TalkBack / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land Review
« on: November 11, 2014, 02:30:29 AM »

This remake of Kirby's Adventure left out some of the fun and delight of the original.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/reviewmini/38992/kirby-nightmare-in-dream-land-review

As a fan of Kirby and all things related to the lovable puff ball, I was excited to try out one of the franchise entries I had yet to touch. Unfortunately, Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland was a letdown, leaving me exhaling all the enthusiasm I had sucked in.As a remake of Kirby's Adventure, one would expect the Game Boy Advance title to be better looking, and while it’s certainly more technically ambitious, much of the 8-bit magic and charm has been lost in translation. There’s something indescribable how Adventure looked and felt on the NES—it was charming in spite of its limitations. Nightmare in Dreamland is still colorful and the music still cheerful, but it has a little less soul.

Like most Kirby games, this one is quite easy—perhaps too easy. Levels are short and rarely complex, and the boss battles are actually much easier than they were on the NES (Mr. Sun/Mr. Moon have glass jaws in this game).  Each level features several minigames that can be unlocked by hitting switches in certain stages. Most are from the original NES game, but there are two new ones (bomb tennis and rail grinding) and a variation on Samurai Showdown, but for the most part these games feel hollow, as they only dole out 1ups, of which you’ll find no shortage anyway. Like all GBA VC games, this one includes a ghostly multiplayer option that you’ll have no use for.

The usual Virtual Console overlay for the Wii U GBA games is useful, and having the full color manual in digital form makes for some enjoyable browsing. However, if you have been itching to play Kirby's Adventure, I would recommend playing the NES original or the 3D Classic remake, as this version just doesn't do anything to improve the experience—and in my opinion, actually takes away from the charm of the original. This game is not a nightmare, but it just might put you to sleep.

Sonic goes boom.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/38970/this-week-in-releases-november-9-2014

Sonic and Batman are the notable releases this week. Unless you love Hello Kitty, or get excited about 3DS Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles tie-in games, they really are the only ones worth talking about.

3DS

Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal - $39.99, November 11

This Sonic release on 3DS is a 2D platformer rendered in 3D, so a 2.5D game. A separate story but similar name makes this game worth playing, assuming it is good, even if you plan on playing its Wii U sibling.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Danger of the Ooze - $29.99, November 11

How many Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games have come out this year? I hope this is the last, or they risk saturating the market.

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham - $29.99, November 11

A handheld rendition of LEGO Batman 3. If it's anything like other handheld LEGO games, it will feature different the same kind of gameplay since the original LEGO Star Wars game. Still, it may be good.

Hello Kitty Racing - $29.99, November 11

What in the world? Forget about Mario Kart, Hello Kitty Racing is in town!

Wii U

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric - $49.99, November 11

Lyric is a giant snake and you must defeat it. The Sonic Boom release on Wii U is a 3D platformer, but unlike last year's Sonic Lost World, this game has a TV show to tie in with it. Beyond that you play as multiple characters which each have different abilities. That may not be the most original idea in the world but I don't have anything to say after, "hey" just give Sonic a chance, we all liked him at one point, right?

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham - $49.99, November 11

Why is Batman in Space? This isn't the beginning of a joke, this is a sincere question many will ask about this game. There are over 150 playable DC heroes and villains to play as though, so maybe you can ask one of them. There is no DLC support for the Wii U version though, so if you were looking forward to spending more money, you are out of luck.

Anything excite you this week? Leave a comment below and let me know. I'm always up for a chat, especially with you.

Will Mario Kart Wii rise from the ashes once known as Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38968/eff-petitions-united-states-government-to-permit-modifications-of-abandoned-online-games

The Electronics Frontier Foundation (EFF) is petitioning the United States government to allow legal modifications of games that no longer function online to do so once again.

Games like Mario Kart Wii that no longer have online support would potentially be playable online again if third-party servers can be set up by people in the modding community. As of now this is illegal, but the hope is that it will be made legal for anyone using legitimate copies of the games. They do, however, make the distinction between games with online features and MMOs, the latter of which have content stored on servers.

The petition is being filed with both the Library of Congress and the United States Copyright Office.

Travel far outside of New Los Angeles.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38937/xenoblade-chronicles-x-detailed-during-nintendo-direct

Xenoblade Chronicles X was further detailed during today's Nintendo Direct.

Using "New Los Angeles" as a home base, your character, an explorer, sets out on the strange planet to partake in missions. They include hunting various creatures and doing favors for other characters. The story is about a society of people who crash landed a huge spaceship onto the planet in the game.

If you don't always want to be in combat, there is also an exploration mode where you can't get hurt. There is no official release date other than Spring 2015 for Japan, and sometime in 2015 for North America

You can dress your Mii racer as Kirby, Fox, or Samus. Wild!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38923/release-date-for-mario-kart-8s-first-dlc-pack-amiibo-update-revealed

Mario Kart 8's first DLC pack, which contains new courses, tracks and karts, is set to release on November 13. On that same day, Mario Kart 8 will be updated to make use of Amiibo as well.

This update allows players to use select Amiibo figures (in stores November 21) to give Miis character costumes when they race. So far, the usable figures include Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, DK, Link, Kirby, Captain Falcon, Samus and Fox McCloud. It is not known if Amiibo Wave 2 figures will work with the game.

The DLC adds three new characters in the roles of Link, Cat Peach, and Tanooki Mario. It also adds eight new tracks and four new karts, including a kart inspired by F-Zero and tracks inspired by Excitebike and The Legend of Zelda.

TalkBack / Code Name S.T.E.A.M. Coming Spring 2015
« on: November 05, 2014, 09:10:00 AM »

The Intelligent Systems-developed 3DS RPG is coming out next spring.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38928/code-name-steam-coming-spring-2015

Code Name S.T.E.A.M., the interesting 3DS RPG from Intelligent Systems, is set to come out in  spring 2015.

Featured during today's Nintendo Direct footage showed off multiple characters, each with weapons powered by steam. The story is quite weird, as it is about President Abraham Lincoln leading a fight against invaders.

The game was first shown at E3 2014, where it was surprise reveal during the second day of the event.

TalkBack / Nintendo Needs Apps
« on: November 04, 2014, 06:39:00 AM »

Nintendo is lagging behind its competition with multimedia support. It's time for a change.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/editorial/38914/nintendo-needs-apps

Whenever a Nintendo system launches, the only thing that truly concerns me is what games will I be able to play. After a while I crave more. That's when applications come in handy. With the 3DS and Wii U, apps have been few and far between, and if Nintendo wants to compete for sales, they should reach out and bring more to their platforms to add more value.

Let's face it, at the Wii U's price of $299, multimedia content is severely lacking when compared to the Xbox One (being dropped to $349) and PlayStation 4 ($399). While I understand the Wii U is a gaming console first and foremost, the reality of the market shows that many people, especially those outside the core gaming crowd, determine value by what a system can do. When spending hundreds of dollars, the average consumer looks at these features to make their decisions.

While the Wii U and 3DS both have Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube, and the Wii U has Amazon Instant Video, there is room for so much more. Here are a few suggestions:

eReader, Kindle and Nook:Reading on phones and tablets has become commonplace, I see no reason for Nintendo systems not to do the same. The 3DS would provide a convenient way to bring books wherever you go. The Wii U GamePad could easily serve as an eReader with Off-TV Play. A partnership with a company like Amazon or Barnes and Noble would bring a lot of attention to these devices, and could get people hooked on gaming in the process. Buy a 2DS as a really cheap eReader for your kid, and hey did you know you can play Mario on it, too? Comic books are also worthy of an app, specifically Comixology (also owned by Amazon). The Wii U and 3DS could both handle these kind of applications, and the fast speed of the New 3DS could make everything run even more smoothly for new handheld adopters.

UltraViolet:

Services like Vudu allow consumers to watch digital copies of movies anywhere on any device using UltraViolet. Throw it on to the 3DS and Wii U, and now both systems would have large video libraries for rent or purchase, without having to set up a whole different movie store interface for the eShop akin to the PlayStation Store.

Personal Videos:Now that the New 3DS allows users to sync data over WiFi, why not let users put their personal mp4s on the microSD card? While it is possible with the camera app, a dedicated app for videos longer than 10 mins, would be useful. Nintendo's own 3D videos could be stored here too, like trailers for movies and maybe purchasable versions of Miyamoto's  Pikmin Shorts.

While Nintendo systems may be missing many services that other systems have, they are still great devices. A few more features would go a long way this holiday season and beyond into convincing consumers to go the Nintendo route.

Is this week a flyover?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/38897/this-week-in-releases-november-2-2014

Not much going on this week. Disney Planes actually makes up the two-thirds of the games coming out.

3DS

Disney Planes: Fire and Rescue - $29.99, November 4Based on the movie of the same name, this is a game that teaches children the importance of teamwork during wild fires, and that planes can talk. Gameplay is mission based, like Pilotwings, with multiple aircraft to fly as.

Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley - $29.99, November 4The Lost Valley, the latest entry in the Harvest Moon franchise, takes a new approach at customization in vein of the"never been on Nintendo" Minecraft.

Wii U

Disney Planes: Fire and Rescue - $39.99, November 4 You wanted a third party Wii U retail game and you got one! I'm not going to bash the game because it is a licensed kids movie tie in though, I'm taking the wait and then bash approach.

-

Not much this week, but Batman will come and save us. I know it!

Licensed games galore!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/38836/this-week-in-releases-october-26-2014

This week there are only three new games and all of them are licensed tie-ins. While you may be happy if you are a fan of any of those properties, the cynic in me wants to tell you not to get your hopes up.

3DS

Big Hero 6 Battle in the Bay - $29.99, October 28Based on the upcoming Disney animated feature, which is based off of a Marvel comic, Big Hero 6 looks to be a sidescroller action game. At least the screenshots on the 3DS eShop have made it look that way. Will this be good? Disney animated movie tie-in games have had a bad track-record. I should know, I reviewed Wreck-it-Ralph.

Power Rangers Super Megaforce - $29.99, October 28A sequel to Power Rangers Megaforce, Super Megaforce must be better. If Nintendo has taught us anything it's that Super is always better. Super Nintendo, Super Mario,  Super Smash Bros, and so many other great things are "Super". There are 30 playable Power Rangers, and lots of fighting.

The Legend of Korra: A New Era Begins - $39.99, October 24 A tie-in with the popular Nickelodeon series, The Legend of Korra, this title is all about wielding the elements just like the show. Whether it's good or not is yet to be seen, but it does feature an original story from the writers of the show! That's worth being happy about maybe...

DS

Big Hero 6 Battle in the Bay - $29.99, October 28Like the 3DS version but presumably less pretty. Though the screenshots of the 3DS version are not pretty either.

-

Not much this week, but November brings many big releases including a port of Watch Dogs and (squee!) Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Pokédraw!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/38774/this-week-in-releases-october-19-2014

Learn how to draw Pokémon in Pokémon Art Academy. Sure it may not be Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire, but you may just learn a little instead.

3DS

Fantasy Life - $39.99, October 24Live the life of your dreams in a world filled with fishing, crafting, and maybe a little combat here and there. Daan the Maan Koopman reviewed this title and gave it a 8. Read it and find out if he chose Fantasy Life or if Fantasy Life chose him.

Pokémon Art Academy - $29.99, October 24Have you ever wanted to be the finest Pokémon artist this side of deviantART? Well I got a game for you. A wild Daan appeared and gave it an 8 out of 10.

Wii U

Just Dance 2015 - $39.99, October 21Dance with your Wii U and celebrate why you bought the system! Ubisoft can do no wrong. Right?

The Voice: I Want You - $49.99, October 21A Tad bit pricey on Wii U, The Voice: I Want You has nothing to do with the Beatles song of a similar name. Just some good old fashioned singing. Absolutely no game on Wii U this week could be better.

Bayonetta 2 - $59.99, October 24Certainly the biggest game of the week, Bayonetta 2 is the Wii U exclusive that is still too hard to believe is an exclusive. It is though, so beyond high review scores, expect lots of whining from Internet people. I mean what else could you expect when such an awesome game only goes to Wii U?

Wii

Just Dance 2015 - $39.99, October 21

Yes the Wii still is receiving game, but only the best releases. Ubisoft brings us Just Dance 2015 in full standard definition! Dance the night away with your friends, family, or just by yourself!

The Voice: I Want You - $39.99, October 21If you can't dance, maybe your talents are in the more vocal practice of singing. Based on the NBC show is an at home version game on Wii!

-

Will you be playing anything this week? If not, stay watchful because their are plenty more movie tie-in games coming to entertain us.

This game went the way of Porkins.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38764/canceled-star-wars-rogue-squadron-trilogy-on-wii-surfaces-online

A Star Wars Rogue Squadron Collection was almost completed when it was canceled for the Wii.

Originally being developed as a trilogy collection for the original Xbox, multiple canceled projects revived the then 50% completed title for the Wii. Factor 5, the now dead developer of the game, implemented many control methods, including GameCube controllers, Wii Motion Plus, Wii Balance Board, and Wii Wheel support. There were even new lightsaber battles using 1:1 motion controls with the then new Motion Plus. In the end the game was never released, mainly due to financial struggles with Lucasarts and other companies involved. The former president of Factor 5 Julian Eggebrecht says of the game "Believe me, if you ever saw it running on the Wii at 60 [fps], it is by far - and I think I'm not overstating that - the technically most impressive thing you would ever see on [Wii]."

At this moment in time no Star Wars games are currently being worked on, at least publicly for Nintendo platforms. A new Battlefront game is coming from Dice, the developer behind the Battlefield series, however it is not for the Wii U.

Duck Dynasty for 3DS is happening, oh my.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/38715/this-week-in-releases-october-12-2014

Leading the Pac(k) of games this week is Pac-Man. While I can't speak for how well the new titles fit into the prior continuity of the pellet muncher's existing games, the fact that Pac-Man is still relevant to kids today is enough to leave me satisfied.

3DS

Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2 - $29.99, October 14

The popular Pac-Man show gets another game. Fight the evil Lord Betrayus in a platforming adventure. It may not be the Pac-Man you remember, but it is still Pac-Man nonetheless. As always ghosts are a main stay of the series and and so is the number 2. So the fact that it is called Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2 is not surprising.

Petz Beach - $29.99, October 14

Ubisoft strikes back on Nintendo platforms. Surprised it is a 3DS game? Where you expecting Far Cry 4 on Wii U by some chance? HAHAHA, that's funny! No, we get Petz Beach. Play with dogs, penguins, and probably a bunch of other things in what is being called by me, a lesson in why we can't have nice things.

Petz Countryside - $29.99, October 14

Yes there are two Petz games this week. This one has a cover with a panda, a lion, and a dog on it.

Poptropica: Forgotten Island - $29.99, October 14

A terrible art style is the highlight of this prejudgment. Take a look at some of the screenshots, though, it really looks bad.

Duck Dynasty- $29.99, October 14

This is bad folks. Duck Dynasty is spreading and video games are its next target. Beware! This is kind of a mini-game collection. You learn how to be one of them.

Wii U

Pac-Man and the Ghostly  Adventures 2 - $39.99, October 14

Pac-Man assaults the the little console that could with his new multiplatform game.

Stop by next week and see what else is hitting store shelves!

Skylanders Trap Team hits three Nintendo platforms.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/38657/this-week-in-releases-october-5-2014

Wii U

Skylanders Trap Team- $99.99, October 5

Skylanders is back again and this time you get to trap your enemies. While it may not feature Marvel super heroes or Donald Duck, it does feature new gameplay mechanics to liven up the franchise.

3DS

Skylanders Trap Team- $64.99, October 5

Skylanders gets another portable iteration. Even though it has a lower price than its console counterparts, the 3DS version still may not be worth it according to NWR's Director, Neal Ronaghan. You can read his review here.

Tenkai Knights: Brave Battle- $29.99, October 7

Based off some show, this is a game about things. OK, I'll try to be a bit more specific. There is a power in everything called Tenkai, and you harness said power in your robot suits. Exciting, huh?

Wii

Skylanders Trap Team- $99.99, October 5

So this version is the same idea as the other two. However, the Wii game comes with a download code for the Wii U version, so if you decide to get a Wii U you can use the download code. Something tells me if you are reading this you may already own a Wii U though...

That's it this week, come back for more fun, games, and releases.

Sakurai speaks the words you did not want to hear.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38631/lack-of-circle-pad-pro-support-for-super-smash-bros-for-nintendo-3ds-explained-by-director

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS does not support the Circle Pad Pro due to hardware constraints, specifically, the amount of processing power the add-on requires.

Smash Bros. and Kid Icarus: Uprising director Masahiro Sakurai explained the problem in a recent issue of Famitsu magazine: "Supporting the Circle Pad Pro requires the use of some of the CPU's processing load." They found while developing Uprising that it took "around 5%" of the handheld system's processing power. Sakurai's recent explanation for omitting the Ice Climbers noted that his new game uses the 3DS to its maximum capabilities, meaning there is no room for a peripheral such as the Circle Pad Pro.

The New Nintendo 3DS (and XL) will support the use of the system's second joystick in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, which is used in the same way as the Circle Pad Pro. However, the New 3DS also has a more powerful processor, so having it as a part of the system instead of as an add-on should not be a problem.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/38612/this-week-in-releases-september-28-2014

This week is one of those rare weeks where it feels alright that their is only one release. The game we have all been eagerly anticipating is only a few days away.

3DS

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS- $39.99, October 3

Although not cleverly titled, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is this year's most highly anticipated release on Nintendo's handheld. For the first time ever, Smash Bros. has gone portable and the 3DS version of the game brings a bevy of content that will personally keep me occupied for a long time. Our own Brian Rose reviewed it and he liked it a lot.

While only one game is being released, I'm sure nobody is disappointed by the the game being offered.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38601/transparent-red-and-blue-2ds-systems-heading-to-europe

The 2DS is getting the transparent treatment with two new 2DS designs; Transparent Red and Transparent Blue.

The consoles themselves are due out November 7, while bundles with Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are coming November 28. The 2DS units themselves will retail for  £89.99 while the bundles will be £114.99. Worth noting, the games are digital copies on a 4 GB SD card included, they are not cartridge copies.

This isn't the first time Nintendo has made a transparent system, both the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance got the clear design over their lifespans.

A super week for the Wii U.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/38569/this-week-in-releases-september-21-2014

Four games this week, and two of them are really awesome! They are also on Wii U which had been experiencing a retail game drought of epic proportions.

Wii

FIFA 15- $29.99, September 23

Remember the Wii? Remember when that was a system you still bought games for? Well Electronic Arts remembers and they want you to the buy the same version of FIFA they sold last year. Besides roster changes, there is no difference in what this game offers compared to previous entries.

Nintendo 3DS

FIFA 15- $29.99, September 23

FIFA is hitting the 3DS yet again, and once more it is nothing but changes to the roster. So if you don't mind buying what you already own, and want a soccer game on your 3DS, then go ahead. Otherwise I would stay clear from this one.

Wii U

Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition)- $74.99, September 23

Disney and Marvel fans take notice. Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes releases this Tuesday. To say I am excited for this game is an understatement. While it may be pricey, especially if you buy separate Play Sets like Guardians of the Galaxy, there is a lot of fun to be had. With purchase of the starter pack, you get three figures and a play set piece which gives you access to an Avengers game, not a mini-game, but a full sized Avengers game set in an open world Manhattan. Toy Box Mode is also back in this sequel, and plenty of non-Marvel Disney characters are coming to it like Donald Duck and Stitch.

Hyrule Warriors- $59.99, September 26

Hyrule Warriors mashes the Dynasty Warriors and Legend of Zelda series into one new action packed game. Plenty of playable characters, multiple modes, and really fantastic renditions of music from Zelda games makes this a must own for every Zelda fan.

A great week for Wii U owners! With more awesome games coming before the end of 2014, it is a good time to own what had been a retail abandoned system for the past month.

Cooking Mama Strikes Back.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/38508/this-week-in-releases-september-14-2014

Only two 3DS games this week and, once again, no Wii U releases. Aw shucks.

Nintendo 3DS

Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appétit- $29.99, September 16

In the fifth episode of the Cooking Mama saga there are over 60 unlockable recipes to cook, six different game modes, word games, and the ability to be a server is highlight some of the fun to be had.

Theatrythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call- $39.99, September 16

The sequel to the first Theatrhythm game, Curtain Call brings more Final Fantasy music along with new modes and oodles of unlockable songs, characters, and other digital goods. I can't say I'm too excited, I have never actually played a Final Fantasy game. Maybe if a rhythm game was made out of a franchise I care about I would be on-board.

Another week with no new Wii U retail releases. I wouldn't get too upset if I were you though, a big new game from Disney is on the way, but I'll tell you more next week.

Kirby Super Star and Super Punch-Out are two of this month's eight games.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38451/septembers-club-nintendo-rewards-want-you-to-punch-jump-and-suck

Club Nintendo is offering up eight games as rewards this month: Mario Bros., Kirby Super Star, Super Punch-Out, NES Play-Action Football, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Touch Solitaire, and Art Style: PiCTOBiTS.

Mario Bros. for the Wii U Virtual Console is a game featuring the Mario brothers before they were super. Back then, they mainly jumped on stuff on a single screen. It wasn't until Super Mario Bros. that they would travel to the right. You can redeem this game for 200 coins.

Kirby Super Star is actually not one, single platforming adventure but instead, an assortment of different Kirby experiences. Originally released on the Super Nintendo, you can get a copy of it for the Wii U Virtual Console for 200 coins.

Super Punch-Out!!! is the SNES Punch-Out game that offered far more appealing visuals than its NES predecessor. You can get this game for 250 coins through the Wii Virtual Console on the Wii Shop Channel. After redeeming it, you can upgrade this copy to a Wii U version on the eShop for a $1.50.

NES Play-Action Football may not be Madden but it is "retro", so that must be good for something. It is 200 coins for the Wii or Wii Mode on the Wii U.

Super Mario Bros. on the 3DS virtual console is the NES classic we all know and love. If you already don't own it in a million different ways you can get a copy for 200 coins.

The Legend of Zelda may not be quite as good as subsequent Zelda adventures, but it is still a fantastic game and the basis for most adventure games that followed. If you have never played it, you can get a copy for 200 coins.

Touch Solitaire is a DSiWare version of solitaire, not much else to say. It is 150 coins and only redeemable on the 3DS eShop. Sorry to those poor souls who still have to use the DSi Shop.

Finally Art Style: PiCTOBiTS is a DSiWare puzzle game featuring many Nintendo, 8-bit themed puzzles. This goes for 200 coins and is redeemable on the 3DS eShop.

If you want these games act fast; they will be replaced on October 12 with, presumably, eight new games.

A remake of Xenoblade Chronicles is coming to the New Nintendo 3DS models, announced this morning.

During a Japanese Nintendo Direct, it was stated that this this remake is only now possible with the upgraded CPU power of the New 3DS units, meaning that they won't be playable on the older 3DS, 3DS XL, and 2DS units. It will also take advantage of the extra inputs found on these upcoming new models. Other new Nintendo 3DS titles for these systems are also in the works.

Xenoblade Chronicles was thoroughly loved and well-reviewed by the staff of Nintendo World Report and pretty much every other gaming website, receiving a 92 overall rating on Megacritic. The JRPG follows the story of Shulk, who fights against the Mechons, using the Monado, with some help from friends. It is also currently slated for a Wii U follow-up, Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Miyamoto may be upending the casual tea table.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38374/miyamoto-comments-on-a-focus-shift-away-from-casual-gaming-finds-the-passive-attitude-pathetic

Shigeru Miyamoto commented on an intention for Nintendo to shift their focus away from casual gaming in an interview with Edge Magazine.

A Nintendo executive and the creator of Mario and Zelda, among other franchises, Miyamoto gave his thoughts on what he calls the "passive attitude" of casual gamers. He states that they take a stance where they say, "Okay, I am the customer. You are supposed to entertain me." He cites this attitude as being "pathetic" saying, "They do not know how interesting it is if you move one step further and try to challenge yourself [with more advanced games]."

Miyamoto says that today "because of the spread of smart devices, people take games for granted." He views it as a positive, due to its meaning to him of Nintendo no longer having to worry about making games "relevant to people's daily lives."

The biggest (or pretty popular at least) icons in gaming team up.

Only one game this week, but for many a gamer, it's a big one. Get ready for all the fanfiction, character shipping, and all around hoopla that will most certainly come from this game.

Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney $29.99, August 29

The Professor Layton and Ace Attorney series are experiencing what we video game journalists call a "crossover." The average plebeian may not understand but I will explain. The two different kinds of gameplay found in the separate games are being combined into an all new story where the characters must team up to help a girl who is accused of being a witch.

Will you be picking up this game, or do you simply object to the idea of this crossover?

TalkBack / Dream Game: Muppet Simulator
« on: August 19, 2014, 11:10:45 AM »

In honor of the Blu-ray release of Muppets Most Wanted, Zack has thought up what might be the greatest game idea in history.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/dreamgame/38294/dream-game-muppet-simulator

Muppets Most Wanted was just released on Blu-ray so now, more than ever, is an appropriate time to talk about Muppets. If there is one media format that they have been sorely lacking quality content in, it’s video games. Thankfully, as NWR's resident Muppet maniac, I have an idea for a Muppet game.

If there is one area of gaming the Muppets have succeeded in recently it is mobile games.. For those unfamiliar, My Muppets Show it is a mobile game where you manage your own Muppet Theater. I would love to see this concept be taken and made into a full-fledged retail release on 3DS.

Simply titled Muppet Simulator 2015, a play on the deluge of "simulator" games out there (Goat, Farm, Train, Bus, etc,).  Muppets Simulator would start with a tutorial that would have players doing Kermit’s job while he's away, presumably back at the swamp. The game would feature three modes. Endless Mode would have players managing the Muppet Theater which would go on until the player runs out of money. A leader board would also be available to compare financial success to players worldwide. Along the way it would also be possible to create advertisements for your theater to share on Miiverse.

The second mode of the game would be Challenge, which would have different problems arising in the theater with various Muppets giving the player the task of solving their dilemmas. One possible example is that Fozzie could have lost a banana for his gag and can’t go on stage until the player finds it. Each challenge is scored and you can share your results online.

History Mode, my personal favorite, is a trip through The Muppet Show's five seasons. Each of the guest stars would be featured in a series of challenges, one for each episode. While that may seem impossible to do with copyright issues, this is only an idea so we don't really need to worry about at this stage.

While in History Mode, players would be in charge of managing the theater during each star's appearance in a series of 120 challenges. Each challenge would have a set of "Muppechivements" that would unlock music, pictures, or the occasional video from the episodes. This is notable because it would be the only 3DS game to feature performers kids these days would have no idea existed. Mummenschanz anyone? Muppet trivia would be unlocked and the entire mode could educate kids as to how the TV they have today is crap compared to what the Muppet show did in the 70s and 80s.

As a bonus, if a player fully finishes History mode, they would unlock the entirety of Muppet Vision 3D. As an attraction at both the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts, its inclusion would be significant because it was Jim Henson's last work with the Muppets before his passing. It would be the first time it could be viewed officially at home and in 3D.

I have some ideas in my head for a Wii U Muppet game, and don’t worry it isn’t Call of Fozzie: Waka Waka Warfare, so be sure to let me know if you liked this. If you didn't, you can join Staler and Waldorf in the balcony for some quality heckling.

TalkBack / August Brings Eight Games from Club Nintendo
« on: August 05, 2014, 01:26:00 PM »

If you can't find something you like, maybe you just don't like Nintendo?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38221/august-brings-eight-games-from-club-nintendo

There are eight games up as rewards this month for Club Nintendo, a nice change of pace from the usual four.

First up is the Mario game that really wasn't originally a Mario game. Super Mario Bros. 2 was a bit of a departure from its fellow 2D titles because of this, but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing and many gamers are still big fans. You can get it for 200 coins on the Wii U Virtual Console.

Excitebike, despite being available in a 3D version on the 3DS, is the second game being offered up. This NES classic in its original form is 200 coins for the Wii U Virtual Console.

Star Fox 64 may be most well known for Peppy's famous line "Do a barrel roll!" but fans still love it for its high replay value. The game may be short but you will be sure to go back again and again for new paths and secrets. This is available on the Wii Virtual Console and Wii Mode on Wii U for 250 coins.

Vegas Stakes may be available on the Wii U Virtual Console, but for 250 coins you can claim the Wii version. You can of course upgrade your copy for the small sum of $1.50.

The 3DS also has four games available this month: Baseball (Game Boy), Puzzle League Express (DSiWare), Mario Golf (Game Boy Color) and Dr. Mario Express (DSiWare) each for 200 coins. Be sure to be timely with your redemption because they will only be around until September 7.
