Wii U Sells 400,000 Last Week, Total Hardware 1.2 Million

Reggie says Wii U launch numbers are hindered only by supply.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/32615

In its launch week the Wii U sold over 400,000 units, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told CNET.

Fils-Aime went on to say that Wii U deliveries sell out as soon as the systems hit the shelves, with supply the only limit on how well the console is performing.

In total, Nintendo hardware sold over 1.2 million units last week. 300,000 of that number came from the Wii, 275,000 from the DS, and 250,000 units going to the 3DS. Fils-Aime credited the DS's numbers to Black Friday sales, but noted that the 3DS currently sits at 6 million units sold, one million more than the DS within the same timeframe.

Looks to me like the Wii U is doing very well indeed! And I am VERY happy about that because I LOVE THE NEW WII U!!! (P.S., for any who have the Wii U and like adding friends to it my online name for my Wii U is "KITT_10K". Please feel free to add me. You can never have too many friends.)

The DSi outsold the 3DS? There must have been some pretty good sales on it.

Was at Best Buy this evening and saw several of the Deluxe and Basic units on shelves. Perhaps there was more stock added.

I'm not sure how Nintendo is finding the machines to keep NA stocked with Wii Us, because just about every GameStop near me has at least a couple of the basic models and some have even had the Deluxes. You'd think they'd be hoarding them for the Japanese launch.

They were probably so worried about the U's demand being even half of the Wii's that they ramped up production like crazy. I've seen them in stock and out of stock this past week.

Microsoft sold like 750,000 this black friday I think, that's great considering new hardware just launched! I can't imagine more than 500,000 U's were available in the US.

MS is selling the 360 for $250, with a one year Xbox live membership. This seems good & all, until you realize that, there is minimal cost per user for Xbox live, & that if they do release the 720 in the end of 2013, your paying $250 for a system that will be outdated & quickly unsupported, when you could have waited 13-14 months & applied that $250 to a system that will probably cost double that, but will have the new Xbox titles & probably better graphics, & Microsoft's rip off of the Nintendo Pad controller. As the release of the 720 gets even closer & MS drops the price another $50 to get those last few holdouts, those who buy the 360 any time in 2013 will shoot themselves in the foot. If its true MS plans not to make the 720 backwards compatible, then buying a 360 at the cheaper prices makes some sort of since, but having to buy a soon to be out dated system simply to have access to the 360 game library is sure taking advantage of your customers. Of course, if MS fallows through with their plans to not allow users to play used games without first paying a use fee, or maybe not allowing used games at all, they may find sales of their 720 are much weaker than they expect.
