Nintendo Gaming / DS demo channel?

DS demo channel? At least in Japan.

This is good news. Could a full-fledged Wii demo channel be not too far off?

Nintendo Gaming / MP3: Mogenar
« on: September 17, 2007, 08:58:33 AM »
So, Hyper Mode isn't *that* bad. Blew up the generators on Bryyon, even managed to get the voucher for pulling the levers, and now I'm at the seed boss (Mogenar).

Mogenar on Hyper Mode is freaking insane. I can avoid all of his attacks at the beginning (when you have to shoot the red balls). It's after the red balls die that my problems begin to mount.

I like to shoot out one ball at a time, go into Hyper Mode, and permanently disable the socket. That's hard enough, but most of the time he's able to replenish his balls before I can blow up the socket. And the replacement balls are freaking impossible to kill.

When I do shoot out the socket, my problems begin in earnest. If I bump into his boots I get 30 damage. And the morph ball camera is really messed up (only in this part of the game). Also, I can't seem to use the tractor charge beam to pick up powerups (which are really rare anyways).

Does anyone have any tips for this boss in Hyper Mode? This was the only boss I really had trouble with on Normal...

I've gotten 5 energy tanks right now (the Olympus and Norion tanks, one from the reliquary that you get to by turning into a ball, one hidden in the broken golem, and one close to where your ship lands in the jungle part). Are there any more tanks I can get right now?

Nintendo Gaming / iTunes on Wii (*sort of)
« on: August 29, 2007, 12:57:23 PM »
Glamesploit has an article about an unofficial streaming plug-in for the Wii's browser that would let you listen to iTunes music on your Wii (or PS3, or PSP, or computer). Looks kind of clunky, but maybe Nintendo will be doing something similar. Or is that still a non-option at this point?

Nintendo Gaming / Technical Hurdles
« on: July 23, 2007, 08:58:55 AM »
Kairon's recent topic about the controller accuracy got me thinking about things people were saying shortly after the Wii came out. Technical limitations, to be exact. What do you guys think?

"One-to-one onscreen movement will be impossible."

Unfortunately, everything I remember about both topics is strictly anecdotal. However, the possibility of a lightsaber-based Star Wars game and comments that some developer made about the next Zelda game seem to hint that it is not *technically* impossible at this stage.

"Wireless latency makes certain types of online games impractical"

This was mentioned as a reason why Nintendo wasn't saying much about Brawl Online- that the wireless connection introduced too much latency, that Nintendo's infrastructure just wasn't up to the task, etc. However, I recall sources that say that they've already gotten it to work on a limited basis, and the company reps have repeatedly said that they had not axed the feature yet. If they can pull it off, though, it's probably a safe bet to say that developers will be able to do high-intensity online games like FPSes and RTSes using the wireless connect feature. Which is a big reason why I hope online play with Brawl comes through.

(Speaking of which, why no leaderboard? As someone mentioned in the other thread, it seems that a leaderboard/stat tracker would be the least of their technical worries when it comes to online play.)

General Gaming / CONFIRMED: Halo 3 to be Wii-killer...
« on: July 19, 2007, 04:37:45 PM »
...says another idiot executive.

Dave Perry says gamers will drop Wiimotes for Halo 3

I think one of the commenters said it the best:

Quote

Well of course I'll drop my Wiimote when Halo 3 comes out. I can't play on my 360 with my Wiimote. I'll pick it right back up again when I'm through, though.

General Gaming / Vindication of Market Share Hypothesis?
« on: June 27, 2007, 04:40:01 PM »
I know GameSplat is the devil, but I found this article (and the referenced articles) very interesting. I know some people have been arguing that Wii will get more developer support as its install base increases, but will the increased support actually materialize? And will it be decisive? At this point, probably.

Report: Japanese Publishers Switching Over to Wii

Quote

Japan's top three third-party publishers are ramping up development for Nintendo's Wii and DS systems, at the expense of rivals Sony and Microsoft. Namco Bandai will reportedly increase Nintendo hardware development by 109 percent to 115 titles, Sega will up its titles by 96 percent to 49, and Capcom titles will rise by 5 percent to 20.

Quote

...development costs are lower for Nintendo's hardware.

Quote

Square Enix... does not plan to develop any new titles for the PlayStation 3 until the console's installed base rises enough to make increased next-gen development costs worthwhile.

Interesting reading...hopefully this will be a continuing trend. This, along with the new independent developer's initiative, could really serve to keep Nintendo's market performance sustainable.

Nintendo Gaming / North America Wii Restock?
« on: December 17, 2006, 09:28:28 AM »
Hello.

December 17 came and passed, and I was unable to find a Wii. Given that Christmas falls on a strange date this year (the 25th is a Monday?), is it likely that any of the big-box stores (e.g. Best Buy) will be getting another restock before the end of the year? I know that Best Buy is supposed to be open next Sunday, but I wanted to see if I could get any more information before committing to waiting outside the store at 3:00 in the morning.

Thanks!

Nintendo Gaming / DDR for Wii?
« on: December 15, 2006, 02:36:44 AM »
Hello. (First post!)

I am about to get a Wii (and hopefully sell my Gamecube on eBay), and I just wanted to ask a question.

Are there any upcoming Dance Dance Revolution games for the Wii? I'd hazard a guess that the success of the platform would make at least one new game a relatively sure prospect, but I could be wrong on even that. I know that in terms of non-Playstation DDR games that there was one for the GCN and one for XBox 360, but has there been anything confirmed (or suspected!) for the Wii yet?

Thanks,
UERD
