TalkBack / Re: Why I Like (And Despise) the Wii Integration on Wii U
« on: November 20, 2012, 11:44:19 PM »
While I hope we'll see updates to Wii mode in the future.  Don't bet on it.  I'd love to see it, but I don't see stingy Nintendo spending the money to do so.  They skimped so much already, I can't see them spending more than they absolutely have to.  Especially after bleeding so much money the last two years.

TalkBack / Re: Best of the Wii: Our Top 10 Third-Party Wii Games
« on: October 05, 2012, 02:37:33 PM »

I am kind of jealous of all the games I didn't have the chance to try this generation.  My hope is to buy more third party offerings in this next generation.    One of my favorite games from third parties this time around was The Williams Pinball collection.    If they could have dumped the interface and added online leader boards I think it would have deserved an honorable mention:)  Here is to hoping for Pinball Arcade and and a Zen studios pinball game on WiiU.

My hope is to pick up a lot of the 3rd party titles mentioned if I can find them.  As a bonus, many of them will most likely be a good deal cheaper.

Thanks for running the features, they've been fun to listen to.

I've never played a Kirby game longer than a few minutes.  I think I'd be willing to give all of those a run.

TalkBack / Re: Wii U Mass Effect 3 Runs in 720p
« on: September 01, 2012, 12:46:49 AM »

I wasn't meaning to so that negative.  I'm sure the games will look fine regardless of being in 1080P or not.  I'm sure there will be games that run at 1080P, but between trying to mirror games on a 480P LCD and a 1080P screen, and running ports of games to consoles that run at 720P scaled to 1080P we may see a lot of 720P games.  It's okay.:)

More important to me is the art and style anyway.  I wish for more RAM, but regardless, I am excited to see this new platform in action.  I just worry that the lack of RAM will come back and bite it once new consoles are released in 2013-14 and it makes ports more difficult.

Not really a surprise.

My guess is that you won't see a lot of 1080P on WiiU.
The system is low on memory 1.5GB is not nearly enough.
4GB or 8GB could have been done within reason.

For titles that don't use the low Rez game pad maybe.

TalkBack / Re: Unreal Engine 4 Can Run on Wii U
« on: July 20, 2012, 09:53:31 AM »
UE4 is pretty far beyond what you are going to be able to buy this November for a couple of hundred dollars.  Think 8-32GB of RAM.  Core i7 CPUs.  Graphics cards themselves that exceed the cost of the WiiU console.

Nintendo will be at least 5 years behind this curve when they launch.
A very stripped down ue4 version may be possible, but it seems like using a highly modified UE3 would make more sense.

Thanks again (to all of you) for keeping the podcast going after all these years.  I listen to quite a few podcasts and it's amazing how many of them have faded over the years.  Fortunately for us all, this one has not.   Your podcast has ranked consistently as one of my most liked podcasts over the years, and while things will never be quite the same, I'm sure things will be fine, just different.

Farewell Greg, enjoy your new found time.

Greg,

Many thanks for all the hard work over the last few years.  It's always been a pleasure to listen to.  Your depth of knowledge on gaming amazes me.

Based on the amount of time it takes to edit a show, no one person deserves to do that gig long term.  Hopefully this move gives you more time to enjoy more pleasant pursuits.

Very large shoes to full.  They'll be filled I am sure, just not quite in the same way.

Thanks again to you Greg, and to the rest of the crew.  It's a great show, and I am sure it will continue to be.

TalkBack / Re: Wii U Available Worldwide by End of 2012
« on: April 26, 2012, 11:21:34 PM »
I'd gladly pay a premium if they upped the controller touch screen quality and the hardware specs.  I already have a ps3/360.  I need something more powerful.

Waiting to see what the others offer I guess before committing to a price.

Maybe they can announce more titles that will come out in the EU and AU that won't be released in North America.

*cough* Dragonquest X *cough*

I wonder how many copies they have.  I bought both pilotwings and Steel diver from Best buy for 4.99 each online.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii Motion plus (issues)
« on: January 05, 2012, 11:52:46 PM »

Thanks for the suggestions.  I will give them a try before breaking down and purchasing a new controller to give that a try.  (The other day they only had pink remotes, they must of had an amazing Christmas:)

I'll try and report back what I find.

Take care!

Nintendo Gaming / Wii Motion plus (issues)
« on: January 05, 2012, 01:11:42 AM »

I was curious if I am the only one who has a lot of problems with Wii Motion plus. I've not played with it all that much til now.

I picked it up, with the Wii Sports Resort bundleback when it first debuted.  It seems like it worked okay then, to be honest I didn't use it all that much:)

Recently, I picked up Skyward Sword and the control really seems to be all over the place.  I find the cursor lags behind all the time, and I have to constantly re-orient the cursor (push down the d-pad).  I'm not just flailing around, but it seems like many times it doesn't matter which direction I hold up the remote, the sword just kind of points straight out.  When I try to swing it feels like luck when the sword actually does what I intend.  I realize that it's not going to be perfectly one to one, but the controls just feel plain bad.  My hope is that maybe I have a defective Wii Motion Plus or something.

Are there any known issues with non built in units being bad, or less effective?  I hear such praise for the sword controls, but I'm not seeing it.

I've really enjoyed the non-sword control parts so far, and it's nice for the story to be more engaging than that last Zelda game.  I'm in the first dungeon, but finding fights rather difficult.

Thoughts?

Enjoyed the cast, but okay I get it.  You guys don't like Kid Icarus.  I still love that game despite its reverse difficulty level. (gets significantly easier from beginning to end). It was way better than most NES Stuff out there. I had all three "adventure series" titles, and enjoyed each one for different reasons.  I may have liked it less than the other two, but I must politely disagree with the hate given this game.  It had RPG elements, enjoyable music, and because of it, I still hold a special place of hatred in my heart for eggplant.

Can't say I played enough this year to generate a top 5 list.   Wish I had picked up Radiant Historia when I had the chance.  Maybe they'll explore the possibility of downloadable full DS games to 3DS.
In the meantime I am going to attempt to work on a backlog of games I've bought but have yet to finish.

Thanks for another great year of podcasts, I appreciate the dedication.

TalkBack / Re: Staff Sez #4: Voices for the Legend of Zelda!
« on: December 15, 2011, 11:04:10 PM »

Maybe in the next few podcasts you can have the casts reenact a couple of scenes so we all know how badly all the dialog will need to be rewritten before they start putting voices to it:)

I would really love to see the whole series turned completely inside out.   Of course mostly, I'd just prefer new IP and new fresh stories. (with great gameplay of course).

Their club.nintendo.com website seems to be utterly unresponsive from this end ( and it has been for 2 days).  Am I the only one seeing this kind of behavior?

TalkBack / Re: Letter From The Director: Easy-Going Nintendo Fan
« on: May 23, 2011, 12:40:35 AM »

The last few episodes of Newscast have really started to grate on my ears, not because you guys are cutting Nintendo too much slack, but more because of the incessant negative tone of the show.  God knows that Nintendo has a lot they can be criticized for (and should get), but you might want to sit down and actually try and listen to one of your last few episodes.   It sounds like one of your hosts had to watch while Nintendo kicked their puppy.

What people fail to realize is that Nintendo employs only 4600 employees.  This is far too few to actively support both the Wii and DS with the amount of software people want (and ramp up for unannounced platforms) etc.

Blizzard employs a similar number of people and manages to put what 1-2 titles a year?

It certainly doesn't help that NCL is so Japan centric, and NOA pretty much has to smile and wave (and laugh) at what they say.

This end of cycle lack of games sure gets old.  It happens because nintendo just can't produce more content and work on new platforms at the same time.

Podcast Discussion / Re: RetroActive #12 Poll -- Game Boy Edition
« on: April 05, 2010, 10:11:42 AM »

I am going to try and participate this time depending on my ability to acquire said game.  I was kind of hoping for a Donkey Kong 94 option or Kid Icarus (gameboy) since I just picked them up.   Looks like I need to cast a vote.....I have never played Wario so maybe I'll go that route.

TalkBack / Re: EA Sports Active Blog: Day 3
« on: May 25, 2009, 12:13:08 PM »
Jonny,
I love the idea of your tracking EA Active on the website.  I can't wait to see what kind of results you get.

I've spent the last ten years prior to this mostly getting more and more sedentary.  I left high school at 190lbs, got married at 225lbs, and before I knew it I had hit 274 lbs (first Wii Fit weigh in).  When I really started using it on January 1st of 2009, I was at 270lbs.

I bought Wii Fit last year soon after it's launch and really never started using it much until the middle of January this year.  (Something about it nagging me about being "OBESE".  I began to use Wii Fit, completely changed my diet (Soda is gone from my diet, and I think I halved my meal portions), and started to use my stationary bike. (40-60 minutes a day all in all)  At this point, Wii fit is mostly a weight tracking peripheral, but I do use the exercises about once a week and still use the free run if I can't get outside or is too late at night.

So 5 months along, I am now 219 lbs, about 50 lighter than when I really started in earnest, and currently working towards the magic "NORMAL category (Might try for 185, but that will be rough:)

I've been thinking about trying EA active as well.  I'm kind of waiting to see what people think about it.  I hope you find success with it.

Nice podcast this week.  I remember some of the antics from various stories.  Thanks again for all the hard work (play):) It's hard to believe it's been 10 years, but then marriage and a kid tend to make one forgetful.

Thanks to all past and present members of the staff of the various iterations of the site.

I have not restarted playing this game, mostly because I've been able to find time to play it properly.  It needs to be played at night with the lights off, and the sound turned up.   It has the kind of scope that we don't get often enough.

I think mostly, what I enjoyed was that it was pretty damn original.  I'd love to see more and more twists like this on Adventure games.

I hope I actually get to sit down and play this again sometime this week.
