Super Mario Galaxy has returned to the 2nd highest rated title overall, on any platform. Zelda Ocarania of Time has taken back its number 1 position. In my books at least getting in the top 10 is a GIANT success.

Dang it! How many 10 out of 10 reviews do I have to write for Superman 64 so that it can take the top spot? And now Galaxy is horning in on the action. Just what I need. Another shark in the pond.

Well it was bound to happen since Galaxy's reviews went up. The more reviews a game gets the more likely it's average is to come down. If Ocarina of Time had to have over 90 reviews like Metriod Prime or Resident Evil 4 did then it would have a much lower score then it does.

If we went by what the average score is then this is what Gamerankings Top 10 should look like. Which means Mickey Mania for the Sega CD should be considered the greatest game of all time.

Even if Galaxy is no longer the best reviewed game ever the fact that the Wii has one of the best reviewed games ever in just a year is quite impressive.

I do not understand, I clicked your link and I got the same results, I did not see Mickey anywhere. Also, obviously you have not played Mickey Mania for it was the best first-person shooter that generation, and even now is pretty much unparalled.

Anyway, Ocarina of Time is the greatest game of all time, period. It would have been terrible if SMG actually stayed at #1 - what it has in fun and gameplay, it lacks in story, which is fine because it's a Mario game, but it would be a crime against humanity for anything to dethrone OoT.

OOT is overrated. It shouldn't have such a large lead. I also think SMG is overrated to some degree (it's great but not the best game ever) but it is the best 3D Mario game by far and if M64 gets into the top 10 SMG clearly deserves #1.

It's interesting.

The number of people who came out screaming that "this game isn't that great" after SMG was considered the highest rated game ever gives me some pause. I mean all these comments began absolutely the second it achieved that, many of them having the exact same terminology and phrases, all of them with a "God, I seriously only play this game because mom won't drive me to the arcade, GOD" sort of feeling.

Only Nintendo fans can actually bash Nintendo when it comes to determining whether or not they actually like a game, and whether or not the game is good.

Fully agreed. WW and TP are far better than OOT ever was.

And Mario 64 was greater than OOT . . . so Galaxy deserves the number one spot, in my opinion.

I'm not saying Mario lacks a story, but it's just not anywhere nearly as involved as Zelda's. The basics for each game's story are actually pretty similar - bad guy takes over kingdom (or creates a Galaxy in this one), kidnaps princess, and an unlikely hero saves the day.

I think he meant that WW and TP were based on OoT's template of a 3D Zelda, and did little to change it.

Yeah that is probably what he meant. Though personally I don't think that just because something innovated means it is the best. There are many products where while the first was innovated, future iterations were superior. Take the PC for example, are people going to argue the first PC is the best?

Yeah WW and TP were technically better games, but both had far less of an impact than Oot did. Mainly because it had already been done in Oot for the most part. Which is why neither received the same critical acclaim.
