General Gaming / RE: Why do nintendo fans hate Xbox so much?

Microsoft is often criticised for stealing the GUI from Apple. So, who cares? We're strongly against software patents and still we expect everyone not to take other's ideas? If an idea is good, it should be implemented into other systems. In fact, sometimes I wish MS would take a few more ideas from Linux and put them into Windows. So it's not like something is bad just because it's been done before (does NOT apply to abstract art!).

Don't look at internet forums for getting an idea of the average. Most casual people don't visit forums.

Uh, I witnessed someone playing it long ago, but at some point he said "It's over now, the thing costs money from now on"... Well, if irt's still free, I'll give it a try... Wait, my HD doesn't have any 600MB left... Oh well...

Hm, just a thought: Imagine individual goals, each character gets its own mission which might conflict with that of other characters (e.g.: 1: Bring the object foo to the shrine bar. 2: Prevent 1 from reaching the shrine alive, deliver the object to the evil lord.)... Dont thrust your "friend"... Paranoia Coop!

As for customizable cut scenes: If it's true that the players can choose their character among many (as the preview suggests) it's impossible to use FMVs that involve the characters. An intro and outro cutscene could be in nonetheless.

I'd like some sort of "light" multiplayer, which might lack a few features but gives you a taste whether or not you like it enough to justify buying GBAs...

Gaw, I assumed Link from Windwaker to be the same as all the other ones, because that "Hero of Time" stuff sounded to me like his live doesn't have to begin at the time the story starts, but could have been much later... And who says he doesn't live through the adventures in a totally weird order while the world around him thinks he is reborn every time ?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendo To Make Big Announcements?
« on: May 09, 2003, 08:50:13 PM »
It was confirmed that both Fear and Groud Zero were fakes.
And I doubt there will be anything at E3 we don't know about yet, given the fact how many things already leaked. But it's always nice to think "well, at least there's something big we haven't heard about!"

It is possible to design menus that don't take up more space than the little HUD-thing you get anyway. A GC-controller would have the advantage of having enough buttons to control the menu and game at the same time, while the GBA would need a switch-button.

Wha- This thing is real? I thought it was a fake from what they said about it. I think they were talking about unrealistic stats for the device (something like 3000 times the power of a P4 3GHz...). And it's going to use online downloads ONLY. The pic of it they had at some time looked fake and comments like "whoa, they should learn texturing" flew around. By the way, what controller would allow playing PC games as well as PS2/GC/XB?!?

Omen: If you're used to crap, you lower your standards so you don't feel THAT miserable.

oohhboy: Why? "Hip" and "trendy" is (in my oppinion) some form of insult, meaning you buy things for their "coolness", not their true value. But I have to agree, informed does not match. An informed person would know that the GC is not a kiddy-console, that the XBox has the lowest good-game count of all three consoles and that gameplay and optics have nothing in common.

I know exactly zero people with GBAs. But then, I also know about zero people who would want to play that with me.
If those GBAs are used to hide info, I hope for hidden attributes as well (like "reduces luck of all other party members by 1"). But I wonder how coop will work when you cannot trust your neighbour and everyone wants those dropped items? And will the GC controllers be used to their full potential or be restricted to the level of the GBA?

Exclusive: The topic of this thread is NOT praising the Gamecube, but searching for the reasons for the XBox-bashing. Unfortunately it went a bit off, but there are other threads here praising the Cube. Main argument is "good games".

Why hate the XBox? Well, the box itself is not evil, as guns are not evil . Nonetheless, Microsoft is evil. Just look at software patenting, etc for the proof. Sony (RIAA member) backed the DMCA, which is just as evil. Nintendo hasn't engaged much in US-politics so far.
The XBox fails my main expectation: To deliver an experience radically different from the PC.

PIAC: Oh, don't worry about that "cool" stuff. It's like that here in Germany and I expect it to be like that everywhere (AFAIK Japan is the most extreme). I think almost everybody just wants stuff for its coolness factor, to justify their "Alpha male" status. Why do you think humans compete with each other? Coolness is just one form of competition. And a Cube is not "cool". "Cool" means expensive (so less opponents have it) and more importantly, with mature content, to prove how "mature" you are. Coolness has nothing to do with factual value provided. You can try to push as many good games as you like, but a Cube is nothing you can impress opponents with. Not until you invite them to a few games, anyway. And they'll probably reject that offer.
About half of my friends think SSBM is crap (most of all the CS-nut), the other half aslmost begs "bring the cube!", most of which had an N64.

One warning: Don't get Lufia: The Legend Returns for GBC. The random maps just don't live up to Diablo2, but at least the save system is what I expect of CRPGs (you can save on savepoints permanently or save anywhere, but the latter savegame gets deleted upon load). Nonetheless, 20 levels all following the same pattern are no fun. All the time one hopes for the end of a dungeon.

And the preview for the GBA game suggests it uses random maps as well... Should be written on the box, if yes... stay away!

Imagine a geek developing some Perl-script that finds and deletes all Agents...

Or: killall -9 Agent

I don't even want to imagine what some people will do to that game...

Problem with Doom 3, HL2 and Halo 2 is: They're all FPS! There might be minor differences between each other, but most of the time they will be something along the lines of Kill Everything (TM). I got a console because almost all games on PC are FPS/RTS these days, so I'll definitely not buy any more FPS on any console (MP was an exception, it was much more brain-focused).

If they put Sonic into MK or SSB, then I demand Captain N and Ridley for SSB as well. But, of course, neither will happen.

The Cube was appealing for me because I could afford it. I had only 200EUR, not enough for the PS2 or XB. Casual buyers also care about the price. But, looking at the average liquidity of my sister (who I use as a good example for average people) even 200 is too much...

BTW, am I the only person that was so uninformed at time of buying that they didn't even know that XB/PS2 can play DVD?

Personally I'm hoping for a Donkey Kong game like the one on the GB, it was one of my favouite games (too bad it lacked replay value). As for Yoshi, I think Yoshi's Island was too easy. I'd prefer something like the old Super Mario Bros. games...

SARS can survive on dry surfaces for about 6 hours, but I believe even that won't allow it to survive the shipping.

The cube can't play DVDs... Maybe a problem for some. But that also means no modchip in the world can make the Cube play warez. Maybe a problem for even more.

I hope Nintendo won't try to appeal to the masses. Appealing to the masses means unneeded functionality, cool graphics and mature content. And of course countless rehashes of the same game over and over again. Gameplay isn't enough to attract a person who has never read a review. The masses are dumb, don't expect rational behaviour. How do you think EA hold their position? Innovative gameplay?
