Man, I thought I couldn't keep up with all the VC releases before.  Lately it's just getting overwhelming.

Amazing how there are so many games to play while some have spent the past 5 years wondering where the Wii games were?

I guess it's true that, unlike fresh produce, good game experiences don't expire after 2 months ... as much as Activision and Capcom might wish us to think so =)

My remaining (unopened) backlog:
Mini-Ninjas
DBZ something something 3 (gift (does look great though))
Dragon Ball Origins

Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 298: How Many Licks Does It Take?

Another awesome episode, RFN crew.  I think you guys really nailed a lot of the justifications behind many of Nintendo's philosophies.  It reminded me of a famous phrase from the world of sports coaching: "if you listen too much to the fans, you'll end up sitting with them."  Nintendo makes the games and we play them.  I like that system just fine.

Also, I really loved all the history lessons on the gaming industry in this ep.  Somehow I had no idea Ultra was owned by Konami... but even back in the day I always felt the games made by each company shared a lot of ear marks!!

Keep up the great work. Can't wait for ep 300.  I assume it will begin with something about how this is not just madness, this is RFN... only with more yelling.

wow. cool. I'm surprised and glad that this seems to philosophically actually be "NSMB2." This is shaping up nicely.

Man, some of you guys are just too much.  Did you buy that Jump to Conclusions Mat from Office Space?  :)

P1: "I am not sure if I'm going to give you a new car."
U: "Why are you going to blow up my current car!?!!? AAAHHH!!"
P1: "... what?"

I'm gonna wait until we know 100% how these things are going to work before I get upset or excited about them.

Heck, even AFTER hardware is released these things change.  Remember when the Wii couldn't transfer to and from SD cards?

Also, Billy obviously needs to play more Kid Icarus: Uprising. It's pretty clear when people haven't played much of it. It's balls-to-the-wall insane and awesome.

Agreeeeeed!

@Insano

But is that really important? I mean, the idea of smartphone integration seems about as important as the shape of the hardware.  Sure, it might be nice, but is that ultimately what we're going to be griping about at the end of the day?

As for remakes...

@well, mostly everyone

I can't believe my (virtual) ears.  Doesn't everyone break out the pitchforks and torches when Nintendo remakes/releases old games?  Doesn't everyone get all pissy when any platform's launch line-up largely (and, in that case, sensibly) consists of remakes/ports?

Plus, unless the remake is truly lazy (which, granted, many are) that means resources are taken away from what would otherwise be a new game.

Recently a friend of mine was tickled pink that NiGHTS into Dreams was getting an HD remake.  Now, I looooove that franchise.  But, when I heard that news it was met with an overwhelming *yaaawn*.  I don't want SEGA to spend time making HD assets for a game that is still perfectly enjoyable on the flippin' Sega Saturn.

What I'm getting at is, I don't need the wheel re-invented (yay NSMBU/2!), but if given the choice between a new game and a remake... I'll take a new game every time.

Your opinions are all worthwhile and valid... I'm just very surprised to be hearing them!

Billy, my man, I respect you a lot. I really do.  But what happened this episode? You voiced some opinions that I never thought I would hear on such a quality podcast.  No offense, but, I strongly disagree with the following opinions of yours:

-smartphone cross-platforming would help games on Nintendo systems
-designing a car/ship/castle/RPG party at work and playing it at home is a valuable feature
-HD ports/"remakes" are exciting
-Kid Icarus Uprising is not (very obviously) top-notch voice acting
-someone wants gaming on a budget and you suggest the Vita? yyyyiiiiikes.  That console is not even simply "$150 more" when you factor in the memory sticks.  Especially since she said she wanted to do a lot of downloadable games.

Gui, great job.  Thanks for politely challenging a lot of Billy's opinions that I disagreed with.

James, good job hosting, sir.

Another great episode (what else is new?) !!

Just wanted to say that James and Gui are spot on about the DSi XL being the holy grail of handhelds.  I'm sure I have shared that opinion before... but it still hasn't become any less true.  I don't play DS games on my 3DS just so that I can still use my beautiful and comfortable and blissful DSi XL.

Can't wait for the 3DS XL............. even though I AM going to wait until more colors are available for NA.  *fingers crossed* for the all-white one JP is getting or one with this shade of green: http://i47.tinypic.com/qs2zuv.jpg

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Prepares for Life After Miyamoto
« on: July 04, 2012, 12:44:30 AM »
I think Miyamoto will be around for a while in some capacity or another. Even when he goes, I think Miyamoto's spirit is securely intact at Nintendo.

And even if Sakamoto ever leaves, they would have to reboot the franchise to change Samus' character - which I assume is the cause of the Sakamoto venom.

Glad you enjoyed the games so much, Neal!!

I wasn't able to download the Spiderman demo over the weekend as ran out space.  So I ordered a 16GB SD card from Newegg.com for $10.

What?? You mean you didn't have to pay Sony $70!? Incredible!

You're a Pokémon Warlord. Let that sink in for a second.

Great write up.

I interpreted this to mean the launch lineup merely doesn't have any games that use this.

Me too.

Of course, my personal take is that there just aren't that many games that will lend themselves to >1 tablet but I know a lot of folks on this board who feel otherwise!  And hey, at least now when that game comes along the Wii U will be able to support it and everyone can rejoice!

@koovaps

I have never, ever, ever used this gif before.... but Warren has earned it:

I wholeheartedly agree with every point.  I even put together my own piece on the violence aspect a few days ago which can be found here.

Now wait, it sounds like the title of the article is a little different than its content.

Is it that some Wii U launch games use 2 tablets but that the machine won't be able to support it until a future patch, or is it simply that Wii U launch games don't happen to be ones that tried to use 2 tablets?

Glad to see all the digital distributions getting love.  MMX2 is not to be ignored!

Now, I've never played Mad Dog McCree.  Which is amazing since it has been like mandatory issue on every platform ever made.  So, worth it? Awesomely good? Awesomely bad? Seriously bad?

I think it's a great idea to keep things under wraps to cut down on competitors stealing ideas in a timely manner.  I mean, come on, does anyone think SmartGlass was going to be a thing before the GamePad was revealed?

Kinect, Move, Avatars, ModNation Racers, LBP Karting, PS AS Battle Royale, etc ... everyone rips off everyone else, but no one gets copied like modern Nintendo.  Might be a good idea to play things close to the vest for a while.
