40 levels.  Is level 35 the one with the five doors triggered by the five pressure sensitive switches?  That one's pretty frustrating.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Has anyone here who played through Portal also played through Episode 2?

Yeah, that was shocking. Also, some of the schematic textures in the game's .GCF files say the ship was transporting a GLaDOS!

37 is the level I'm on.  I've tried it a ton of times and keep screwing up, although I know how to do it... so very close....

I got throught 37 after 2-3 more attempts,  but now I'm not to sure what to do on lvl 38.
I look at it again later.

edit: Actually lvl 38 was pretty easy, I just realized that I can pick up and move objects, that amkes things a whole lot easier. onto lvl 39

GRRRRR Can't beat 35. The sign doesn't lie. Where are you guys placing your portals??? Right now, it's close, but I don't see how it's possible to get the next doors open in time. It always bounces back and forth once while I'm sitting on the next button twiddling my thumbs.

Colors used to make sure ou know which portal to move and which one has to stay.

1.) place one portal(blue) above the right button up top
2.) place portal 2(yellow) on the wall next to the button in front of you.
3.) wait for a new energy bubble, to go past the first door, then go through the portal infront of you.
4.) quickly jump onto the upper button on the left.
5.) run and jump off the edge of the upper platform and over the wall that you had the (yellow)portal on.
6.) stand on the button and shoot a new portal(yellow) on the wall infront of you
7.) jump though the portal(yellow) infront of you and land on the upper button on the right (directly below the blue portal)
8.) Now shoot a portal straight across the room onto the wall next to the last button in the upper right corner of the room.
9.) Now also shoot a portal on the floor next to the button you are currently standing on.

But I don't have a video card yet, I'm not sure if my computer will run it.

Hmm, well that is a problem. What kind of onboard graphic chip do you have?

Thanks for the tips, BnM, with those steps I came in and beat the crap out of it on the first try. I think my problem was less-than-optimal portal placement.

I then went on to beat the rest of the levels. Fun time! Bill, I watched that video, and now I'm seriously going to have to try to pick up the Orange Box. I have a MacBook Pro with a pretty decent video card, so rrunning it (w/ Parallels) shouldn't be a problem...

The good news is that with a 16x PCIe slot, you've got free reign to get a new video card if you want one.  I don't know about the specific chipset your mobo has, but you'll see a major improvement even with a relatively cheap video card just for the faster dedicated memory.  A last generation DirectX 9 capable card would be more than enough for the Orange Box.

maybe on my next paycheck, but I have been planning to get HL2 for quite some time now, but Portal and Team Fortress 2 are just extra icing on the cake.

That motherboard has a built-in Intel graphics chip, which probably wouldn't run games very well.

However, as Partybear said, it's still a good motherboard and it's got a 16x PCI Express slot, so it should be easy to find a good video card for rather cheap.

Hmm... I remember hearing that there was a Radeon x1950 Pro available somewhere for $120, but I haven't been able to find it. I'll keep looking. If you can find it, that would probably be the best bet.

Yeah, I'd say something in the X1950 family would be the best you could get in that price range, and it'll be good enough for pretty much any game currently out.  I've been thinking of buying one myself as a stopgap so I can put off building a new computer until next year.

Well, all I can tell you is that I own cards made by Powercolor and Sapphire, and haven't had any problems.  I don't know if any of them have a reputation, good or bad.

Sapphire is great quality for how inexpensive they are. We've sold a number of them here and I think only one ever got warrantied. Personally I'd go for a Nivdia Dx10 card right now just for the future compatibility.

Any one of them would be fine for that class of GPUs. The HIS seems to be the overall most aggressively clocked. Not bad for $170 after MIR. But if you want a single-slot card, the Sapphire has only a bit less juice than the HIS and is a bit cheaper.

Regarding DX10 support: You can also get an 8600 GTS with similar performance and DX10 compatibility at roughly the same price points here, which may be an overall better option.
"wow."
