Episode 573: The Eighth Wonder of the World
« on: May 27, 2018, 09:31:03 AM »

Vaudeville's got nothing on us.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/47302/episode-573-the-eighth-wonder-of-the-world

I'm not going to top last week for irreverent ways to mention that Jon isn't able to join us this week, so just imagine I rewrote a passage from James Joyce and we'll proceed.

James begins the proceedings with a look at Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory, for Switch. Yet again, he's giving impressions for a game he's already reviewed, but at least he liked this one! Greg just got Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, so of course he's already beaten it. As an experienced hand at the Castlevania oeuvre, he's well suited to take a BITE out of this game. I am without shame; come at me. Guillaume took a look at the new content in Gorogoa. He then gives his impressions of Runner3, and the wisdom of pre-ordering digital merchandise. Lastly, he looks at the well-produced by seemingly bog-standard puzzle game Sushi Striker demo.

After the break we get through a staggering THREE emails. We stream Resident Evil 7 to Switch, forget eras of Nintendo history, and design a game that would make the ESRB raters sweat. You can send us your Pizza Pasta-lead spin-offs via our inbox.

We are two episodes away from our RetroActive on Henry Hatsworth. You know the deal, impressions go in the talkback.

The more Jon is gone, the more this reminds me of that stint on the daily show where John Oliver came up with countless excuses for why Jon Stewart was gone for the summer.

Only listened to the first half hour so far, but James mentions not liking to talk about games he's already published the review for. James, don't worry. It's not like RFN listeners actually read NWR. After you and Jon stopped doing Now Playing, we've been completely in the dark on what the Koopster and NWR Site Director Neal Ronaghan have been up to. ;)

As for explaining Jon's absences with classic literature, let's pretend instead of being stuck at work, he was entranced by his backlog. I'm sure Jon is a big fan of Moby Dick, so we can explain it thusly:

It's a mild, mild day and a mild looking backlog and the air of the Wing of Shame smells as if it blew from the shadow of the Velothi Mountains where the village-strippers laid down with their bones.

I looked at my backlog and lo, I saw all the greynesses of all the cartridges of all time. The NES greynesses. The Super NES greynesses. The greynesses of all the panicked games which rise from the deeps, where they have lain so far down in the Tomb for so long they have no backup batteries and rise blank to the surface.

The great jets of tub time, the fountains of The Great Fairy somehow put in the throne room and sprinkling the deeps of cartridges with the gigantic founts of sparkling 360 and Wii U games.

Call me Lindemann.

Genre Franchise Mix & Match:

Kirby x Adventures of Lolo RPG

Captain Rainbow x Tingle, a puzzle action game where you rescue lost Nintendo characters.

A Harvest Moon-style simulation game starring Malon and Saria of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

A Road Rash-style game featuring Urban Champion and Mach Rider.

Lastly, not really a genre mashup, but a good idea nonetheless!:

Famicom Detective Club x Hotel Dusk: Who Killed Spike?

Who among the Mario Universe characters are guilty of offing adorable, little Spike? It's up to the team of Amachi and Kyle to find out!

This is almost painfully accurate. I frequently forget that there actually is a website, and not some figment of the podcasters imagination. Hence why it's taken me till today to make an account. Despite being an avid listener for years.

Don't expect me to be very active though... :-P

I'm afraid to look at the Fallen Legion review's stats.

It makes me sad since I busted my ass to try to hit embargo on it. Ah well. If some people read it, and decide if it makes sense for them, then it was worth it. It's not like when you're reviewing straight trash that everyone knows is trash. That is a Keynesian Job!

Hilarious how James ended with "Unless Nintendo makes some crazy announcement" and then the new Pokemon games were announced.
TVman is dead. I killed him and took his posts.
