Title: Half Price GameCube Games in Australia
Post by: Aussie Ben PGC on July 05, 2003, 08:55:14 PM
An excuse to start beefing up your GameCube library if there ever was one.

One of Australia's major electronics chains, Dick Smith Electronics, has been having trouble moving their stock of GameCube games.  And guess what, it's stocktake time at present.  So, to move their stock, they've taken 50% off all their games.  While you may think DSE only has boring third party titles for sale like The Adventures of Bland License Number Seven, Aussie gamers will be pleased to know that this includes games like:

  • Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (AU$49.42)
  • Resident Evil (AU$53.50)
  • Spider Man (AU$34)
  • The Hulk (AU$49.42)
  • TimeSplitters 2 (AU$59.42)
  • Super Mario Sunshine (AU$29)

While Super Mario Sunshine wasn't my favourite Mario title - $29 is just too good to pass up for the game.  Pick it up if you don't have it.  I picked up a copy of Eternal Darkness (there were six left after I bought my copy) for about $45, and I believe some places have Metroid Prime.

Dick Smith Electronics also has an online store, and I believe they accept international orders (don't quote me on that, though).  If this is the case, it'd also be a great time for Europeans to pick up some REALLY cheap games due to the Australian dollar's low value.

I really wish Nintendo would initiate these price slashes, and not leave it up to the individual retailer.

I mean, once Dick Smith have shifted their stock, that's it, folks. No more GC games for yet another retailer. So let's count this one together...

    No Harvey Norman

    No Dick Smith

    Major reductions at K-Mart

NOAus really need to pull their fingers out.

No, you don't wish you lived in Australia. Gamecube games are the most expensive console games here. Gamecube games are released MONTHS after the rest of the world, IF AT ALL (Animal Crossing anyone?) and half the stores don't even get enough copies in. For example, Burnout 2 released about a month ago. I went to or called all shops in my city looking for a copy, only to be told that most only had 4 or 5 copies to begin with, and they were not getting any more because it was discontinued. This was mere days after the release. Like Patch said, Nintendo really need to pull their fingers out if they want to sell anything in Australia.

skies of arcadia sold out in about 3 days, and NOPE! we arn't getting another shipment, and the inital shipment was like 1000 copies only (or there abouts)

so no, you dont want to live in australia

Yep, the state of GameCube in Australia is poo. Dick Smith used to be a big supporter of the GC, too. So did K-Mart, and when was the last time they EVER advertised a GC game?

Oh well, whatever. I picked up Luigi's Mansion for $25. Good enough.

this just in! i went over to the dicksmith's near me, and they arn't dropping support! from some clever detective work by me (which included waiting 20 minutes for them to work out if they were indeed having a sale or not, and a further 10 minutes while they got me a price list, which took them 2 goes to perfect) i read on the price list they gave me that they arn't dropping support, just not restocking various titles, mostly stinky launch titles.
