XSEED Not Localizing Pandora's Tower, Retro Game Challenge 2
« on: August 20, 2012, 03:05:59 PM »

They brought over The Last Story, but it looks like they're passing on the final Operation Rainfall title.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/31386

A localization of Pandora's Tower or Retro Game Challenge 2 is not in the cards at XSEED, according to members of the staff who answered questions on Kotaku last week.

Despite bringing The Last Story to North America last week, an XSEED representative plainly stated "I don't believe [Pandora's Tower] is in consideration right now."

Nintendo of America brought over Xenoblade Chronicles earlier this year, and currently, Pandora's Tower is the only Operation Rainfall game to not make it to North America.

Regarding Retro Game Challenge 2, an XSEED representative said "Sorry, man. That ship has sailed."

That comment goes in line with a prior comment, which stated that Retro Game Challenge was one of their biggest flops. At E3 2011, we asked XSEED about the possibility of breaking up the Retro Game Challenge sequel into DSiWare titles, and they said that the DSiWare file size was too restrictive to make it feasible.

Pandora's Tower was always a long shot given the relatively unremarkable developer. It's a shame as it looked like a cool action game.

Here's to hoping Retro Game Challenge 2 will be released on the 3DS eShop.

Well, looks like I better go ahead and order a PAL copy of Pandora's Tower, show them I want the game. Besides, it's already in English, and I like the nice black box anyway  ;)

And to answer the remark above me: yes, it is a cool action game. I already have it on my Wii's HDD.

Considering the problems XSEED seemed to have just getting The Last Story out in stores as well as the fact that you can still buy the Limited Edition of Pandora's Tower, this doesn't surprise me.  I always figured I'd have to import Pandora's Tower, but I just wanted official confirmation.  Now that I have it, I guess in the next month or so I'll have to once again go through the 2 month importation process I did for Xenoblade.

You know, with Nintendo embracing Digital Download now with NSMB 2 and they've said Wii U games will also be available online, I wonder if we could end up seeing more games like Pandora's Tower in North America on the Wii U.  Since putting games up online is much much cheaper then releasing them at retail, I wonder if NOA might start releases some of these more niche games online with the Wii U in the future, since it gives them an easy way to please the hardcore fans on the internet, without it costing them anything.

Since NOA has no problem bringing over Japan only games on the Virtual Console, it's not that hard to believe they'd bring over games from Europe that are already in English.  It kind of makes me wonder if Pandora's Tower and the Fatal Frame 2 remake could get a North American release thanks to the eshop in the future on the Wii U.

I think we'll probably get an indication of that when (if?) Nintendo releases the final hardware specs for the Wii U so we can see how big the HDD will be.  I'm not convinced that Nintendo's going to jump into digital downloads for retail games on Wii U like they have on 3DS.  Considering their random support for the Virtual Console (especially when it comes to niche titles), I wouldn't count on it.  It would be a nice gesture, though.

After the e3 no show, imported both this and Project Zero 2. Haven't had time to play either yet, but wanted to snag them before they got scarce. Ended up getting both for something like $90 total from Game.co.uk, so if you're Wii is equipped to play PAL games, it's not a bad way to go.

Still need to jump on Project Zero 2.  Guess that I'd better do it soon - don't want to miss out on that game.

Don't count on ever hearing the final hardware specs from Nintendo. I can't remember the last time Nintendo actually revealed console hardware specs to the public, and there's no reason to expect they'll be doing anything different for Wii U. Also, I'm pretty certain Nintendo already confirmed there would be no internal hard drive and all eShop software on Wii U will work the same way as 3DS via the SD card slot (but will also support devices via the USB slots), so there will be no memory limitation as long as the owner has a big enough device.

It makes me sad, though I'm not surprised.  It seemed the least likely to make it here.  I may import it if I see it for less than $40.  My hope is that it reached the Wii U eshop though.

I also felt this game had little chance. Though I'd never say no to having more good games to play, I feel we got the better games of the three.

Shame about RGC2. Maybe they can persue to eShop route if there's ever a third GCCX game.
