Quick question regarding the Switch AC adaptor...
« on: February 27, 2017, 01:11:36 PM »
Yeah, yeah, I could probably google this, but I didn't. So here's what I want to know, does the Switch use a bespoke AC adaptor (a la DS/3DS/Wii U) when it's being used as a portable console or will any old thing with the right connector work? I only ask because an official adaptor retails for about £25 whereas I could probably get something similar on ebay for a quarter of the price.

I'm pretty sure it's using the USB Type C for charging.  So, you should be able to use any one of those cables.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If it is undocked  you can use a USB C adapter, but I think the dock has its own adapter, i'm not sure what type of connection the docks ac thing is

NWR has permission to use any tentative mockup/artwork I post

From what I remember of the documentation, the dock mode requires a larger than usual power source (15V/2.6A), but a standard USB-C charger should work for portable use or charging.  The included cable is USB-C and can plug into the dock or directly into the Switch.

Thanks for the help guys. Still not sure why Nintendo are charging £25 for something I just paid £2 for on ebay.

I've been doing a bunch of research and it sounda like it charges SUPER slow from default adapters. You might have a USB-C cable, but at normal power levels the likes of which almost all chargers use these days, I'm starting to think even plugged in the Switch will drain battery if in use with a run-of-the-mill charger.

I'm honestly not sure if ANY adapter exists out there right now which does what the Switch AC Adapter does.

I posted this in the main Switch topic, I didnt see this one. I was thinking about just using phone charger as a secondary switch charger, but it only does 5V. Switch charger does 15V too, somIm going to buy that, even though it is expensive

Yeah, I'm gonna buy and try a specific battery pack after some research. I'll definitely post here if I can determine whether or not that battery pack was able to charge it at full speed

I have this portable charger. It works just fine with my USB-C phone, so I assume it will work with the Switch too.
