Title: Monster Hunter Generations Game Thread
Post by: Stratos on September 25, 2016, 01:33:31 PM
So I don't see anything here about this game and I finally dove into it. I remember some people here mentioning wanting to play so figured I would reach out and see if anyone was still game for some hunts.

Alternately, I am also down to go back and play either 3U or 4U since I have things yet-to-be completed there as well. Will hunt most anything.

In general if you see me online I will welcome the company. I default my password to 6464 unless I am playing in a different group.

I need to start this baby. My old 3DS XL that I had before I replaced it with a New 3DS XL got an issue where holding the Circle Pad and letting it go would make it continue to act like it was pressed forward. That happened around the time Generations came out.

I won't be able to pry myself away from Dragon Quest VII and SMT IV:A until I finish playing them, but I'm down to play this with some folks from NWR after that. I fought the flagship monsters just before I took a break from this game and I'm looking forward to getting started on their armour sets.

That should give me time to catch up to you then.

I just got to HR3 and am working on my first "real" set. I stalled on Maccao's armor and ended up throwing together a Loc Lac set for the kilt action and the Gathering bonus, since I need to begin to build up my horde of stuff for later endeavors.

First real set will be Mosgharl since it is the earliest set with Focus, and the fire attack + will be nice for when I get a Rath bow. Looks like I could gem in constitution easily as well since it gives points for that as well. It will be my go-to bow set for a good while I suspect.

Not sure what armors I want as few have really jumped up and grabbed me yet. The Rath Dreadwing is the only one that has done so, but we'll see what else comes up as I progress.

So you can mod out your C-Stick on the New 3DS. I've been having an unusually hard time with it in Gen so I'm going to give it a try. You just pop it off with a screwdriver and pop a PSP-1000 joystick cap on it and it reportedly works like a dream.

Already bought the cap on ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Cap-For-Sony-Playstation-PSP-1000-Analog-Joystick-Thumb-Button-Stick-/400829466455?hash=item5d534c4757:g:1j4AAOSwHnFVvHAe), I'll report back with how it turns out.

Sorry I'm late. I'm a cheapskate who knew this game would go on sale before the end of the year so I waited for that. I had other business to attend to.

I tried out Adept mode and it's just absolutely hilarious.

Also, the Arctic Ridge is becoming my favorite Tundra area in the series.

Now that my school quarter is complete I will be trying to return to some of my unfinished games. Despite my excitement for the Gen/XX upgrade coming in the Spring, I would like to at least get through the main story for Gen.

Anyone interested in some matches? Also open to going back to 3U/4U if someone has an itch for it.

I haven't played in a few months- around when the Animal Crossing update came out. I got pretty far through the game on my own, but I'd be happy to do it all again!

I picked this up the other day and I am HR 2 now and I am working through the HR2 village quests. I have a pretty basic set that has Attack up L and Gathering +1 because of the talisman. It is a mix of Bulldrome and Jaggi armor. Bulldrome cap, braces and Greaves with Jaggi Mail and Faulds with attack up gems in the slot. I am trying out the different styles and I do like all of them. I do like the Striker style for the SnS with some oil and I can go to town. Maybe hen I get up to HR 3 I can start playing with everyone again. Just so most of us are on an even playing field.

By "an even playing field," do you mean, "a soul-crushing grind that will only be usurped by the release of Monster Hunter Double Cross in the West?"

I am taking the day off, but will be spending the evening with a pair of friends. It is our birthday month so we are going out to Red Robin to get free birthday burgers. We are all married with kids (except no kids for me yet!) so I don't expect us to be out too late, so I'll reach out when I get back.

Yeah hopefully sometime this coming week. I did play with Mop it up and some of her friends and cleared a lot of the 2 star quests the other day.

So there is a website that I have been using to help figure out weapon trees and different armors and that is mhgen.kiranico.com and it has been really helpful. I have been trying to find an armor set maker for MHGen but haven't been able to so far.

That would be me. I am currently working through the 3 star village quests so I should have a bit more to work with.

On another note I have been looking up different armor set videos and there were a few that stood out for early in the game. One of the sets had these skills. Attack up S, Razor Sharp, and weakness exploit.   You have the Rathalos helm, mail, and faulds and the Cenatar braces and the Bhenabra boots with a 2 slot tali. If you only have a one slot tali then you can have a one slotted weapon and exchange the helm for the cap for that extra point in attack.

The other one had early Bludgener which from my understanding raises the attack of low sharpness weapons and is typically best uses with a green sharpness weapon to get the most out of it. The other skill was Razor Sharp so you keep that sharpness a bit longer.   Set is this. Konchu Helm S, Bhenabra suit or Cenatar mail, Bone Braces S, Bone Faulds S, and the Bhenabra Boots S.

So I made it up to the 4 star village quests and I do like I can take on Rathian, Nargacuga and Najarala offline because I needs some parts from all three. Thinking I am going to grab the Naja armor for the earplugs skill. Plus fighting Naja is fun in Aerial mode.

I won't have time until mid-June, when I am out of school. Several things are coming up there I need to focus on, but I'll be out June 16th.

So I made a new armor set last night after playing with Mop it up for a bit.  I made an Attack up small, Razor Sharp, and Weakness Exploit set. There is a few ways to do it but the base is this Rathalos helm, Mail and faulds, with Cenataur Braces and Bhenabra boots. Now the variation comes from what type of tali you have. You can have a 2 slot tali and then put in the appropriate decoration, an one slot in the weapon and tali with the Rathalos cap instead of helm or do what I did and have a 3 point attack charm at least. I did the 3 star hunter hub coal quest to mine for charms and it turned out nicely on my first try.

So in the event we do not get Double Cross in the west, is anyone interested in getting the Japanese Switch version with me and playing that?

Would be fun to go through it together and learn some Japanese in the process.

In the mean-time, I'm itching to get back into Gen, if anyone want to play this weekend.

I've just been going up the online and offline at nearly the same pace aside from being up 1 or 2 star quests in the offline vs the online.

I just really wanted to do a monster hunter game's single-player entirely on my own at least once (although I'll probably do it again next time because single player monster hunter is really satisfying (if there is a next time (#FuCapcom)))

If you do multiplayer then even if you don't let yourself use the weapons and armor you got from there you're still gonna know the maps better or you'll know how monsters behave or just be used to how the game works.

I'll probably do prowler mode for multiplayer. It seems like a good change of pace and it will be fun to see how many fun and exciting ways I can find to screw my teammates over with a purrfectly timed bomb thro- err I mean fun and exciting ways to help my teammates slay the meownsters.

I want to kill Gammoth so I can upgrade my Arctic Ledge and use it to just thrash the Nargacuga and finish It's armor so I can get Evade Extender (which is the best skill in the game, no questions asked.) but I really want to have evade extender against Gammoth because that's a fight where evade extender is a huge asset.

I really miss my endgame set from MH4U. That one is ridiculous.

A life honed Baraq Sedation on it's own is incredibly nifty (especially since the SA is probably the weapon that benefits the most from the whole roll to sharpen thing) but combined with the seregios set which is basically designed to make those weapons kind of ridiculous and evade extender and you have a ridiculously good setup.

Gammoth is walling me hard right now. My first attempt is what got me to go for the Nargacuga set for Evade Extender and my second attempt has proven my decision to do that was justified but Gammoth hits like a truck. I have a +6 health talisman so I might be able to ditch speed sharpening to gem in some health boosts and work my way from there. I also have some max potions I can use and that's probably the better option.

I'm not a fan of the Scissor Axe because it's sharpness is laughable at best but it has an open slot and better Raw damage than the Arctic Ledge (conveniently I need some Gammoth parts to actually upgrade the Arctic Ledge so it will match the Scissor Axe's considerable Raw damage output.

I kind of needed to get walled at some point. It makes things so much more interesting.

I haven't really fought the 4 flagship monsters in this game much aside from Astalos and Mizutsune. Gammoth I think I seen that monster a few times and just attack its feet.

But yeah I should be able to play tonight. Been a few weeks since I have  further up the ranks. Just been doing minor monster quests and various village quests.

My wife made a run to our place and got my 3DS...and grabbed my old 3DS pouch instead of the game case with Generations in it. She said she was making a run again this evening to check on our plants and would get the correct case, so if she did that I can play when I get home. If not I'll be out of luck again.

Absolutely not. I'm already feeling fatigued on this series, so a rehash of a rehash doesn't interest me in the slightest. I still have plenty left to do in the original version of MHGen and at the pace I'm going, MH5 will probably be here when I'm done.

I'm just so fed up with 3DS controls and size. Maybe I'm getting too old, but I want a full size controller with two sticks, and I want to see it on my TV screen, not a tiny screen.

It's gotten bad enough I am thinking of tearing my circle pad pro apart to mod a 2DS or 3DS to give me the controls I want. I can't even seem to enjoy 3DS games that don't need the second stick. I'm just ready for a handheld upgrade.
