WHAT ON EARTH? This can't be true. PS3 THIS YEAR?

PS3 THIS year, says BLOOMBERG.

This has to be utter nonsense.  I just can't imagine this being true.  Anyone???

I absolutely REFUSE to believe this until I see hard evidence.  It just doesn't make any sense to release it now, what with PS2's huge market lead and especially since they're still supposedly developing Cell.

We'll see.

Yeah, who in his right mind could believe it?  Bloomberg isn't a half-bad source, I GUESS, but still.  This is madness.

IIRC I think Sony denied it and it also would not make much sense. They are still doing well with the PS2 so I think they will try to get as much out of it as possible.

Sony has already denied it. It doesn't make any sense either. Everyone will know very well in advance when the PS3, Xbox2 and GC2 will be out. Ten months isn't enough time to make the games for it / make it / produce it , etc.

The story happened yesterday?  Where did Sony deny it?  Where are you getting this?

Anyway, I didn't believe it for a second, but the source, Bloomberg, had me at least thinking about it.  I realize how long it takes to make games, what I was asking was if anyone had any actual information on this.  For instance, a response from Sony, a substantiation from another site, etc.

It's absolutely preposterous that Sony would release PS3 this year, OF COURSE, but here's the story  nonetheless.

i sure hope not....it is way too early imo. i dont think its in their best interest, or in the best interest of the gaming industry. they are going to shoot themselves in the foot with all this talk. peole will stop buying ps2, cuz ps3 is just around the corner. i for one will not buy a ps2 now, but i will get a ps3......even though i dot believe this article, i think that it may come out sooner then most suspect.

when it comes to the gaming industry, the popular media often gets things wrong or falls victim to corporate hornblowing.

A friend sent me THIS LINK from Xen Gamers, and it confirms that Sony denied this story from the pop-press.

It kills me how people can either make this crap up or completely botch the information they DO have.  Everyone in his right mind would say releasing this year would be a HUGE mistake, so the story was maddening, but it was there nonetheless.

At least it's 100% put to rest now.

Well that's good.  I would think Sony, even if they had one in the works, would wait about showing a next-generation console until they give their PS2 some more lifetime on the shelf.

a lot of people believe sony will be late with the ps3.  No developement systems have been even made yet, and looks like it will be a while until they come.  This is mostly due to the new complex cell chip.  Most insiders are thinking 2006 for the ps3.
Where as nintendo and ms are more likely to use derivatives of stock pc hardware which will mean as soon as they determine prototype specs for their machines developement can begin.  Although you could always start ahead of recieving the developement material and just modify things as needed.

I think it was bloomsbergg who said nintendo was merging with capcom. utter nonsense.

Well of course the PS3's in development- not only would Sony have to be CRAZY not to be at least researching it, I believe they've already released a few details (something along the lines of it being soley online, games being downloaded, and the PS3 online network combining the processing power of all the PS3's to insure good speed).

Haha, yeah! I think Pikmin should be on "What the..?" too. And Tingle from The Legend of Zelda.
