Mewtwo, Bowser Jr. Announced for Smash Bros.
« on: October 23, 2014, 11:44:00 AM »

Mewtwo is on it's way, and Bowser Jr. is bringing along a few friends.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38814/mewtwo-bowser-jr-announced-for-smash-bros

Both Bowser Jr. and Mewtwo will be playable characters in Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Bowser Jr, along with koopalings Wendy, Roy, Iggy, Lemmy, Larry, Ludwig and Morton will all be playable characters in Smash Bros. for Wii U, as they are in Smash Bros. 3DS. Mewtwo will not be part of the game on release day but instead is scheduled for release around spring 2015 for both games. He will be a free character for those who purchase both the 3DS and Wii U version of Smash Bros.

MEWTWO?!?!

Yeah! Heck, double heck, triple heck yeah!

This is going to keep the Ridley rumours going with one of the leaked DLC characters now be confirmed to be true. I love it. Smash Bros. rumours will never die now. There'll always be DLC hope.

Um,  I thought the "leaked" DLC characters were Wolf, Lucas, Ice Climbers,  Chorus Kids, and Snake. Neither Mewtwo nor Ridley among them unless I missed something.

Depends on which leak you read. The Spainkiller (neogaf poster) leak mentioned moving models of Ridley, Mewtwo, Dixie, and the Chorus Kids.

I wonder which voice actor they'll use for Mewtwo-the one from Melee* or the ones from movie 16.

*Melee used the same Japanese VA for both English and Japanese, most likely due to Philip Bartlett, Mewtwo's English VA, dying earlier in 2001.

I'm already burned out of Smash after playing the otricity that is the 3DS version.  Don't get me wrong the game was still the same core smash I love, but the unplayable online shouldn't even have been included in the game.  The lack of Xenoblade stuff.   The clone characters, lack of Ridley, ect.   Feelsbadnintendo

They are real problems and I can list some more if you'd like.

1.  Borderline usable online mode.  I can't think of one person/review that said the online was good or decent.  It ranges from bearable at its best to complete crap turn based fighting game....It's generally a 1-100 chance to get a 4 player game of smash bros 4 running decently.  And believe me I've tried.
2.  Controls are god awful
3.  Music selection is weak
4.  Clones.  (Waste of slots)
5.  Stage amount is ehhh.
6.  Local Multiplayer lags sometimes....Why??!
7. Screen size isn't good enough, I still don't know why they even made smash bros for a handheld.
8. Smash Run is only local multiplayer, though if it was online I think it would've lagged like crap so....
9.  Lack of a Story mode.
10.  Classic mode is worst than it was in the previous smashes, it just had better difficulty system.
11.  Overall less content than Brawl.
12.  No Ridley, ect..
13.  Might seriously mess up your console, what with all the Shoulder button click and circle pad smashing, it's inevitable for a lot of people.
14. ect...

It's not perfect but assuming that all 4 people have solid connections we should be fine.
Quote
2.  Controls are god awful
It's the same basic control set as the other 3 games. Dunno what the big deal is.
Quote
3.  Music selection is weak
I thought they made it clear that most of the music options would be in the Wii U.
Quote
4.  Clones.  (Waste of slots)
The only one that's really bad is Dark Pit.
Quote
5.  Stage amount is ehhh.
Quote
Brawl has a total of 41 stages including the Retro ones and the 3DS game has 34. Melee had 29 (I just checked).
Quote
6.  Local Multiplayer lags sometimes....Why??!
Who knows,
Quote
7. Screen size isn't good enough, I still don't know why they even made smash bros for a handheld.
because Japan. Also git gud
Quote
8. Smash Run is only local multiplayer, though if it was online I think it would've lagged like crap so....
'smash run doesn't have online so I can't complain about how laggy it is'
Quote
9.  Lack of a Story mode.
That's an improvement over Brawl.
Quote
10.  Classic mode is worst than it was in the previous smashes, it just had better difficulty system.
How?
Quote
11.  Overall less content than Brawl.
but you are much more likely to use all of the content so there's that.
Quote
12.  No Ridley, ect..
Nice to see you as well caterkiller,

13.  Might seriously mess up your console, what with all the Shoulder button click and circle pad smashing, it's inevitable for a lot of people.
the 3ds has had hardware flaws with the shoulder buttons. That isn't the game's fault go yell at Nintendo's quality control.

It also isn't the game's fault if you mash the circle pad like an idiot.

3.  Music selection is weak
Disagreed, but to each his own.
Quote
7. Screen size isn't good enough, I still don't know why they even made smash bros for a handheld.
I haven't seen the game on a regular 3DS, but I find it to be mostly passable on the XL. The problem is 3DS's low resolution. I hope Nintendo at least triples the DPI in the true successor. Also, there's a 3DS version because Japan primarily. The series is popular enough that people elsewhere bought it on name and hype alone. Given the limitations of the platform, I thought they did a hell of a job.

I'm a bit worried about this. I've found myself being rough during tense matches and having to tell myself to slow my roll. Still, I wouldn't count this as a negative, personally. If I'm getting that into the game, it means I'm digging it.

I... wow. okay. Pokepal has me covered a bit, but I'd like to say my piece on each of these points.

1. I doubt GGPO or such would work on such an environment and item reliant game, and the japanese are often too stubborn to license out netcode. I'm usually playing one on one online, and that and even 3 players tends to be smooth to an acceptable standard, and a great standard if you're playing for glory.

2. you really clearly need to play Action 52, Somari, or any sort of awful piratey garbage to understand the words that just came out of your mouth. There was a point where during the brawl period, one of my gamecube controllers crapped out and I had to go to playing Classic Controller so my friends could continue to rock GC controllers. I feel the 3DS version is quite comparable to playing brawl with the classic controller minus maybe the second analogue stick and the notches in the analogue sticks. the controls are more than responsive, and I've had no real issues.

3. This is a very subjective point. at the same time, this game brought us the best remix of the Mute City theme I've ever heard, the awesome Gerudo Valley arrangement, all the Pac-man stuff, all the Kid Icarus Uprising stuff, and the Rainbow Road medley? We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

4. Wrong. maybe wasted character slots if this game were to come out in 2016. this Nintendo Direct confirms that they are working on mewtwo, who is sleighted for "Spring 2015". this is, of course, anywhere between the end of the fiscal year and late June, and generally, Nintendo tends to put some sort of big game they want some buzz about right before E3 in the May 30th slot. they are esentially asking for 6 more months to develop a single character who people feel Lucario is a 'clone' of! The clone characters do not nudge other characters out of consideration, but rather just round out the roster better without sacrificing precious dev time. also, there's only 2 new clones?

5. 34 stages is indeed less than Brawl's 41. that being said, I feel they all count, as I tend to enjoy smaller stages that the 3DS limited the dev team to. Also, they can patch the game and there's been an arrow that belongs to the stage select screen's data found in the ROM dump, so uh... yeah, I wouldn't be surprised at all if we ended up surpassing that 41 through DLC.

6. unfortunately, wireless interference is a thing. I haven't had such problems, but you may want to try turning cell phones off, disabling wireless functions on devices you have about the house, try doing what the japanese do and play multiplayer on their portable at a public place that doesn't have a ton of wireless stuff going on there, etc. Otherwise, can't refute this one.

7. Can't refute this. I'm personally fine with it, but I can see where people would have trouble keeping up with the crazy action. They made a handheld version because the console situation in Japan is dire because all anybody does in Japan is meet up at cafes and play Monster hunter together.

8. I have done elaborate rants on people misunderstanding Smash Run on other threads on this forum. they obviously had a reason to keep it off the internet, so...

9. Aha, ahahaha, aha ha.... oh, right. uh... do you really WANT a narrative getting in the way of the smashing? Okay, really, though, Smash Bros. has always been the story of an Autist child  collecting Nintendo toys and then setting up great imaginary battles between one another or better yet, between him and his hand [one of which has a twitch, which is why he calls it his crazy hand]. ... I'm being serious, here! I even have a video that better explains it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7Ra3_qQUNU

10. I actually have a reason to replay it to get equipment and trophy rewards at a consistent rate, and it's nice and brief, which is how i want experiences on a portable.

11. CORRECT! you are positively correct! I do find it annoying that they've cut Coin and special matches, the item slider, truly customizable controls, the lack of the stage builder, and other key options from the game. Special matches are particularly egregious because they very obviously have all the rule sets for them in Smash Run! That being said, I really wouldn't have liked an extra 500 megs on my SD card being taken up by them trying to cram Masterpieces into the game.

12. Okay, I was laughing before, but... really. Shitting on the roster is not only an extremely subjective thing, but also very childish considering how much they've NAILED it with the 51 [soon to be 52] characters they already have in the game, and just how balanced they feel!

13. this is like bitching that Wii sports is a hazard to your TV.

14. not a point.
