TalkBack / RE:Iwata Comments on Nintendo Next Generation
« on: January 13, 2004, 01:16:59 PM »
Ok, so I was reading through all the posts here when it hit me.  I don't know if this will be true/ holds any validity at all/ or what, but think with me.

They developed the reliable radio tech for the wavebird.  It runs off of AA bateries and last quite a while.  Why not up the power, stap it to the bottom of a console, and have radio (didn't this get mentioned earlier?) brodcasts link systems together.  I know a ton of people who would jump on this.  Many towers now days broadcast over miles of land, so why not your console?  Granted, it doesn't beat internet, and you don't get as many people in, but picture clans meeting weekly "on-broadcast" to play a round of Smash Bros.  I see it highly possible as they would also be able to control pricing of it, somthing they are striving to find for internet play.

Just an idea, regardless of whether or not it is the announcemnet.  Maybe for a later date or console.  Interesting idea none the less.

Actually, I did call Nintendo.  I have posted about this here before, but alas.  Honestly, I have never encountered customer services as rude as that.  It was really quite disturbing.  I have heard the glory stories, but no such luck for me.  Thank you for the tip though.

I first want to start out thanking all of you for doing this.  It really means a lot.  There are a ton of updates displaying obvious time spent.  Thank you for doing it.

I have one question though, what is the best deal any of you have found online for a Gamecube.  Mine stopped reading disks, outside of warranty, and I want to get a new one.  I've been out of the market for a while, but what is the best deal online right now?  I recall seeing one at Gamestop I believe for 70 dollars with Mario Sunshine.  Are there any more that compete with this?

In reply to hostile:

I beat Meta-Ridley with 3 health left.  I was a bit flustered when I realized I hadn't saved at all that day either *only several hours of playing on the line*.  I went into that fight, not full on heath, and scraped by.  By far the coolest fight ever.  It made the final boss a pushover after I had saved and charged up...

All right, you are all probably going to kill me, but I just got back *well, a few hours ago* from my 4th viewing.  I am wiped and done for this run.  Next November can't come soon enough.

I got a group of around 25 together to go to Portland OR to watch the midnight showing.  After sitting in line for 6 hours, I was treated to an awesome something something of a movie.  Dark, but fun.

I left it thinking I liked TTT more, but seeing as I already had 2 more tickets purchased, I would see it again anyway.  After getting less then 2 hours of sleep I headed off to my school where literaly, less than one dozen students didn't see the opening.  That day (Wednesday) at 3, just as school got out, the movie magic began again.  Better the second time when I had less sleep.  A little weird.

The next day I played a concert, and on Friday I went to an all night party.  I went again at 3 o' clock on Saturday, with even less sleep, but the movie got better.  I have never cried in a movie before, and I kept that reputation even after watching ROTK, the first time.  I don't know if it was because I was tired or what, but I did shed a tear my third viewing.  Very impressive.

As if that wasn't enough though, my friends were crazy enough to have a viewing of the trilogy today and they roped me in.  I can't complain; it was on the largest HDTV I have ever seen.  LOTR rocks.  I saw King again at 8 o' clock Sunday.

If you get the chance to see it, do.  You won't regret it.  Just try not sit next anybody if you can.  It has been out long enough that everybody wants to talk through it.  It can be pretty lame.

Foxtrot has some great comics this week too, if you get the chance.

SPOLIERS

OK, so I am keeping this vague, but when you see it a second time, during the reprise of a spider, just listen to the crowd.  One of the funniest things I have heard in a long time.  The gasps.  The wispers.  The thud.  You can really tell who has done their reading and who hasn't.

Now, now, now.  Lets not brag.  Remember, there are some of us who haven't even played it. *Rather, seen it in motion*

Yeah, if it was only Metroid Prime, I guess I could cope.  The problem is though, I can't load any game anymore.  Animal Crossing to F-Zero, none work.  I emailed them from the email address they gave on the site, and all they did was direct me to the site.  That worked.  I then called them number they offered and I got was mockery.  It really wasn't all that customer satisfactory.  "We have never extended a warranty.  Well, mabey a week or something."

I know that isn't true, and for the people who did have theirs extended, I was asking what exactly you did do.  For the dedication I have had (I still have my Virtual Boy for example) this really just feels like a slap in the face.

I am saying this now, I am one of the biggest Nintendo fans there is.  Don't be calling me a Nintendo hater/spammer because mine broke.  I have purchased every Nintendo system, convinced many others to do the same and this is the first I have seen of a machine not working.

Ok, so I bought a Gamecube on launch day.  It was Indigo and it worked perfect.  It glitched a little during Metroid Prime, but it was already past the one year warrenty period, so I ignored it.  I would take my Gamecube with me to parties and such, as I even have a bag designated for that purpose.  At one of the parties though I went to convert a PS2 fan *he had never even heard of Gamecube before then* and figured I would woo him with F-Zero, Metroid, and Soul Calibur 2.  All of which I had on hand.  The problem though was, I couldn't get a game to boot.  The G would spin and say that I don't have a disk in the drive.  It really made me and Nintendo look bad.

Here's the deal though.  I have been around here long enough to have read about Nintendo's awesome customer service, and I would really like to know the how abouts to contact them.  As I said earlier, my Gamecube is obviously past warrenty and I am a broke college student and can't afford even to get it repaired.  I would like to know, from those you who have done it before, how exactly you went about getting your warrenty extended.  Any numbers and names would be extremely helpful.  Thanks for your time.

From just the pictures (especially the ones on the Euopean site) it seems to be just overflowing with animation.  I don't care what the rest of the game looks like, that alone has me sold on it.  It just adds so much life to a game when they actually take the time to flesh it out.

If only I weren't so broke.  :-/

Nintendo could move to disks on their new system, and keep carts attached.  If they made a proprietary memory card in the same shape as the current carts, they could have both.  By shipping a disk with the game and an adapter with the handheld, then the disk could be put on the memory card without need to lug around the card.  By shipping only one large memory card, costs would be reduced.  More could be put on sale, but instead of paying for it EVERY time, just buy it once, and load the game you want to play.

Piracy could be a big issue, but this is Nintendo.  They have yet to be cracked in the console race, and I am sure they could do the same again.  Not like the GBA doesn't already have tons of pirates....

Metroid Prime 2: The return of Samus

Thats all I've got to say.  The name alone would make me buy the game.

There are some pretty good bands in my area.  One of my favorites currently is Saltbox.  You can listen to some of thier work over at hansv.com   Just go to the "Sounds" section.  They are all really crazy one-takes.  But if you can get the chance, listen to their Holiday special.  Pure genious.
