Didn't you hear? Mario is dead. This is no doubt his greedy estate trying to cash in again.

I'm quite fond of Keizaron's streams, although he isn't doing as many speedruns these days outside of Ender Lillies and stuff for a show he does on the GDQ channel called The First Step.

In any case, as someone who hadn't really been into Pokemon since Gen 1 (though I spent a fair amount of time with Diamond and Pearl as well), Arceus looked potentially interesting. But it seems that asking Nintendo/Game Freak to even wait a month before announcing its replacement was too much to ask.
Game Freak doesn't have any real control over that though. Pokemon just hasn't been a games franchise in a very long time. The series is the embodiment of the whole Space Balls merchandising clip. The mainline games exist to push and tie into other merchandising opportunities for the series by being the primary mechanism from which new Pokemon are introduced. The series has become a mechanism to push new content. Every 3 or so years now a new generation of pokemon is announced so they can sell new merchandise and kind of soft relaunch the series for a new generation of kids.

As of 2019, which is the last time we've gotten official numbers for revealed publicly, the games only account for about 27 billion dollars worth of the revenue that the series has produced, and this includes the countless spin offs we have gotten over the years.

Merchandise accounts for about 83 billion dollars worth of revenue for the series. It is absolutely the main focus for the series and the games have absolutely suffered for that but considering that Pokémon is the number 1 highest grossing media franchise it's kind of difficult to argue with their approach when it's making them so much money in such a consistent basis.

Because that's the core of the issue here. We aren't talking about a video game franchise. We are talking about a multimedia juggernaut that makes stupid amounts of money.

I tried to get a full on laptop but the one I got had a faulty keyboard so I had to send it back.

Even then, Legends Arceus is pretty easily a top 5 Switch game for me so you should definitely play it.

Okami a grand adventure and has been on a few systems but some folks had problems with the brush combat/and just using the brush in general in the Wii version.  I think fixing this would help since the Switch can be more precise with movement there.

Okami's already on the Switch.  Even gives players the option to use motion or analogue controls for the brush.
It also has touch controls in handheld mode for the brush.

Nintendo Gaming / What do you use your Switch USB Ports for?
« on: February 26, 2022, 10:37:35 PM »
The back one on mine is used for the ethernet adapter but the front two are a different story. One port is being used for a USB C cable so I can use my Pro Controller or 8Bitdo Pro 2 as a wired controller to try and make Smash Ultimate's input delay less obnoxious. and the other one is currently being occupied by a Logitech Unifying Reciever so I can use a wireless keyboard on the Switch. I could also sync a mouse to it but the only game that supports keyboard and mouse is Hypnospace Outlaw. Having a keyboard is still nice for the eshop though.

General Gaming / Games you just don't know how to talk about.

Am I the only one who's gotten into these weird games that are difficult to describe? In large part because you feel like you can't talk about them without spoiling what makes them special? From weird meta narratives to just plain weird let's recommend eachother stuff like that here.

Doki Doki Literature Club is not remotely for the faint of heart. Those content warnings that generally surround the game are very well earned. However it is a memorable and well crafted experience unlike any other that is well worth checking out if you think you have the stomach for it.

Moon or Moon Remix RPG is a PS1 era satire of RPGs where your character is sucked into an RPG world and has to try to gather the love of the inhabitants of moon world and undo the damage done by the so called "hero" who is generally something of a nuisance to the people of the world in order to return home. The game is a sort of spiritual predecessor to the Chibi Robo series.

---

Daniel Mullins is a developer who revels in this sort of thing. He seems to enjoy putting these subversive meta narratives In his games and he is really good at it. His games are only on PC but they are well worth checking out.

The Hex is a sort of murder mystery type thing. There are these six game characters in a bar and you are told that one of them is planning a murder so you basically go through each of the characters, play the games they were from (which generally satirize existing game genres like Platformers and 2D fighting game) and by doing so you learn more about who these characters are and what brought them to where they are today.

Pony Island came out before The Hex and while it is nowhere near as ambitious it is an equally worthwhile and memorable experience. You play as someone who is trapped playing a game called Pony Island and the whole thing is you trying to escape from the game. Also, Pony Island fucking goes places and I am honestly shocked that I managed to describe it without mentioning the elephant in the room that's revealed very early on.

I haven't played his third game, The Inscription yet but based on those previous two I suspect it will be a hoot.

The Twitch Streamer Keizaron actually attempted this challenge. He didn't do the Biberal Bridge because it is blatantly a glitch and it wouldn't have given him access to enough stuff to get to rank 10 anyways and he had to resort to trading for stuff like trade evolutions because distortions and satchels refused to spawn but the final results are here.

He has said he plans to upload the VODs for that 125 hour adventure to youtube at some point.

There is no way we're getting 3 mainline Pokémon games in a calendar year.

Also, Sword and Shield are still being used for VGC stuff this year so I could see that being updated to accomodate the new Legends Arceus forms so they can be used for the tournament.

My predictions are Legends Arceus getting DLC and a new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon remake for the second set of games to tie into the gen 4 nostalgia The Pokémon Company seems to be indulging in atm.

I finally ordered a new laptop. I settled on the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro which crammed a 16 inch screen into the chassis of a 15 inch laptop and is getting marked down like crazy because the 2022 model is coming out soon.

The one drag is that it only has a 516gb SSD so I'll be fridge cleaning for a bit until I get a bigger one for it. My current laptop for context has essentially 3tb of storage but I only really use the 1tb SSD for the laptop itself while the 2tb HDD is mainly used to back up my SD cards from things like the Wii U, 3DS, and my phone.
