People are mean and we have features on the hardware and software side to limit your interaction with other people if you wish to avoid them. But we rather just not bother with that and remove them all together. Way to go Nintendo!

I actually think the real reason for Nintendo not allowing voice chat for this game goes even farther then what they're publicly saying.  This is a company that's extremely paranoid and always thinking of the worst that can happen and in the case of Splatoon, a lot could technically happen.  There's already a ton of porn involving the characters in this game which is pretty normal for the internet, except in this case the game involves preteen characters.  In other words, it's already attracting a lot of pedophiles and I'm sure Nintendo knows it will especially among the loli loving otakus.  Hell, they're even pandering to that crowd by offering a Japanese schoolgirl outfit for the characters which is the number one jerkoff material for these people.

Because this game is aimed at all ages, you'll have a lot of kids playing it.  This is why we got Swapnote removed because of offensive content being shared, so it only a matter of time before Nintendo feels pedo's start hitting on kids using the voice chat.  Once that happens, the **** storm will begin with national headlines reading "Nintendo desperate for money has reached out to a new sick audience for financial support".  Now suddenly parents feel Nintendo is putting their children in danger by allowing them to interact with predators online and stop buying Nintendo games.  Before you know it the FBI is raiding NOA headquarters and Reggie is looking at 99 years in prison.

Now I'm not saying this would happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if Iwata and the rest of the managment at NCL has already thought of this possibility while they wear tinfoil hats so their minds can't be read.  Or so they thought. :-X

Thinking about it, it does seem a bit odd that they would add voice chat in Mario Kart and Smash Bros but not this one. And Animal Crossing has had it in the past. I don't really see enough difference in this game to warrant excluding it here.

That german Phoenix Wright person on google + is quite literally the exact same person who posted the "leak" for the April 1st direct. You know the one with Star Fox Horizons and Paper Mario U.
https://plus.google.com/107676607280980751737/posts/Ryqfqr9PZxt
And then later admitted to faking it "That was my goal for the leak; as credible as possible. That is not a paper with bold heading internal use only and not the 1000th leak for Metroid WiiU"

Being fake aside I would buy Splatoon without question if it came with a free game.

I want to see more local multiplayer modes outside of the balloon-bursting one. I also want to see options that will make the online community thrive, such as party systems or communities.

And the Direct is over! All in all, I was pleased.

Friend-only matchmaking options are coming....in an August update.

We're getting an online beta! Limited to three 1-hour periods Friday and Saturday only.

Please understand.

At least there will be free updates. Though, I have my suspicions that the content of the free updates are already on the disc and we will be waiting for it to unlock. I was honestly scared for a moment there that there would only be five maps and any more would be premium DLC. As for having to wait until August to get something that is standard issue with any other game, I think it is obvious that all these "free updates" is a ploy against used game sales.

Also, they didn't use the term beta! Don't misrepresent them. I don't doubt it is some sort of server stress test though.

Fine. It's a "global testfire" demo. That's totally not a beta.

I'm glad Nintendo isn't going with a season pass or premium DLC route. I am going to give Nintendo crap for shipping an online-focused multiplayer game without friend-only matchmaking options. That's not something you just pack in a future update. That should be in the game day 1.

Also, this commercial is the greatest thing ever. It's like something I would see constantly on Nickelodeon in the 90s.

Doesn't sound like Nintendo's shipping a complete game which most likely kill the review scores.  5 maps for a $60 game?  Also both Europeans and Japanese are selling the game at a reduced price while still no word about the NA market?

Plants vs Zombies 2 Garden Warfare shipped with small number of maps and had free DLC content added later but it shipped at a starting price of $40 though.

Pretty excited.

I am very impressed at variety of weapons. Some of them even have alternate fire -- a new unexplored frontier for console shooters. Chargeable weapons are also very interesting. I will welcome everything to tries to bring more depth to the stale swamp of third/first person shooters genre.

Turrets, enemy tagging and other features it look good.

Amiibo locked content is disappointing, but it seems like the most i will be missing is some costumes and loading mini-game. I can live without costumes but i do want those loading mini-games...

Announcement that new levels will be free DLC is a good sign. Hopefully it will stay that way -- i generally avoid any paid DLC-ridden game (until GOTY edition at least) and announcement of paid DLC before game even launches makes me not to play the game altogether.

Too bad that buy-one-get-one rumor turned out to be bullshit. I was planning on skipping this game, but would have bitten if it would turn into effectively a $30 Splatoon and a $30 Hyrule Warriors. I was also going to skip Bayonetta 2, but the inclusion of the first game pushed me off the fence.
