TalkBack / Re: Dead Rising Receiving a Wii Port
« on: July 17, 2008, 11:15:23 AM »
Hopefully this game will prove the Wii can handle the same games the 360 and PS3 can which will open the door to more multi-platform titles in addition to the expected exclusives. The majority of the 360/PS3's extra power goes to HD graphics anyway. So taking away the HD and maybe lowering the textures and polygon count a little if necessary should make this and any other title playable on the Wii with the unique controls making up for the compromised graphics which won't even be all that noticeable on a standard television.

I see no reason RE5 can't appear on the Wii as well. It's really nothing but RE4 with HD graphics.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo E3 Press Conference

Back in the days when Nintendo was facing an uphill battle we'd of probably seen footage of a new Zelda title, along with many other reveals. But with the Wii essentially raping the competition, Nintendo obviously feels no need to reveal much of anything.

Animal Crossing is pretty much what it needs to be. It doesn't need a complete overhaul. The new features we've seen so far warrant an upgrade over whatever version you currently have. I suspect the game will also interact with the DS version which could be further justification for the nearly identical graphics.

Wii Music, like Wii Sports and Wii Fit, will have to be experienced first-hand to truly appreciate.

Wii Sports Resort is sure to be awesome and it will nice to finally have true 1:1 support.

Zelda, Pikmin, Punchout, Kid Icarus, Starfox, FZero and all the other franchises we wanted to see are likely being developed as we speak along with original titles we'd never expect. From Nintendo as well as third-parties who have no doubt finally accepted that the Wii isn't just a fad but infact the leading console this generation. We're just going to have to wait a little while to see anything major, unfortunately.

53
It's fair to be upset at Konami for treating the Wii so poorly in its first year or so but can't we take this announcement as a sign that it's now making an effort.
I mean this is 1) one of Konami's biggest franchises 2) a 3D fighting game, a genre that the Wii needs more of and 3) a "hardcore" title that will probably get at least a "T" rating which shows they don't see the Wii as a kiddy/uber-casual console afterall.

Also being the first next-gen console with a Castlevania title (not to mention all the previous entries available on the VC) makes the Wii all the more likely to get the next true installment.

54
You all need to chill. Konami is giving us an exclusive game featuring one of its most prominent franchises.
This is good news and you're all acting like we've been done wrong. I mean this is the problem with Nintendo fans, they want third-party support and when they get it they bitch about it not being good enough.
Sure if we end up getting this and missing out of the next "true" Castlevania game it would suck but that's yet to be confirmed. We could still very well get that as well. Or the series could remain on the DS where it probably belongs. If there is a PS3/360 version in the works (which I doubt) it's most likely a full, free-roaming 3D title that will almost certainly suck and be even less of a "true" Castlevania to fans.

Besides this might just end up being a damn good game.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo to Announce New Titles for Core Gamers at E3
« on: June 20, 2008, 11:53:56 AM »
I'd say a new, in-house developed Star Fox with true co-op and online play would be the best bet to please the "core" gamers. A sequel to Mario Galaxy, a new Pikmin, Animal Crossing, FZero, and maybe even a new Zelda title are also likely candidates. Plus I think we'll see what Retro has been working on. A wireless nunchuck and "storage solution" would also appease the hardcore.

As for the casuals. A new Mario Party is a sure bet and maybe Nintendogs - a title I'm just amazed Nintendo has waited this long to release. Talk about a guaranteed mega hit.

56
A hard-drive isn't necessary and would no doubt be abused by certain developers.
SD cards are cheap and offer plenty of extra storage space. I really hope Nintendo goes this route.
In fact I suspect Nintendo has planned on this from the start but simply chose not to allow direct-play from the SD cards early on to keep the hackers from finding ways of abusing it. Now that extra storage space is necessary it's time to make the compromise.

57
The PSP is weird. I mean even Sony seemed to write it off as a failure not long ago (along with most gamers of the world) but it's had this uncanny resurgence of popularity in Japan even though the amount of games that have actually sold well on it could be counted on one hand. Nintendo should release a successor to or at least another revision of the DS to put an end to this non-sense already.

58
I don't see the waggle as a fad. I mean games that over-use or mis-use it are annoying but the concept of shaking the controller as an alternative to pressing a button is sound. It simplifies the control scheme and makes the experience more interactive. Mario Strikers used it brilliantly, after getting used to shaking the remote to smack an opposing team-mate it would be hard to go back to having to press a button for the same effect.

I think the waggle is more like the shoulder buttons of the SNES days. Shoulder buttons have become a standard for controllers but back in the early SNES days developers often didn't know what to do with these new buttons and used them for trivial things. Even the SNES's flagship title Mario World merely used them to scroll the screen which was pretty much pointless and I doubt anyone bothered doing so more than once or twice just for the novelty of it.

I bet Nintendo has a nearly complete Nintendogs for Wii to be revealed at E3 and released this Fall.

TalkBack / Re: April NPD: Nintendo Unfazed By Competition
« on: May 27, 2008, 06:17:20 PM »
It's amazing that Mario Kart Wii beat the PS3 version of GTA4 and that Nintendo still sold twice as well as its competition combined even with the month's (and probably the year's..) biggest game being denied it.
Nintendo has won this generation. Hands down.

TalkBack / Re: Penny Arcade Adventures Can't Come to WiiWare
« on: May 15, 2008, 06:59:15 AM »
I can almost guarantee that Nintendo has a hard-drive add-on ready for a reveal at or around E3 and a release date set just soon after.

The fact that it will be an accessory to be purchased separately will actually benefit the Wii in the long-term.
If the Wii had a hard-drive from the start developers would have flooded it with bloated games and patches - the usual garbage. But the fact that the majority of non-hardcore Wii owners will never have one and stick to the supplied internal memory will prevent things from going down that route, while still supplying the hardcore VC/Wiiware downloaders a viable solution.

62
A Wii Sports (or even Wii Play) sequel could change the outlook for the rest of the year. Who knows, Nintendo might even have a Zelda or Mario Galaxy sequel to reveal at E3. Or a new Nintendogs which could end up being one of the biggest Wii successes yet.

TalkBack / Re: Reggie Promises It All for E3
« on: March 18, 2008, 03:27:01 AM »
My predictions:

- PIKMIN 3

This one is a given. The only surprise is we HAVEN'T seen it yet.

- ANIMAL CROSSING

Another given.

- MARIO PARTY 9

Even more of a given. Let's just hope this one steps it up.

- Nintendogs for Wii

A Wii version of the DS MEGA-HIT seems inevitable to me.
The Wii-mote will allow for a new dimension of puppy-interactivity. I also suspect it will have online features as well as the ability to swap your puppy between your Wii and DS.

- KIRBY!!!

That Kirby game that was supposed to have been on the Gamecube is sure to find new life on the Wii.
I suspect it's arriving much later than Paper Mario and Barrel Blast simply because they're taking more care to make it a true Wii experience. I hope.

- POKEMON RPG

It won't be the MMORPG that people are hoping for and will never get but I think a REAL Pokemon RPG with online elements is coming late this year.

- SUPER MARIO GALAXY pt 2

Ok this seems far-fetched but hear me out. Without spoiling anything the game does drop a major hint that this is coming.
The engine is too good not to get more use out of and as amazing as the first one was there is so much more untapped potential.
I think we've only just begun to see what Mario's Galaxy has to offer and a part two is right around the corner.

TalkBack / RE: VC Releases Slow To Trickle
« on: January 28, 2008, 07:36:17 AM »
This makes me wonder if third-parties are now shying away from the VC.
Perhaps they've decided their games just aren't being downloaded enough to warrant future support.
Or maybe Nintendo has simply realized The Wii has another four of five years to go and they gotta pace the updates to last until the end.
Besides, it may be just ONE game, but it IS a first-party N64 game and one of the best for that matter.

TalkBack / RE:New VC Games Announced
« on: January 21, 2008, 03:04:30 PM »
I'm torn. I love Street Fighter 2 but didn't download the previous incarnations as I was waiting for this definitive version.
Now I'm hesitant. Sure this does have the most content of all the SF2 incarnations on the SNES but it's also the least memorable version and, with a couple of exceptions, most of the new fighters failed to catch on with fans as much as the original fighters did. Perhaps I should stick with one of the classic incarnations after all.

If Galaxy continues its legs it should easily reach a million and then some.
It's the exact opposite of Mario Sunshine which sold quite well at first and then dropped like a rock.

DKC3 was a solid platformer, but there was just something "off" about it. The fact that it only allows you to play as a little girl or a toddler doesn't help its appeal either.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Super Mario Galaxy
« on: December 10, 2007, 10:13:30 PM »
Linear is NOT a bad thing. All the classic Mario titles were linear. Galaxy is like the classic Mario games finally brought properly into 3D. Leave the bulk of exploring and puzzle solving to Zelda. Mario is about platforming action and this is where Galaxy is leaps and bounds better than 64 and Sunshine. The challenge of a Mario game should be over-coming obstacles and enemies to reach your goal, not figuring out what and where your goal is.
In fact, the only missions in Galaxy I didn't enjoy were the few that involved EXPLORING for coins.
Like it or not this is what the Wii is all about. It's about games that are just FUN. They don't have to be technologically advanced, they don't have to have complicated controls that take hours to learn, and they don't have to be free-roaming or open-ended just because that's the way gaming has been headed for ten years. None of these things makes games any more fun. Or any better.

TalkBack / RE:Japanese Weekly Charts for Nov. 26-Dec. 2
« on: December 07, 2007, 11:04:50 PM »
Mario Galaxy sold more in its first weeks than MOST games will EVER sell. It far from bombed.
3D platformers just aren't a favored genre in Japan. Perhaps Mario's next console adventure should feature more 2D gameplay. Galaxy had a little of it, and maybe the sequel will see much more.

The Japanese haven't turned their back on Mario. Look how successful NEW SUPER MARIO BROS was. MARIO PARTY 8 also sold really well.
It's just that 3D platformers have never been big in the region.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: What Brawl update would make you say MEGATON?
« on: November 27, 2007, 01:30:55 PM »
I too once thought that we'd only get one or two third-party characters MAX but that expectation was blown away with the inclusion of a third-party trophy character, Saki Amamiya from Sin and Punishment, as well as Sakurai's attached quote: "There were many requests from users for his inclusion, and he IS pretty cool, so I did what I could to include him. After all, this game does let you enjoy a dream cast of supporting characters!" .

I think popular characters from Nintend-friendly developers like Capcom, Namco, and even Square are a sure bet.
If not as playable characters then AT LEAST as assist trophies.

I'm going to make a prediction right now.
Playable: Megaman. Pacman. Moogle.
Assist Trophies: Viewftiful Joe, Chrono, Dracula.

TalkBack / RE: Happy Birthday Wii!
« on: November 18, 2007, 10:48:07 PM »
It's funny. I doubt even the most optimistic Nintendo fan could have guessed the Wii would be THIS big.
Not only did the console win over the world, more amazingly, so did the name, which quickly became a non-issue as the Wii became a global phenomenon.

TalkBack / RE: Wii Outselling PlayStation 3 2-to-1 in Japan
« on: November 03, 2007, 07:56:43 PM »
Don't forget that the PSP actually sold better than the DS for a good part of it's first year in Japan. It wasn't until titles like Nintendogs and Brain Age came out that the DS became the unstoppable machine it's become.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Wii love friend codes
« on: October 26, 2007, 02:04:33 AM »
Friend codes do make the online play process more difficult but, truthfully, that's exactly why Nintendo is implementing them.
It may take a LITTLE more effort on our part but if it protects the younger fans and keeps pedos from easily contacting them, it's worth it.
I mean there may still be incidents but at least Nintendo will be able to safely say friend codes weren't exchanged over their own network.
Nintendo's idea of online play seems to be random battles with no communication and some degree of communication only when friend codes that are unique to each individual title are exchanged outside of the Wii network (in person, on a forum like this, etc...). It's not everyone's ideal and it's not XBox Live but it works. Besides, it's FREE.

I think after the second holiday season even Nintendo fans had to admit the Gamecube was in third place to stay.
If even Mario and Metroid couldn't change things, nothing would. Sure Zelda was on the horizon but it was too late.
If the Wii beats the 360 for the remainder of the year with Halo out of the way, it's pretty much set for first place this generation IMO.
If the PS3 sales don't miraculously increase 500% it's going to be the Gamecube of this generation if it's LUCKY. If sales don't at least double it might not even be a contendor at all.
