General Chat / RE:Are there any good artists here?
« on: February 03, 2006, 04:38:13 AM »
I was never a Mega Man fan so I do not have any artwork, and I did the Google Image search without much luck. Maybe when I get some more info on what you're looking for I'll be able to find more.

You can email me at 'bustin98 at gmail dot com', let me know your game plan and I'll see what I can do. Let me know size of artwork, format, media, whether you have poses in mind or not, ect....

EDIT:
I found a website that has some galleries, amoung other interesting articles. GameCritics.com

MegaMan Galleries - Gallery 1
Gallery 2
Gallery 3
Gallery 4
Gallery 5

Interesting stuff, though I've seen better styles of japanimation.  The bold outline style of the one is really not something I appreciate.

Using Internet Explorer, I just go to 'Tools - Internet Options - Security'. Click on 'Restricted Sites' and add the domain for the offending ad service. Yeah, its manual and you have to see the ad once, but its an option. And those 'Interceptor Ads', just refresh quickly to get past them. I do it quick enough where I don't even see what the heck they are trying to sell.

For me, having a group of people create a guild for one type of sexual preference makes as much sense as having a guild of all sexual preferences. We'll have straights over here and 'g@ys' over there, and so on (I won't mention any more). But where do you draw the line? Its great that people who are g@y are proud and willing to share with the world, but thats like me walking down the street yelling 'I'm Straight!' Let's have a straight parade!

Look, people are people and deserve equal treatment. If one adult can make a decision about an aspect of their life, then all adults can make the same decision. Yes, there should be g@y marriages and g@y divorces and g@y adoptions and g@y artificial insemination and whatever else. Because the word 'g@y' shouldn't even play into it. I could care less if my neighbor is g@y. It doesn't affect my life. He just needs to be a good neighbor, meaning no stealing, no loud parties that I'm not invited to, clean yard, ect...

Oh, if anyone is familiar with PBS, there's a show that is hosted by Alan Alda. Scientific America or something. One show dealt with people's perceptions of homosexuals. The cameras were at a college where a study covering the subject was going on. The people were interviewed on their feelings about things sexual, then shown images of a sexual nature in a closed environment. Arousal reactions were measured. By the end, it was found that those peoples that expressed a hatred torwards homosexuality had more reaction to the homosexual images than those who were straight and had expressed no hatred. They concluded that the hatred stemmed from supressed feelings and the person's inability to accept their own sexuality. While the subject had been covered before, it was interesting to see an actual study on the subject.

I was curious about the characters that you refer to, and it was quite difficult to find some images other than sprites. Most of the artwork spans different styles, ranging from Dragon Ball Z to Sonic. Is that what you are looking for? Do you have a good source of images to refer to? Look at the Spiderman Contest talkback thread to see an example of art from my head. Having source material to refer to would make it easy enough to emulate a particular style.

General Gaming / RE:Xbox 360 = awesome system
« on: February 01, 2006, 09:23:09 AM »
As a repair tech who has been away from the work bench for a year, my experience comes from dealing with the general public. That general public doesn't exactly keep up on new stuff or buy the good stuff. So the systems that come by have been mostly Compaq's and HP's. Some Tiger Direct stuff, too. BUT, the only processors that I have had to replace are AMD's. New CPU = working system.

Perhaps it can be argued that its not AMD's fault as these people could be keeping their systems in enclosed spaces, or never turning their systems off, or something of that nature.

From what I've recently read, looks like AMD is putting out some quality stuff and I just might consider an AMD over a Pentium next time I upgrade. In the past, the major complaint against AMD was it wasn't as reliable as a Pentium.

The 360 Quake4 vs PC Quake4 issue should die. Its obvious that this is an isolated experience and others on the web are reporting exactly the opposite.

I wish I had the time to apply. As a web designer/webmaster I love programming projects that involve databases. One of my biggest concerns is keeping data integrity across the board. Anything that can be misspelled or catagorized incorrectly - will. Good luck to the applicants.

Sometimes I dream my job would pay in strippers . . . [j/k]

Here's some education for all of us:

http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/quake_4_cpu_performance/

Ok, so I take back what I said about using Intel's Extreme Edition. But I've never been a fan of AMD, with their overheating issues.

So the question is whether or not Quake 4 on the 360 is running in Ultra Quality or High Quality. Maybe there are comparison shots out there.

« on: January 30, 2006, 04:31:58 PM »
My earliest system was the Atari 2600, but with computers my dad brought home a Commadore +4. Barely a computer, just a tower of sorts, a keyboard, and the tv as a monitor. I tried some simple programming that was included in the manual, but I wasn't nerdy enough back then to understand what the heck I was doing (different story now ). For me computers weren't about gaming at all. It was all my Nintendo. But I think was more interested in reading my DC Comics (yeah, Marvel sucks!) and playing with my Transformers than playing games.  Oh , and watching Dr Who on PBS. Those were the days...

I'll bet the bottom dollar that building a system with Intel's Extreme Dual Core 3.2, 4GB of RAM, and NVidia's SLI PCI - E x 16 will run much more smoothly than the Xbox 360. Heck, get a mobo that supports two processors and have two Dual Cores. Cost comes into play, not that you can buy a PC for the cost of a 360 anyway (at least not a very decent one).

But, whats power? Just the CPU alone? You can have a screaming CPU but if there's a bottleneck, the system is only as good as that slowest piece. All the parts combined create the power.

Its rather presumpuous to believe the PC world will not continue to show increases in performance even in the next 6 months. Won't be long before we start seeing carbon nano tubes in processors. And as 64Bit grows, more options will be made available, making it a viable solution for extremely quick computing.

Microsoft made a decent gaming machine. But as a computer, it is lacking and doesn't stand up to the future. Not a knock against MS or the 360, just the way of life.

From my understanding and images I've seen online, the hot coffee mod does not involve nudity. Its a dude dry bonin' a chick doggy style. Not even breasts are visible. I'll never understand why this game is being picked on while God of War is never mentioned. I can see the fact that the game was locked away undermines the ground Rockstar stands on, but both games were labeled identically and both available on the PS2. The difference is you can see breasts in GoW, but no action other than a rockin' vase.

EDIT - A quick Google search displayed results of some breasts and some hidden with a t-shirt. But the dude still has his pants on. Nothing like trying to have sex through a zipper!

General Gaming / RE:xbox what are some good games
« on: January 21, 2006, 10:33:39 AM »
The best games really depends on your point of view. Some people say Halo 2 is one of the best, while others say that it was tweaked too much and the original Halo is better. Of course, Xbox Live is nothing without Halo 2.

Just pick your favorite genres and visit some sites that review games and see what they say. Personally, I really like the Chronicles of Riddick, the Burnout series, the Splinter Cell series, and Halo / Halo 2. Fable: the Lost Chapters has me playing more than I should, too.

Traditional American comic art has no place on the web. If only I had the time to ink and color my work.

Congrats to the winner. Next time I'll fix the layout and put in the extra time to finish it off.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:CES: Thoughts?
« on: January 08, 2006, 03:17:39 PM »
The problem with doing a 360 is there is a cord attached. How many 360's are you willing to do? Still, the experience needs something that does not remove you from the game. So far every solution I've seen does not solve the problem. I imagine it will be years before any headset is ready for main stream, unless Nintendo has an answer now....

Nintendo Gaming / RE:CES: Thoughts?
« on: January 07, 2006, 04:07:24 PM »
I am currently here in Las Vegas attending the show and there isn't anything Nintendo wise to mention. ATI is focused on the 360 (of course) and Sony has the same setup as E3. I did see a trailer for Factor 5's game that I didn't see before though.

There are a couple of booths that have Nintendo's logo but one is a carrying case company (DS and Gameboy) and the other is the car attachment for the gameboy (didn't see it, don't care about it).

Lots of HDTV's here, majority of companies are focused on bringing out 1080p and using HDMI connectors. And everyone and their grandmother is pushing MP3 players or IPod attachments.

I tried out some glasses that track head movement and translate it into game control. Very awkward. What I'd like to see is head control translated into actual head control of the character. So in FPS's, if you are running forward and want to look to your left, just turn your head and you still run in the same direction, you just aren't looking at where you are going.

TalkBack / RE:Acclaim Games Publishing Rights Auction
« on: December 30, 2005, 08:44:33 AM »
Thats funny that you mention Turok is a comic character from ages ago, but only show the most recent version of it. The character was originally from the 50's , from Dell Comics. He was originally called Turok Son of Stone.

Anyway, Valiant Comics became Acclaim Comics at some point. Acclaim was going to do the whole line as games. Not the best idea in the world of gaming. In the beginning Valiant had some of the hottest books in the comic industry. Then everyone jumped on the bandwagon and demand dropped like a stone. Then the bottom fell out of the comic industry as a whole (thank you Image ).

But I absolutely love the first three Turoks and would like to see a return to the good ole days. Evolution just blew chunks. If the load times and frame rate issues would have been cleaned up I would be more favorable of it.

General Chat / CES check in
« on: December 26, 2005, 09:16:17 AM »
So, anyone here attending the CES?

There are a number of events related to gaming, Sony is giving a keynote, Bill Gates is giving a keynote (all sold out so it'll be staring at a tv across a room for me).

It'll be cool if Sony releases some info on the PS3 during the show. I'll have to check in to relay any news if there is any.

Anyone want to meet and run around the show like G4 idiots in our PGC t-shirts?? That'd be a hoot. But I get to be Sessler since I have my hair cut like his...

I saw the movie before watching the series. I thought it was one of the best sci-fi movies in a long time. I really had fun watching it. I have since recorded every episode off of Sci-Fi channel that has been on. The movie has brought new meaning to a series I didn't give a second thought to the first time around.

I really hope for a sequel or something. I heard that one may be going direct to tv.

General Gaming / RE:Guitar Hero
« on: December 05, 2005, 04:16:59 AM »
You think Guitar Hero rocks, you should invest in a Japanese (or modded) PS2 and pick up Drum Mania and Guitar Freaks. I don't own a PS2 so I could be a little off on how they are named exactly (I just play it with my cousin). But you can play drums and two guitars at the same time. AND, one guitar can do the bass lines. Its awesome multiplayer stuff.

Its just a shame that the guitar for Guitar freaks doesn't work with Guitar Hero.
