I'd say it looks vaugely Disaster Report like.

I need video to judge the quality, screenshots tell nothing.

The following screenshots really excited me about this project.

I like the idea of working around a natural disaster to help people and survive...but it is even better when you throw in the aspect of either terrorists, or hoodlums acting out fear with violence.  Hopefully, there is a really nice progression with the story.

The disaster hits and you are just focused on survival and helping others survive...
As paranoia hits you start having to deal with keeping order among the chaos...
Finally you learn that the natural disaster was actually a planned attack by terrorists, and you have to defend the city.

All while this is happening you have to deal with constant weather and environmental changes/challenges.

This game could be a killer app.  I hope Nintendo gives the game time to develop and become perfect.  This game would be a perfect Summer game for 08.

Nintendo's investment in Monolith is probably the same reason they took over Retro (100%)...they saw the promise in their work.  Hopefully that's what we're getting out of Disaster: Day of Crisis.

This is sort of like Endless Ocean non-game-like game...but quite the opposite in terms of quality.  Cool stuff.

The graphics aren't anything amazing, but you have to remember, this is the first time Monolith Soft has tried their hand at a video game before.

All I'm saying is that...if you're out there trying to survive a disaster and rescuing people along the way...then it'd loosely fall in that category with Endless Ocean...yes...sort of...

It's not your traditional, action/adventure like Zelda or Metroid Prime...it's more like...uhmmm...let me rescue some folks...touch some dolphins...raise a dog.  You know...the non-game games.

It depends on HOW it is implemented.  If the game is designed in such that there are puzzles, action, and life/death situations to rescue people and yourself then it is not a non-game like Endless Ocean but a traditional adventure game.

And they have already shown elements of needing to attack terroist like enemies in the city, so that even adds more action to the game.

This game is in no way a non-game, but is going to be a nice genre blending adventure game.

I get the feeling that the reason for the screenshots not looking so hot is because there will be so much visual horsepower going into the world around the characters. Something like GTA, which needed to tone down the character models in order to create a vast city.

Just your friendly reminder: calling something a non-game game is an oxymoron, and it's an oxymoron for reason.

Okay...maybe it's not a non-game after all.  After examining the arguments against the non-game angle, you win.

It's the inevitable result of the transformation of games into 'art': soon, the only real games will be the unplayable ones that art critics can write page-long dissertations about.
