Right on the box of both Perfect Dark  AND Conker's Bad Fur Day it says 'Published By Rareware'. Perfect Dark says 'Distributed By Nintendo'. You have to pull out the instructions for Conker to see that Nintendo is the 'Exclusive' distributor of it.

Strangely, both Goldeneye and Banjo Tooie lack any indication of who published or distributed the games. Perhaps its just to be assumed its Nintendo. Both games claim Copyright by both Nintendo and Rare, so it would seem Nintendo had some rights to Banjo, more so than to Conker. But I'm sure the payment for Rare took care of those copyright claims. And someone is borrowing Banjo Kazooie so I can't compare what that box has.

Why not local? I work for a shop that specializes in providing machines of all flavors for local businesses, offer competitive pricing, and usually stronger warranties, plus install. I'm sure there are other shops in your neck of the woods that can offer similar deals. Plus, buying from a 'name brand' usually ends up with extra software on your systems that only confuses the un-initiated (execs).

I think that this idea would work better if it depended on how the revmote was held rather than the height of it. Holding it horizontal would open one set of moves, vertical another, diagonal, upsidedown, flipped on the side. That seems more viable to me. You'll definately need to hold the revmote in a way that will allow for easy repositioning, but you'll get used to it. I remember how long it took me to get used to the N64 stick.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Wrist strap for controller?
« on: March 09, 2006, 04:46:00 PM »
I know its not a final design, but IGN shows the size of the Rev wand in relation to a wave bird. I don't think you'll be throwing it out of your hand on accident. Especially once you get used to it and all you're doing is little flicks of the wrist.

Another drawback to the eyetoy is the limits of visibilty. I like to play with a low level of lighting. Heck, even the 'normal' amount of lighting in my living room wasn't enough for the eye toy to 'see' consistently. At least with the Rev you can play in complete darkness if you wish.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:IF Revolution still is a code name...
« on: February 22, 2006, 10:51:18 AM »
Rumors I've read say the name may end up being the Nintendo RS. But I think the place I read that turned out to be a fake rumor spreading site.

Calling it the RS makes some sense to me, though.

I played through ED 4 times, just to get all colors plus another just to see if something was hidden.

It was fun, and easy. On the other hand, I haven't finshed Geist yet, don't know if I will. I got Smugglers Run about the same time as ED and I still have one or two missions to finish on that. BTW, I recommend Smugglers Run to everyone. Its crazy fun to free roam in the vehicles, especially when you use the cheat to gain unlimited powerups.

How do you judge smart? How do you judge ugly?

No matter how smart you are, there will be someone smarter, and there is always someone uglier.

On that note, asking someone who is taking Neurobiology if they are smart is like asking a Playboy cover girl if she's beautiful . . .

Just Googled the protein, came up with this:

You know, you get an eyeful of Milla in The Fifth Element. I hope she never gets implants.

My first impression of the trailers have been that they are ripping off Aeon Flux. But there has to be more than what is shown... I haven't seen Aeon Flux either so its difficult for me to compare.

General Gaming / RE:PS3 Facing Delays - 2007?
« on: February 20, 2006, 05:22:53 AM »
CNN now has an article up out the subject. They indicate a reason for the delay as Industry wide technical specifications have not been completed. There are some details that need to be finalized in regards to the Cell chip and Blu Ray. And they say developers are creating games based on estimates of what the PS3 can do, not actual hardware.

Maybe the estimates are close enough, but I thought it was said that the MGS demo was running on an actual PS3? More double talk?

The controller's position can be noted in real-time by the system, which means it will know how you are swinging. Thats how you control the ball in real life. I bet they'll even let you do a bunt position. I am wondering how they'll pull off the outfield. I suppose you could point at a position on the field to have the closest guy run there, or you point and drag someone around. . . Or maybe get a guy in position and if its on spot it will switch to first person view and you move a glove around the screen to catch it and you have to click the button at the right time to close the glove.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Video Games: Toys and Art
« on: February 17, 2006, 09:02:31 PM »
From what Hideo was saying, its almost as if the player is the artist. Video game designers just create the fabric while we do something with it. But that would be like driving to work is art.

If you are skillful at something, does that make you an artist?

I think as a concept, video games are art. The concept of Metal Gear is art, the concept of Donkey Kong is art. Those people that created the concept are artists. Even translating that concept to a workable product requires some sort of artistic skill. Its not like everything is laid out on paper and everyone puts it together like a paint by number. There are times in development cycle where adaptions must be made. The choices made from that point can't all just be "the next logical step", there has to be some "let's try this" to it.

Look at comic books. They provide a service and need to appeal to everyone, but try telling some fanboy with original pages plastered on his walls that he's not collecting art.

In the end video games are a product. But the concept and idea that goes into it, the blood, sweat, and tears, thats art.

Almost every big budget film has CGI in it. The Matrix movies (even The Island) proves they can do some cool stuff with vehicles. I don't think robots are that much further up. Then you have fims like Sin City, Mirror Mask, Sky Kepitan and the World of Yesterday . . .

The history of Transformer games doesn't show much of a pedigree. I'm skeptical.

I've heard that Megatron will be a tank instead of a gun. Its slightly dissapointing as a fan, but I can see where they are coming from. Especially putting Prime, a huge rig, next to Megatron, a little pistol. We all know how Michael Bay loves car chases. Imagine a huge tank going full out, faster than a tank normally could, running over a freeway full of cars, chasing down some Autobots trying to avoid the traffic.

Oh. Newsbot. . . . get with the program. TF the Movie is a big deal and will be the number one movie of 2007.

* Puts on steel cup *

I have more fun with Fusion Frenzy than with Mario Party. I'm glad I paid less than $10 for it though. Its fun to pull out with a group and play through the list of games.

I suppose I should admit that the last Mario Party I played was on the 64.

*EDIT* Geeze, I have fun with Bloodwake, too. Guess my taste in games is horrible. Must be why I bought Dark Summit . . .

Maybe their game will be Barbie and you can use the controller to brush her hair. . . gag

You know, I came in here thinking I'd find out something cool about Animal Crossing and instead I find myself in some sleazy bar full of guys jumping on the only girl in sight. (ok, its not that bad, but it paints a pic)

What are the glitches supposed to do? I'm sure there are some neat things to do with a GameShark.

You know, I never even thought of Digimon. I never even got into the cartoon. I did think of Monster Rancher though. I suppose Tamagochi (sp?) would fit the category too. The big difference I imagine would be the level of interactivity.

No matter. I don't care what kind of animal / robot is in a pet sim. I wouldn't buy it. There's nothing that would make me say 'Gotta have it' to a pet sim. Even if you had to train it then take into battle from a FPS point of view.

Sony should have went with another pet, maybe throw some fantasy elements into it. Imagine a pet dragon or griffen with semi-realistic graphics in a home setting. Keep the fire extinguisher handy! Out for a walk . . . hey! your dragon ate my dragon!

Ok, over the top a little, but there are a million directions Sony could go with out copying the dog idea.

How's this for an idea: the Revolution acting as your personal kiosk.

Yeah, it takes away from the impulse buy idea, but I'm sure it's possible with the rumored connection between the two systems.

I just might have to buy one of these DS thingies.
