This is what I wanted to know, boooo. Glad I didn't get my hopes up, but hey... Mortal Kombat on a Nintendo home console since... Geez, GameCube?!

Couldn't watch the Awards due to some house moving drama last night, but from the looks of things nothing of any major consequence was announced. I think the only items of interest for me were the Stanley Parable re-release & that middling trailer for Joker in Smash.

They should move The Game Awards to E3 or something to build some press and hype around the awards. They're so underwhelming now.

Wouldn't really make any sense to have a "X Game of the Year" award in any month other than December...

How can you declare a game the game of the year when there are still a few games to be released that year after it?
That said, Emmy's go by a July - June period for their awards. So, their best of the year isn't an actual calendar year. Oscars are in February and they are going by calendar year release date/showing in an American theatre. Game Awards are so close to the end of the year, they might as well go for the full calendar year instead of the early cutoff but then that might put them in competition with all the other entertainment award shows that happen at this time of year. If Emmy's can do a different time period requirement then the Game Awards could shift the time they judge as well. You just don't call the winner the best of the year but simplify it to Best/Outstanding Game similar to Best Motion Picture or Outstanding Drama Series.
Also, highly sure that RaymondPa is a spambot so I wouldn't worry too much about its thoughts.

The awards should totally move to January, but December is the decided "year in review" month.

Do the eSports awards if you must, but otherwise announce the nominees for real awards (like the DICE or AIAS) ones if you must have a reveal festival at the end of the year.
