Rate the last movie you've seen
« on: June 01, 2009, 03:27:42 AM »
I recently saw both Drag Me To Hell and Up (back to back) and they are both great.

Drag Me to Hell is exactly what you want from a horror movie: entertainment. There are some jumpy parts, but there is nothing in there that will haunt your dreams. I really have only one complaint with the movie, but otherwise it was overall funny, scary, and entertaining. A perfect date movie.

8/10

Up is fantastic. Everything about it; from the art direction, scripting, and animation is well done and sophisticated. I found myself laughing out loud more than a couple times. And likewise, I found myself moved more than a couple times. It's a great story.

10/10

12 Rounds. I knew when i saw that when it was produced by WWE Studios i knew this was going to be a train wreck. Massive plot holes, highly episodic (meaning the events that happen right before mean almost nothing), and there was almost no humour at all.

EDIT: And the director seemed to have a fetish with car crashes. I counted at least a dozen!

I'm sure the extended, unrated Blu Ray version will get a 10/10.

I'd rate it about the same. Besides a few throwback one-liners from the previous films, there was nothing cheesey in this movie which made it a nice departure from the T3 trainwreck. Although you can see the story's "twist" a mile away I know some people who didn't realize Marcus was going to be a cyborg it was still an entertaining story and actually made me look forward to a new trilogy of Terminator films.

The Arnold CGI was pretty damn good too, my gf didn't realize he wasn't actually in the film until i told her. Wasn't there supposed to be a joke scene where they explain why all the T-8000's (or whatever their numbers were) look like Arnold? I stayed thru the credits to see it and NOTHING, that was my only dissapointment with the movie to be honest. Oh ooh, and it took me until the credits to realize that Kyle Reese was that dude in Star Trek. The whole movie, it was bugging me why this kid looked familiar.

Deliverance: 10/10 for Hot Man Rape.

I made my wife watch this after finding it in the $5 bin at Walmart.  She was disturbed and now hates me.

By the way, EC... Kyle Reese was not played by Simon Pegg.  You have your Star Trek characters mixed up. ;)

Up.  9.5/10.

I had to take SOME points off for having a weak villain and god damn talking dogs.  Plus for me it started to drag the second they made it into the wilderness...but the portion from the opening credits until he took off in his house was so breathtaking it more than made up for the rest of the film (which was in no way bad, just a little more generic than I would have liked).  Seriously the first half hour is one of the most emotional and incredible pieces of animation I have ever seen.

A triumph!

Rope

7 / 10

Enjoyable movie, but definitely a product of its time.  Not the most suspenseful Hitchcock movie.  Would have been better if they didn't show the actual murder in the first 10 seconds of the movie (to leave the audience guessing if the victim was in the box).
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Up 5/10
My 3 year old daughter hated it. It's a kid's movie made for old people. I know, it's a cartoon, but the explorer guy should have been dead for many years before they ever got to Paradise Falls.

The last movie I saw was "Anastasia" on Hulu, I forgot how much I loved this as a kid. I won't even say it's good for a family movie, it's good for any movie. The last movie I saw in theatres was "The Simpsons Movie" (I rarely ever go to a movie theatre).

Just saw The Boy With The Striped Pyjamas.

This is one of the more heart-wrenching movies I've seen in a while and defintely one of the most powerful. Showing the Holocaust from the perspective of a wide-eyed young German boy, who is as naive as can be about the situation he's thrust into. It gives the audience a very unique perspective that makes the ending all the more impossible to watch.

9/10

Up 8/10. A truly beautiful movie both visually and emotionally. It also had some great humor (I loved the talking dogs, the parody was great). Not as great as Wall-E but few movies, IMO, can even close to matching Wall-E.

It still amazes me how Pixar keeps their magic. Even their worse movies are quite good IMO, and have a HEART especially compared to about any other CGI animation. In many ways I feel really blessed to be living in a time where Pixar is still on top with classic after classic.
