I have high hopes that this game will make it stateside, as a lot of people in the US have such fond memories of Chrono Trigger.
There seems to be something special about Skip Ltd. and I'm sure Giftpia will be a game to remember.

You're not allowed to link to images. Not that I agree, but that is the rule, and I don't want my linking rights taken away.

But it's my image host.  I found the pictures myself and hosted them.

Oh ok I totally don't care then. Of course these control freaks might start going crazy about you stealing pics but whatever.
Anyway, I don't think Nintendo's worried at all about bringing this game here. But then again they never though Animal Crossing or Pokemon would work here...

Is this the Olimario from the IGN boards with the Lilo and Stitch Icon?

Anyways... hey... they brought over Animal Crossing and Cubivore (although Atlus published it) so there's a chance right?

I hope this makes it stateside, my interest in this game is quite high and it'll certainly help round out the GCN line-up

This game could be my sleeper hit of the year.

Past Sleeper hit of the year:
2002 - Animal Crossing
2001 - Pikmin

Im not really too interested in this game.  If the whole thing is focused on getting enough money, well, I don't need another Animal Crossing.  But I'll see how it turns out... not that I can afford much beyond the essentials anyway (Zelda, Pokemon MMORPG, et cetera).

Nice graphical style... not great, but nice.  Really looks cool, but just lacks... well, it lacks... it lacks.  Maybe it looks a little too hollow, too... I have no idea.

Seriosuly, are you THE Olimario from IGN? If so, I think you can guess who I am. Anyway, I REALLY hope this game comes stateside. I've been in an RPG mood for a while andone more certain couldn't hurt, especially one that looks as unique as Giftpia.

Hey Mouse_Clicker.
Have you used your IGN account at all?

Anyhow... I have a lot of faith in Skip Ltd... They sound like a company who pours their heart into their work.

Is Giftpia supposed to be somewhat like Animal Crossing? Or is it more kin to a standard RPG? It looks like something I'd want to check out, but I already own AC and plan to buy AC2 as soon as it comes out. I'm not sure I really need any more games of that kind.

It's described as an 'Alernative RPG', but I don't expect it to be anything like Animal Crossing.
I think we'll see a game more along the lines of Chrono Trigger, albeit on a smaller scale land wise.
This game seems to focus on a town.

It looks great to me. Graphically and gameplay-wise (perhaps) like Chrono Trigger meets Animal Crossing.  Ive heard that in the gameplay, you are trying to save/enlighten the people in your town, you collect and give items--"gifts" to bring utopia, you talk with lots of characters, you have various sidekicks including a speaking goat, and there is a fairly complex magic system.

olimario- Not for like a year, since they locked the boards last February. But Conker and a couple other guys convince someone to pay for Insider for me for a year. I haven't been on the boards much since I pretty much hate most of the people there, but I use the account to it's fullest extent on articles and reviews and stuff.

You can download the Giftpia theme song on ign's Giftpia page.

This is my #1 most anticipated game!! Has anyone gotten the video of it on Planet GameCube's site to work, because i can't. (hint, hint moderators)

I dont think it will be anything like Animal Crossing, because it obviously has a plot, so it won't be as aimless and care-free as Animal Crossing is. It also looks like there are SPECIFIC jobs to be done to progress through the story-line. Also, there is no battle system.

There might be a battle system. I think that in one of the shots, I saw a heart meter.

edit: here is the heart meter

I read in a preview that there is no battle system, but i can't find which preview. Maybe the hearts are for some sort of mini-game?

Also, does anyone have any clue what the clock on that screen means? I also saw some downloadable version of the clock on the japanese giftpia website, (www.skiptokyo.com) but it wouldn't do anything when I downloaded it.

i like the look of this game very much
but i heard this is not a traditional rpg
i heard there are no battles to fight and the game is more along the lines of animal crossing (with a story.......sort of)
of course i do not know, but i think i heard this from www.the-magicbox.com
it still looks awesome to me
most answers will be given to us by april (its release in japan)

edit-- i just read about a game called moon developed by the people making giftpia
moon was an rpg without battles and totally non-linear
from what i read on moon and giftpia- they sound alike
if you get a chance- read about it- it was on psx and only released in japan
if giftpia turns out like that- it will definately be very good
i call the big one bitey.

Is there any chance that NOA will bring this stateside???
Its was released in Japan on April 25th and there has been no announcement made to localize it.  This makes me sad.  Nintendo prove me wrong!!!
