I went to Target last week and used the sale to pick-up Lego City: Undercover, Need For Speed: Most Wanted U and MLB: The Show '13 (PS3).

My Wii U is still in the shop, (but its tracking number tells me it's arriving tomorrow)

However,

I'm not sure you'll be 100% happy with your plan to plug in to the gamepad.  That will work for Wii U software, but the Wii U will disable the gamepad for Wii and VC, which I'm guessing will also disable the headphone jack.

He could always go with a 1 male-to-2 female Y cable or a splitter for the headphone output. Both would make two jacks out of the single output. Plug the speaker system in one and the headset in the other.

I plan on getting a Wii U sometime in the future and I am trying to figure out how to hook it up to my computer monitor. It has an HDMI, DVI, and VGA input but no RCA audio out, only a headphone jack. I plan on getting the PDP Afterglow headset for audio as well as some external speakers. For the headset I would like to get it hooked up directly to the Wii U audio because I would expect they wouldn't work as well coming from the headphone jack.

My main question is: can you have both the HDMI and original RCA Wii cables working from the system at the same time? If so, I would be able to run HDMI to my monitor and RCA audio to the headset. I would like to know if this works before getting a splitter or something.

From what I've read, it is not possible to have dual output.

HDMI to your monitor and connecting the external speakers to the headphone jack would be the best way to go since it is carrying the pure digital audio stream directly from the Wii U. Using the RCA cable would actually be a downgrade to 2-channel analog. The headset can be connected to the Wii U's GamePad.

people on miiverse are reporting how to avoid miiverse and nintendo land freezes. set language to english only. not sure where that is in nintendo land but people are jumping on it. Might as well before the patch.

It's in the NintendoLand game setting menu. I actually stumbled onto it last night. I wasn't even aware that this option was a potential fix, but I had set it to English-only anyways.

Experienced my first Wii U system freeze last night. I was watching Hulu Plus. About a half hour in, commercial break and then the dreaded "black screen/vuvuzela of death". Power button was useless, I had to disconnect the Wii U from the power supply.

I had to redownload everything, too. I had around 60 titles (mostly VC, a handful of WiiWare and one or two VirtualArcade) and spent an hour or so downloading everything. For whatever reason, the first LostWinds seems to have been completely removed from the Wii Shop (and can not be transferred from the Wii to the Wii U). Other "delisted" titles still showed up in my download history and redownloaded fine. LW is nowhere to be found.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I last visited NWR, but I did buy a Wii U the other day.

Well, it looks like my guess of April 1st isn't going to happen. But it needs to happen before the Fall of 2012. The Wii is running out of steam and needs to be replaced with something bigger and better ASAP.

Wow. It's been a very long time since I was last here (nothing personal, I haven't really gamed in at least a year on any of the systems I own - Wii, PS3 or XBox 360). I do keep up on the rumors and news and, yes, Project Cafe has piqued my interest. So for my first post back, I'd like to toss in my guess...

Price: $349.99 (price includes 2 controllers and a packed-in game).
Release Date: April 1, 2012 (Sunday)

Two words: Amazon Prime. Well worth the yearly membership fee, as long as you are a frequent shopper.

The trailer looks great, but there is no way it was running on a Wii.

The Wii can look very good (Super Mario Galaxy has some impressive visual effects that I haven't seen in a Wii game since), but this trailer looks too good.

FYI, we don't have a review copy yet and I don't think many other outlets do but I'm not sure.

I don't know what that means for availability, but it's kind of strange.

That usually equates to a publisher knowing the game is bad and will review poorly. They hold back review copies until after the game has been available for sale a few days, so the negative reviews don't prevent customers from buying it before reading that it's total crap!

NWR has everything you need.  There's no need to look at other forums lustfully.

everything but a robust community. I'm not really knocking it though, a smaller group of regulars is much easier to manage than an abundance of "me too" posters/trollers/lollers

To be fair though - aren't most forums that way. No matter how many members a site/forum might have, only a small percentage of them are actually active and have something to contribute to the community.

Am I missing something?  We can only download DSiWare titles to the system, we can only copy/delete them (we can't "move" them) to an SD card AND they cannot be played from the SD card?

Nintendo, did you not learn anything from WiiWare?

I'm guessing that SD Card functionality could be added via a future firmware update. It certainly wasn't a part of the new firmware I downloaded for the DSi after getting it set-up on my network.  :'(

SK is making Zelda.

It has been in the making for 20 plus years, development started on the NES and hope to finish it by the time Wii 2 is released in 2020.

Its going to be epic.
OMG I can see it now....

delayed till 2021

So big, they've decided to make it a trilogy!

Rhoq:  You made the right choice.  Between the DSi and DS lite there is no comparison.  Even if you have several Game Boy Advance games, I say the DSi is just a better place to be.

I got rid of the few GBA games I had a while ago. I had bought them for the GameCube (GB Player), but I got rid of it when I got my Wii on launch day. I wasn't playing them enough on the DS to warrant holding onto them.

18
Man, I feel like such a Nintenwhore. I gave in and pre-ordered a DSi.

I had resisted the charms of DS Lite, but was ready to give in a few months back. Just when I had decided to go for the black & red DSL, Nintendo made the "Spring 2009" DSi announcement and I decided that if I had waited this long to replace my perfectly fine launch day DS with it's younger, way more attractive replacement, then I could wait a few more months for the DSi. LOL

I hear ya, I've had the same issue at times.  Its even worse on the Wii for FPS's when the sensor bar doesn't accurately register the movements an the screen spins endlessly....   8)

High Voltage Hot Rod Show isn't bad. Visually, it's as pretty as LostWinds, but in a different way (obviously). The downfall is it's lack of speed. I still had fun playing it last night, though I do feel it's over priced at 1000 Wii Points. 800 points would be more appropriate.

I figured if WiiWare sales help to fund more ambitous High Voltage projects (like The Conduit) I'll show them some support. (Chances are likely I won't be buying 'The Conduit' because I get nauseous playing FPS games.)

Thanks dude, that's exactly what I needed to read. I was on the fence about buying. Hudson just got my $5.

LBP has the potential to become the greatest platforming game, ever. Some of the user created content is mind-blowing. The creativity, thought and attention to detail people have put into their custom made levels is impressive, and this is only week one into the game.

Saw V was no better (and perhaps slightly worse) than Saw IV.

Killing-off "John" and condemning Tobin Bell to act in countless flashbacks through Saw VII was the worst decision they ever made.
