"Hello all! I'm Mayor Khushrenada and welcome to Shady Village located here in Hidden Valley. Unfortunately, some of you may know this place by its infamous nickname of Mafia Town.

I'm not sure if you are aware of the history of our little community so I'll briefly outline it for you. For quite few decades, our humble village become widely known as an agriculture gem thanks to the wonderful weather that occurred here year after year with abundant sunshine and plentiful rain. Local tradition believed that we were blessed by the Harvest Goddess and it was her power that ensured such a fine climate for us.

Sadly, many years ago, some nefarious individuals moved into this community with the goal of acquiring the Goddess's power for themselves. They disrupted the lives of many people here and our agricultural production as they sought to take control of this land. The disharmony they created seems to have had an effect on the Goddess and our weather as conditions can change suddenly from scorching heat in the morning to snow falling in the evening making it quite hard to grow anything.

The poor turnout of crops and livestock from the disastrous had an effect on the local economy with many having to move away including the villainous elements that no longer saw a profitable reason to stick around. Thankfully, things seemed to have started turning around for Shady Village. With things becoming peaceful again for the few who remained, the weather also seems to have begun mellowing out and returning to its former helpful ways.

Seeing so many more new faces moving into start a new life and make their mark with a farm or business of their own makes me feel the future of Shady Village is looking very bright indeed. With more wonderful people like you around then hopefully we can restore this community and shake off that ugly moniker of Mafia Town. Welcome to the 87th NWR Mafia Game. Your continued participation has helped us keep this forum tradition going for 15+ years!

Voting Time: For Day 1, the Day Thread will be open for a maximum of just about 50 hours. Voting will end and the thread will close at Midnight EST Nov. 19 aka 9:00 PM PST Nov. 18 aka Noon Perth Time Nov. 19. However, the thread and Day could end earlier if a Majority Vote is reached.

Majority Vote: There are currently 16 players still alive in this game meaning 9 votes would be needed to achieve a Majority Vote.

Contact From or Contacting The Host: If you want to contact me via private messages on the forum or through Discord and the NWR Server, I will be doing my best to keep checking both places and be available to you through the medium you prefer. As well, if you would prefer I contact you either here or on Discord then let me know and I'll try to make that my primary way to communicate to you for when I need to reach you on a matter.

While it is not necessary, if player's wish to include me in the messages they send to other player's, I am always grateful for that as it allows me to see how people approach the game and the rules and roles in place for it which is useful feedback for hosting future games and what to possible tweak or leave alone.

Voting Requirement: There is no voting requirement for this game. No one will be automatically eliminated if they haven't voted for so many days. I leave it to the players to decide if they will let other users stay under the radar with little voting activity.

Role-Playing: Feel free to roleplay from all manner of farming sims like Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons. Or perhaps you may want to go with any kind of farm type character in video games like Malon of the Lon Lon Ranch. Or skip the video games and go with any kind of famous type of farmer in pop culture media like Old McDonald or the couple in the painting American Gothic. The sky's the limit with what you may want to incorporate. Heck, you might just want to ignore the theme and do your own thing. Insanolord once hosted a Soccer-themed Mafia game and I just ignored that and did a NewsRadio roleplay instead. There is no rule about role-playing so don't worry about it nor do you have to even bother with it if you don't care about it. It's just something that can add some extra fun to the game and sometimes even inspires the host as they try to write up the unfolding story of the game.

Becoming An Eligible Bachelor/ette For Jamie: After the Announcements Post, I will make a post listing all the goods available for selection still in the game. I will be updating that post throughout the voting period so you can check that spot to see what is still available.

I think that about covers the necessary introductory game details. I suppose I'll just highlight quickly that players may want to check the Townie Vigilante role as I've given that a bit of a twist from past games. Otherwise, take some time to read up on the Jamie role when you can as that endeavor is what will give this game a boost of Harvest Moon energy. On that note, here is today's Harvest Moon Musical Selection: Breeze - Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life.

Goods For Your Farm

I'm afraid this old forum software doesn't allow for tables anymore so I'm just going to have to keep posting images of an Excel Spreadsheet for this which isn't too exciting I'm afraid. Hard to make that sexy. But it's the most functional way to do this I suppose.

I'll just have to take new snapshots from time to time and edit the image here. As well, I have given a neutral third party a list of the 5 items that appeal to Jamie and 4 items that can bribe Khushrenada to verify that these have been pre-selected and not just chosen on a whim to make things more exciting for this game. In case anyone were to have doubts about trusting me. But what has that ever happened in a Mafia game

Howdy, folks. My name is farmer John (first name Farmer, last name John), and I moved to a 300 acre farm about 10 miles out from Hidden Valley. Out here we rotate crop between corn & soybean, and have a small assortment of cows & hogs.

This year despite the early cold snap, we got a pretty bountiful corn harvest. Lots of it will go toward ethanol production, which lucky for us remains lucrative with the corn subsidies Hidden Valley offers.

When's the county fair here? My wife's makes a mean apple pie, and we'd love to find the local orchard to start pickin.

I know I started the no vote bandwagon in the game last time because I wasn't sure. But I don't see no voting as a thing in this game. The rules are always different in these things. I hate it when in some games if you don't vote then you get eliminated.

I should have voted out Mop_it_up in the last game given the ultimate results.

But, Considering how early I got eliminated in the last game I don't like the idea of voting out seasoned players on the first day over some crazy tradition. Since, the first day really doesn't matter I'm going to join Mop_it_up and un Vote Masb

Yes, I do understand the complaint of how rules can change between games. When I was writing up the roles, I figured I better be specific and mention that the Detective cannot save or stack up investigations. Normally that's always been the case but the last two games I did I offered that wrinkle. Now for this game, I felt like I had to clarify that point in case it gets asked. Since the goal was to make this game closer to an earlier and simpler game of Mafia, I decided to leave out the No Vote rule as just a way of further "uncomplicating" things. Yet, I may bring it back for the next game.

I suppose I'm just always tinkering away and trying to include options that I feel players would appreciate. That's why I've pretty much stopped including the voting requirement for a game. The purpose was to cut out some dead weight if players weren't showing up as that could often help the Mafia achieve an easy victory. As annoying as it can be to have absent players, I've come around to the belief that it is up to the player's to put pressure on those staying inactive or eliminating that inactive player themselves. A voting requirement is something I don't think I'll be bringing back but I still mention that there isn't one in my Announcement post for Day 1 when starting the game just to make it clear.

So I read the rules for this game a couple times and I still don't feel like I have any idea what's going on, which seems fun. I guess I'll pick oranges and the boot from the big list if I understand the rules for that correctly.

As for the vote, I always hate the first day. Seems like Mop it up is getting the focus but I don't know if I want to jump on that just yet. Anyone else have any theories?

I wish I knew everything that was going on. This is a pretty convoluted game and I've been distracted by other things the last few days, so my confusion here is genuine. I probably just should have gone full troll like Khush did with my MLS game when he started spamming NewsRadio gifs.

As convoluted as I may make a game seem by trying to get ahead of things and cover all scenarios, I also can break it down to make it simple to understand. So let's break it down in into 4 things.

First of all, this game is currently just a game of Townies vs Mafia. There is no third force like a Killer right now. A Killer could join later but right now it is simply about trying to vote out the Mafia while the Mafia is trying to make the Townies sabotage themselves. Simple and the basis of most games.

Second, I believe you should also be able to see that (ignoring the Jamie role right now) the roles are pretty simple and the usual for a lot of games. The only special ability the Mafia has is their hit, the detective can investigate one player per day and the doctor can protect someone at night. The only traditional role I've tweaked is that the Vigilante no longer dies if they make a hit on a Townie instead of a Mafia member like past games. Instead, the Vigilante loses their Townie status and becomes a Killer. If that happens, then they are just the traditional Killer role with the ability to make a hit each night.

I hope all of that makes sense to you and isn't causing any questions.

The confusing part is likely the Jamie role. I'll break that down now in a couple parts.

First, the Jamie role is similar to some other past roles like a "brother/sister" role in which two townies know each other's identities and can work with each other in the game but also have the drawback that both are eliminated if one gets taken out of the game. The difference here is that the brother/sister aren't partnered at the start of the game. Instead the two players become partnered later on in the game. Because Jamie can partner with another player later, that other player may or may not have a role. I've listed the benefits of what each partnership can be but, for the most part, you can just ignore all of that. The only thing that should be of interest is looking up what would happen if Jamie partners with you (and the role you have this game) to see what benefit that would bring both of you. When the partnership happens, I will mention which role Jamie has ended up partnering with so that all players are aware and you could then check the list to see that specific partnership's details as well. Right now Jamie is on the townie side but that could change depending on the partnership that gets made later (if a partnership even happens).

I hope that is clear and easy to understand.

That just leaves explaining about how Jamie and another player can partner with one another. That's where the "Goods For Your Farm" list comes in. It's basically just a lottery like trying to find the Golden Ticket in Wonka bars. There's 146 bars and only 5 of them are winners. There are restrictions to keep one player from just selecting all the bars and giving everyone a chance but even if you don't understand the restrictions, I'll be reminding players of when they can choose from the list and how much. That's all this choosing is. You are just trying to find a winning choice to gain the Jamie partnership. If a player does get a "golden ticket" then I'll contact them in a private message about how the rest of the process works. Other than that, these "items" do nothing and mean nothing unless a player wants to use their selection for some future roleplay purposes.

Again, I hope that makes understanding the game clear to you and help you as the game progresses. If there's more clarification or some question for a detail that is still unclear to you then just ask here or send me a message. I want every player to comprehend what is happening in the game so that they can play at their best and with confidence instead of being frustrated or confused about what is going on causing them to participate less or halfheartedly.

Other than that, these "items" do nothing and mean nothing unless a player wants to use their selection for some future roleplay purposes.

Did you know it is great for pollination and depending on the type it can do that through the wind while other types of lilies can be polinated by bees. So pretty.

Yes, you can. Selection isn't determined by when a player last selects an item. It is determined by being in a 12 hour division of the day. Ooof. Save data loss is terrible. Even now, I'm still upset about a few saves files I lost for some games. So, I do feel bad and sympathize with how defeating and deflating that can be. I must say that as mayor I can't believe the complaints I've been hearing about sweet little old Mop it up by others in our community! Mop it up has been a long time sterling citizen of Shady Village and true boon to the people here. I've known her for many years and it is inconceivable that she would be capable of committing some of the nasty things I've been hearing like rudely pushing people to the ground to hoard flower seeds for herself or mooning people! Why it is almost laughable due to how absolutely absurd such allegations sound with all the kindness and love that she has shown in our village for so long . Maybe that's what started it. It was supposed to some kind of joke and got twisted around a bit like that kids game Telephone. People make it sound like she is going around trying to pick a fight with everyone and being very crotchety and ornery. You think she was an angry old lady walking around and flipping the bird to everyone based on the talk I've been hearing. What malarkey!
