No, not likely.

Wii U

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark- $49.99, June 24

A third person shooter, a genre sorely lacking on the Wii U, Rise of the Dark Spark combines the worlds of the Transformers movies and previous Transformers video games in a story in which the two dimensions are brought together through the power of the Dark Spark.

Nintendo 3DS

Farming Simulator 14- $29.99, June 24

Ever wonder what it is like to be a farmer? I certainly don't but some people did apparently because this game exists. Live the life of a crop grower and seller, earn money and do farm stuff. That's about I'll I got to say about this game.

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark- $29.99, June 24

Another Transformers game, this one on the 3DS. This version is a strategy RPG, and is being developed by WayForward.

Wow what an exciting week, come by next week for more Nintendo craziness.

TalkBack / Splatoon Release Window, Modes Revealed
« on: June 20, 2014, 05:21:16 AM »

You will be able to Splatoon by yourself or with a friend.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37886/splatoon-release-window-modes-revealed

Splatoon will have single-player and multiplayer modes, according to an interview with the game's project lead, Tsubasa Sakaguchi, and Producer Hisashi Nogami. Additionally, the game will be coming out in the first half of 2015 as a full retail product.

In regards to this revelation, Nogami stated the following:

“First of all, our plan is to release this as a full retail packaged software in 2015… the first half of 2015. And because we’re releasing this as a full software title, we of course plan to include a single-player mode but then also a one-on-one multiplayer mode that can be played without connecting to the Internet.”

The one-on-one multiplayer will be controlled using one GamePad and one Pro Controller, though how this will work is currently unknown.

TalkBack / FIFA 15 Heading to Wii and 3DS, Kicking Wii U Aside
« on: June 19, 2014, 09:38:35 AM »

Well if a Wii U version won't sell, I guess a Wii version will!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37853/fifa-15-heading-to-wii-and-3ds-kicking-wii-u-aside

FIFA 15 is making its way to the Wii and 3DS, though no version for the Wii U.

While FIFA 15 for "next-gen" systems has multiple new features to set itself apart from previous entries, the Wii and 3DS versions most likely only have an updated roster as their selling point. The press release states "Not all game features are available on all gaming platforms." This is not new territory for Electronic Arts, last year's FIFA 14 on Wii and 3DS, was subtitled "Legacy Edition" and had no updates to gameplay or game modes.

FIFA 15 is coming to almost every platform, except for Wii U, releasing this fall.

Set to release in 2015, the game will feature a new art style, making the game look like it is made out of clay. Controlled using the GamePad, the game is similar to Kirby's Canvas Curse, with players drawing lines using the stylus to move Kirby as a ball throughout the game.

Touch yarn, Get fuzzy.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37711/yarn-yoshi-becomes-yoshis-woolly-world

Yarn Yoshi is now called Yoshi's Woolly World.

This Yoshi game is more action-oriented than Good-Feel's previous effort, Kirby's Epic Yarn. There is more exploration involved in this than the average Mario title. 2-player co-op is included, allowing one Yoshi to eat and spit the other Yoshi out toward hard to reach places. Yoshi has many transformations, as in his past games. Woolly World is set to release sometime in 2015, with no specific date given.

TalkBack / June's Club Nintendo Games Are Pink and Puffy
« on: June 10, 2014, 04:28:00 AM »

Kirby's Adventure is among the four games available this month.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37696/junes-club-nintendo-games-are-pink-and-puffy

This month's Club Nintendo games are Electroplankton Rec-Rec, Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby's Adventure, and Mario Party 2.

The DSiWare experience Electroplankton Rec-Rec was one of the weirder games to be released on the DS. Originally a part of a full retail release, this game of sorts allows you to make fish sing by recording your voice into the mic. This game is available only through the 3DS eShop and will cost you 150 coins.

Kirby's Dream Land is the first and least colorful Kirby game in existence. Even on its box art Kirby was white! A short but sweet romp through Dreamland, this Game Boy Virtual Console title can be yours for 150 coins.

One of the later (and arguably better) NES games, Kirby's Adventure, was Kirby's foray into the world of color. The game is as cheerful and cute as Kirby gets. The Wii U Virtual Console release is going for 200 coins.

Mario Party 2 on the Wii Virtual Console shows just how long Nintendo has been releasing party games. If you want to play an N64 classic, cough up 250 coins, and gather some friends too. This title will also be playable through Wii mode on the Wii U.

All four titles will be available until July 6.

This game is selling...fast.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37580/12-million-mario-kart-8-copies-sold-in-its-first-weekend

1.2 million copies of Mario Kart 8 have been sold worldwide.

A press release brought this news along with the following statement from Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo of America:

"The early response to Mario Kart 8 demonstrates that the best days for Wii U are still ahead...This year’s E3 is just days away, and it will be all about the future games for Nintendo platforms. This milestone is a great place to start!"

Additionally, Mario Kart 8's Club Nintendo offer of a free game with each Mario Kart purchase managed to crash the Club Nintendo servers, with many consumers attempting to take advantage of the deal.

A total of 100 million Mario Kart game units have been sold to date, the highest selling of which being the previous console entry, Mario Kart Wii.

Get a life.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/37571/this-week-in-releases-june-1-2014

Tomodachi Life is the only game coming to Nintendo platforms this week. It is also one of the weirder games released this year, though not as weird a Conception II.

Nintendo 3DS

Tomodachi Life- $34.99, June 6

The Mii race plans on claiming Earth and life as we know it. Tomodachi (which means friend) Life is really weird and I don't know how to explain it. It's a life simulation, sort of, which allows players to put their Mii character, along with a vocaloid version of their voice, on an island of Mii characters that will interact with one another.

That's all this week, come back next time and I'll tell you what games are coming out soon.

TalkBack / Nintendo to Work on Emerging Markets With a New Console
« on: May 12, 2014, 05:59:03 PM »

Iwata says Nintendo wants to make a new console for specifically previously untapped markets.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37402/nintendo-to-work-on-emerging-markets-with-a-new-console

President and CEO of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, revealed that the company plans on making new console aimed at emerging markets.

“We want to make new things, with new thinking rather than a cheaper version of what we currently have, The product and price balance must be made from scratch,” Iwata said on the matter. Nintendo is currently looking into plans for Chinese console releases by studying their regulations, as they recently ended a 13-year ban on video game consoles.

While the innovation is brewing, one thing is for certain: Nintendo (or at least Iwata) is not turning to the smartphone market. "We have had a console business for 30 years, and I don’t think we can just transfer that over onto a smartphone model," Iwata stated. "Our games such as Mario and Zelda are designed for our game machines so if we transfer them into smartphones as they are, customers won’t be satisfied."

Nintendo is not trying to provide "social commentary."

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37361/nintendo-comments-on-lack-of-same-sex-relationships-in-tomodachi-life-localization

The localization of Tomadachi Life for North America will not allow for same sex relationships with a representative stating that they "never intended to make any form of social commentary."

Nintendo of America explained their stance in a statement saying "Nintendo never intended to make any form of social commentary with the launch of 'Tomodachi Life'. The relationship options in the game represent a playful alternate world rather than a real-life simulation. We hope that all of our fans will see that 'Tomodachi Life' was intended to be a whimsical and quirky game, and that we were absolutely not trying to provide social commentary."

A recent "Miiquality" campaign started by Tye Marini, a gay Nintendo fan from Mesa, Arizona, had the goal of getting same-sex relationships in the game's localization. In an interview he talked about the game's customization of Mii characters, saying  "You name them. You give them a personality. You give them a voice. They just can't fall in love if they're gay."

TalkBack / All Star Wars Video Games No Longer Canon
« on: April 28, 2014, 04:47:00 PM »

Goodbye Dash Rendar. Goodbye Galen Marek. Goodbye (most of) Rogue Squadron.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37282/all-star-wars-video-games-no-longer-canon

All previously released Star Wars video games no longer fit into the franchise's timeline, according to Lucasfilm.

Future Star Wars games will, however, be a part of the new continuity for the most part, along with all the films and The Clone Wars TV series. "We're set to bring Star Wars back to the big screen and continue the adventure through games, books, comics, and new formats that are just emerging," Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said. "This future of interconnected storytelling will allow fans to explore this galaxy in deeper ways than ever before."

In an effort to unify storytelling in future products, including the upcoming 2015 movie Episode VII, all Expanded Universe materials from the past are now non-canon, meaning they are out of the continuity of what happened in Star Wars lore. This includes all video games that have come out, in addition to the countless books and comics. However, some of that might not be a surprise, since a lot of the Expanded Universe content has always been very easily deemed non-canon in the past. For example, The Clone Wars TV series mostly invalidated the Xbox/PC game Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic.

The affected games on Nintendo systems are games such as Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (Nintendo 64), the Rogue Squadron series on Nintendo 64 and GameCube, and the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed games on Wii and DS.

It is unknown if any of the future Star Wars games will even come to Nintendo systems, though. EA is responsible for publishing the major Star Wars video games and as of now, the last EA release on a Nintendo system was more than a year ago.
