« on: January 14, 2012, 03:54:52 PM »

The president of Nintendo of America explains why this year's hardware sales are a good sign of things to come.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime sought to spin Wii sales numbers in a good light in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times.

When asked about the console losing steam, Fils-Aime viewed it not as something negative, but rather a positive progression leading up to the release of Wii U. "The Wii is now approaching 40 million homes here in the United States, so from a penetration standpoint we're beginning to top out in terms of the total number of systems sold," he said. "That's why it makes so much sense to prepare for the launch of the Wii U."

Although Fils-Aime didn't offer any new information regarding the Wii U, he did comment that despite consumer hesitance, the Wii U "is going to bring gaming to a whole new experience."

TalkBack / All 50 WiiWare Demos Reappear at Once
« on: January 12, 2012, 05:02:12 PM »

Wii owners can now grab any once-expired demo on the service.

Every WiiWare demo on the Wii Shop Channel is available again for download.

The service grew quiet in September, with the last available demo being offered for Microforum's 3D Pixel Racing. Unannounced, Nintendo has made every single trial accessible to Wii owners who may have missed out. It is not clear how long they will remain available.

The service was originally announced by Satoru Iwata during a Q&A session in 2009, where he explained that the intention was to offer the demos with limited availability, and for new ones to be put up as older ones expired.

TalkBack / Kid Icarus: Uprising Comes with 3DS Stand
« on: January 12, 2012, 04:48:48 PM »

The new peripheral allows 3DS owners to keep their system steady while playing.

Kid Icarus: Uprising is shipping with a special 3DS stand when it releases in Japan this March, according to Project Sora head Masahiro Sakurai.

The stand was revealed on the developer's Twitter as a way to keep the system still while playing Kid Icarus. He further explained that the stand is compatible with all other 3DS games, and suggests that it proves especially useful when playing games heavily reliant on the touch screen.

The 3DS stand is the second peripheral confirmed to be usable with Kid Icarus, as Sakurai also revealed that the game will use the Circle Pad Pro for left-handed functionality.

As of right now, the peripheral is only confirmed to be bundled with Japanese copies of the game, although announcements for other territories may soon follow.

Update: Nintendo confirmed that the stand will ship with the game in all regions.

Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 274: In the Year Two-Thousaaaaaaand

Great episode.

I was hoping you guys would get specific on what you thought Miyamoto's next character/game would be. Personally, I've always wondered what an EAD developed RPG would be like (Yes, Intelligent Systems is first party, but EAD is where most of the crazy ideas take place, even if they turn into safety franchises later).

Also, I'm a little scared of letting Good Feel take Yoshi's Island. I wasn't a big fan of Epic Yarn, and I really don't want that franchise to make any drastic changes (like focusing on collectibles and making it impossible to die). In my opinion, Retro or EAD should be the only ones allowed to make a new YI game. With that said, Retro is working on something (supposedly) far more important, and I have little confidence that EAD wouldn't just push it towards another developer. If that's the case, I guess I would be willing to give GF one more chance, so long as they don't ruin what made the original so great.
