...and withdraws their support for SOPA. Of course, this is probably just lip service. SOPA brings about bad press, and I'm sure Nintendo wants to distance themselves from it for that reason and that reason alone. Lest they end up like GoDaddy.

News Article

Regardless of what the article states, Sony is still onboard with the bill. Several of their subsidies can be found on the list. We already knew that Sony hates their customers though. :P

Edit: I didn't notice that this hit the main page of the site as well. Might be best to relegate discussion to that Talk Back thread.

General Gaming / Now Mario's Thinking with Portals...

  • Yes, this is an actual game being developed - it is not a mod of any existing one. It’s coded with Löve (info at the bottom of the left menu) and will be released for free (so we don’t get stabbed by lawyers)
  • All the source code of the game will be available after release
  • The game will have mappacks, which will be downloadable from ingame. Users most likely won’t be able to publish maps directly, but will be able to send them in and we’ll add them for everyone to use.
  • The primary maps will have a story and some portaly puzzles. What kind, well, we’ll figure that out as we go.
  • Level editor will be embedded in the game so you can edit the level while you play.
  • Original SMB levels and Lost levels will be included.
  • Simultaneous Multiplayer.

It's a well known conspiracy theory that Lettuce Cat is so last week. Mock me for being behind the times. actually has very little to do with lettuce at all. Sure, some people will try to claim Iceberg, Romaine, or even Arugula and Spinach. But me? I believe that leafy green face hides something much more sinister...

Help fight the good fight! Maybe we can see another win for consumer rights, in the same vein as smart phone jailbreaking. :)

NWR Feedback / Questions for Moderators Belong Here...
« on: February 18, 2011, 11:29:41 PM »
Why was I temporarily banned?

The official statement was "repeated trolling", but that doesn't hold up to logic. Anything that the masses would have misconstrued as "trolling" had been dealt with days prior, in the Sony thread. That thread was closed and warnings were issued. Despite the failings of multiple posters, I seem to be the only one to have been punished. I can only presume this is due to a difference of opinion on one or more of the moderator's behalves.

Of course, TJ Spyke did go crying to the moderators when his picture started showing up. It was mentioned in the ban message, yet I was never contacted by the staff over this matter previously. The lack of communication makes any action (especially a banning) well out of line if based solely on such. Of course, this shouldn't have even been brought up in the ban message at all. I merely appropriated publicly available images and modified them to meet the terms of the fair use stipulations, as defined and plainly laid out in the United States' copyright laws. I assumed that TJ Spkye of all people would appreciate the exact letter of the law being followed when it came to copyrighted material.

So again I ask, why was I banned? If it was for the Sony thread, then I can quickly point out one or two others that should have been punished alongside me. Anything else was negligible and certainly unwarranted of any sort of moderator retaliation.

General Gaming / HAY LETS TALK ABOUT PIRACY IN HERE
« on: December 30, 2010, 08:28:38 PM »
It took this long because the homebrew community was largely happy with the Other OS option. Sony took that away and everything crumbled down around them pretty quick. The hackers will always win. I don't understand why companies continue to waste time and money fighting them for the long haul.

Nintendo Gaming / Mario's 25th Anniversary Collection?

I can't read Japanese. The website seems to indicate a Mario collection for the Wii however. It would go well with my old Zelda collection on the GameCube...

Edit: Here's an explanation in English. http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/65542

Nintendo Gaming / WiiWare: Midnight Pool
« on: August 22, 2008, 02:14:32 PM »
I've been thinking of picking this up, but wanted to hear a few other opinions before doing so. Overall, the presentation looks decent enough, but I'm worried about the motion control and especially the physics. I enjoyed Gameloft's last WiiWare offering--Block Breaker Deluxe--and think that pool would obviously work better with the "nightlife" theme. I just don't want it to end up being pathetically lame, as Wii Play's nine ball is decent enough.

General Gaming / RAGE?

RAGE is being published by EA? Odd, considering the long history Id has with Activision. This, coupled with the earlier hints of it being T-rated and simultaneously released on consoles give me serious doubts about just who it is being targeted at. DooM 3 was definitely a misstep for Id, and this just might be the next failure. It'd be a shame really, as the basic design sounds cool enough.

Hahaha!!! So that's why Harmonix wanted to push the Wii version of the first game out so fast and without any effort. Did I say no effort? I meant technical limitations, because we all know that the Wii can't handle character creators, downloadble content, and online play. Must suck to have bought that.

I was given a Wii Points Card the other day as a gift and realized just how uninteresting a large majority of the Virtual Console games are to me. That got me to thinking about what I would like to see, and thus I set up this vague think tank. Don't worry if what you want won't ever, in a few million years, make it to Virtual Console. Instead, have fun and list some titles that you remember fondly. For me, my list is largely Genesis games because I never actually owned an SNES (or N64 for that matter). I would imagine that there is quite a bit of overlap in the two however, so don't worry!

Also, if you're wondering, I already had 100 points left over on my account from the last time I purchased a few games, so I used my newly acquired Wii Points Card to grab up Punch-Out, Devil's Crush, and Dr. Mario Online Rx. Anyway, here is what I could come up with off the top of my head.

NES
Battletoads
Blaster Master
Captain Skyhawk
Duck Hunt
Metal Gear
Snake's Revenge
NARC
Snake Rattle & Roll

SNES
Chrono Trigger
Earthbound
Super Punch-Out!!

Genesis
Battletoads & Double Dragons
Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
Blaster Master 2
Crue Ball
Dinosaurs For Hire
Gauntlet 4
The Lost Vikings
Norse By Norsewest: Return of the Lost Vikings
Marble Madness
Out Run
Paperboy
Paperboy 2
Road Rash
Road Rash II
Road Rash III
Rock N' Roll Racing
Smash TV
Zombies Ate My Neighbors

N64
Castlevania
Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness
Doom 64
Excitebike 64
Harvest Moon 64
Micro Machines 64 Turbo
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero
Road Rash 64

Oh, and how about some Sega CD and Saturn games?!

Nintendo Gaming / WiiWare: Critter Round-Up
« on: May 23, 2008, 10:50:01 AM »
So, I thought this game was just going to be a straight up copy of Qix before watching the trailer last night within the My Nintendo channel. Toward the end it shows some of the multiplayer aspects and one is clearly Tron-based. While it can never be quite as cool as an actual lightcycle game (GL Tron has stood out of the crowd for years), it has certainly peaked my interest.
